I would like a pet wolf, as long as it didn't eat me. I don't really appreciate being eaten. I don't think it's a nice way to go at all. I reckon a bird would be pretty awesome too - anything from a wren to a hawk, any kind of bird. I like things that fly. As long as it came back. And now I feel guilty about wanting a 'wild' animal as a pet because they probably would enjoy it more not being my pet.

I think it would be cool to have a pet platypus, although I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to since they're classified as endangered.

Or possibly a pangolin

They look so cool.
Yes on both accounts, though I feel I would treat that pangolin more like a pokemon than a pet. For me I would love a fully trained really smart Hawk. Imagine just pointing at something and you see a hawk dive out of the sky and snatch it up for you. Would be epic, plus I can say "the hawk for you!"

Another animal I would like is a panda who always sits in an upright position and has to roll to get around, just imagine that in your head.

To be honest, I'd just like my two gerbils to live forever. They're absolutely adorable and I know half their life is already up. It crushes my heart when I think about it.

How could you not want one?
I must amend my list to include a red panda. And a regular one too. I have always had a soft spot for pandas.

This

I would ride on it and feed it and call him flompy and love him
or a tiger/lion something if dead animals can't be chosen either.

I have Laser Cat in the other room somewhere. Green eyes, black fur.

Basically that, but a kitten.

EDIT: Oh god, someone brought up a gecko. That's my new choice.

A Dragon, and I place the burden of proof at your feet. And if proof of their nonexistence is ever found, then I'd like the Elephant please..

For the wife, I'd say a ferret. She had one as a child, and she'd love to have one again.

For myself, I'd love to have a bernese mountain dog. They're perfect with kids... fluffy and lovable, and have the patience normally reserved for saints and stonework. Sadly we live in Florida (and just puchased a house, so leaving in less than 10 years is completely impossible, barring unforseen and unvoidable circumstances), so I could never, in good conscience, sentence such a thick-furred animal to this environment.
It's not inhumane to shave a long haired dog that you love so that they can comfortably live in a loving household that happens to be in a warm/stifling/rediculously hot climate.

My friend had a long haired dog that they shaved in Port Douglas, QLD. (Australia. Regularly have 30C weather with like 70% humidity. Lowest temperature I've heard of was like 16C)

Edit: 30C = 86F and 16C = 60.8F

Doesn't that look lovely? Hmmm... Might be tasty, too...
Apparently they taste terrible. My girlfriend's mum ate it in Asia somewhere and sent it back saying it was terrible... after finding someone who could speak with her proficiently she found out that she wasn't eating fish. She got pretty grossed out and left.

I would have to have a Cheetah. ^^ They're my favorite big-cat. even moreso than tigers, and everyone loves tigers.

But yeah, I'd love an awesome loyal cheetah ^^

Well, I've been feeding the squirrels on campus for a while now...
Everyone hates you.

Part of me wants to give a unique and entertaining answer, but then I worry that God might be drunk and reading these forums, and I don't want to end up with some retarded pet. So: wolf.

I'm a dog person, so I'll go with a wolf, preferably one that behaved like a dog (in the 'doesn't eat me' way).
