Magikarp is actually secretly the strongest pokemon there is. You just need a good support team.

I found having a Blissey on your team is WAY cost effective in the later games when the Elite 4 is difficult. Rather than reviving and healing the whole team, you just use Blissey to heal your team and then heal Blissey with a single max potion.

Um... I forgot my Diamond Team. I'm thinking it was:

Medicham, Torterra, Gyarados, Blissey (of course), Lucario, and Alakazam(?) I can't remember what the last one was. If Alakazam, then maybe it wasn't Medicham... hell if I remember.

I don't like having six pokemon, especially in Gold, because with the super-weak wild pokemon and the lack of a vs seeker, it is too much hassle to keep six pokemon up to scratch. So yeah, when I last beat heartgold I had

Nidoking (lvl 50?-ish)
Kangaskhan (lvl 52-ish, I used it for outrage against lance)
Ho-oh (lvl 50-ish)

I also had Red gyarados as a hm slave and to absorb damage while I heal ... and I think that was it ... yup.

This time 'round, I'm using stone evolutions, so I have growlithe, gloom, poliwag and nidoran female at present, and have to decide between bellossom and vileplume (leaning towards vileplume)

I've loved my Alakazam, ever since I figured that if he used Hyper Beam, he pretty much dominates.
