So, the only way I can formulate a death that would not leave me bummed out would be losing in a battle to the death with a Sasquatch. I figure that I would have a katana to even the odds. In that case, I figure something like this would be appropriate.

If I die a glorious death in battle, or die in some other cool way, then King of Kings, by Manowar:

And, if I die an uncool death, the "Stupid deaths" song from Horrible Histories:

Only three possible options, and that covers Prong, The Haunted, and Amon Amarth. Sort of depends on what the death scene is going to be like...at the minute I'd have to go for the viking metal.

I think I would prefer something both melancholic and bombastic... a track that goes well with the 'heroic last stand' motif.

The first three minutes are devoted to a badass final monologue, probably addressing the last few survivors under my command, and then it's off to a short and awesome blaze of violence through the enemy ranks before being stopped dead in my tracks by a blade or enemy fire.

I just had a similar discussion with friends.
I am unsure how other people would take these, especially REM, but Stratovarius has a conforming note to it.

Nothing like spending your dying breaths fighting with every last bit of strength you have against an overwhelming force.

Solemn as fuck, me.

Joy Division's music was practically made for this kind of situation.

If I would have a choice of how I die that would be the most epic way possible, and no other song fits better.

It's one of my favourite songs so I think I would have to go with this, though a bit depressing, but the lyrics are fantastic for a death scene

or
If it was a "going out with a bang kinda death

Props for originality on the topic, I hadn't thought about what song should be playing during my death scene. Here it is:

The instrumental ending of Eric Clapton's "Leila". Always seemed like "end of the world" music to me.

My death would be too quick and sudden, mixed in with a massive action sequence, the death itself only taking up a few seconds of screen time, maybe 5 if I get a slow motion camera with a nice angle on my craft breaking up/bullet going through me.

My song would play either during the aftermath, or during a montage of other's memories of me. Possibly while a friend plots revenge. But Its not worth it! I gave my life in the noble line of duty!

This one still gets me every time I hear it, so I expect to hear it before I "go".
(If you haven't beat Infamous 2, don't you dare click it.)

However I'm about to die, the 1st movement of Shostakovich's 12th is the only thing I would want to hear.

Either that or Champagne Supernova by Oasis.

No matter how dramatic/ heroic/ anticlimactic my death would be, these two pieces of music easily make it worth watching.

EDIT- Hell, I would want to hear the whole thing. The 1st movement's great, but the whole symphony is wonderful. I would want to be sat in a luxury leather chair, wearing a silk shirt and a fitted suit, a pair of comfortable (not necessarily fashionable) shoes, listening to it in a swanky study with a map on the main wall, a big window, bookshelves, a touch screen desk for a computer and the smell of jasmine on the air, in a Victorian mansion in the middle of my nefarious plan for world domination falling apart, my organisation of doom in tatters, knowing that I have moments left until the heroes come to bring me to justice. I would Just chill out and drink a glass of Irn Bru, eat some fine chocolate truffles, and wait for the inevitable while listening to it. And when the heroes finally kill/ scare off all of my henchmen, and kick the door to my office in, I would push the self destruct button for my layer before giving them time to realise what I was about to do, and then smile at them as everything explodes.

(your question really sparked off my imagination there...)
