I do hate it when they say that. If your faith in humanity is so easily tarnished then I have lost my faith in humanity (geddit?)

I will say this: I think it is something people grow out of. Yes, the world may be cruel, but there is always hope.

Look, people get BORED, okay? I come to the Escapist specifically to use up time when I haven't got much else going on. I don't bother with the faith/no-faith thing with people, but I do not care HOW MANY zombie threads we have on here. I'M FROM PITTSBURGH, DAMMIT!
Just because you are bored doesn't mean you have to settle for mediocrity.
*Looks around, then shrugs*

Jack don't see no mediocrity. Jack sees a put-off woodland creature.

My faith in humanity is just fine, thank you very much. And those people that keep saying theirs isn't should really shut up. Come back after you finish high school and see if you still feel that way.

And I had the faith that I could say what I want (that doesn't defy forum rules) without someone complaining.

I have faith that people can stop making threads complaining about specific things that to them sound stupid.

Of course I have faith in humanity. We went to the moon. We sequenced the human genome. We harnessed the powers of electricity and radioactivity. We went from cave dwelling morons to a species that can understand the process of nuclear fusion that occurs in a star which eventually converts hydrogen to the higher elements that we are composed of. We went from "Rock-smash-on-head-steal-food" to "we are made of remnants of a star itself".

And of course, my faith in humanity will never erode, because I am a human. I am part of humanity. I think of myself as a good, somewhat kind, reasonably intelligent person. If I can be, so can others. I am not so arrogant to assume that I am the only good person on the planet.

Only someone with no self-esteem and no good qualities could ever completely lose faith in humanity. Only someone who can see no good in themselves could then declare that humanity has no good in it.

I have faith in humanity, in fact I have great faith in humanity, or at least I try very hard too. I will indeed cop to being a Rousseau man over Hobbes. True humanity has done some bad, even terrible things, but look at what we've accomplished, the things we've created, the art, the technology, all of it, it's amazing! We stand at the cusp, the epoch of a new era, an era where we might finally traverse the deepest depths of the oceans and the farthest reaches of the stars, an era where we might, at long last, bring some much needed wonder back to the world.

HURRR DURRR u jus dont unnerstant my pane.

But seriously, the same crap will keep coming around over and over, regardless of your wishes or anybody else's. It's like with trolls, feeding them only makes them stronger. The absolute worst thing you can do to somebody who starts a thread you don't like is don't click on it.

I'm torn on the issue of man's value as a species. On the one hand, we make bacon and hot showers. On the other hand, we're so into making things worse for ourselves, it's hard to believe we're still around.

Wow, reading that was inspiring. I salute you, good sir or madam.

I feel basically the same way. When I stop and take a moment to appreciate how far humanity has come over the course of its history, it's hard for me not to feel optimistic. From simple-minded primates only concerned with food and shelter to sending spacecraft to the moon and beyond, our species has truly achieved many wondrous accomplishments. There are so many things we take for granted nowadays that would be simply impossible for our prehistoric counterparts to even begin to comprehend. We form lasting bonds with friends and family that can last for a lifetime. We strive to do more than simply survive: we grow, we cultivate, we create, we invent, we explore. Through this we have made amazing advances that no other species on this planet can hope to match.

I for one am proud to be a human being, and nothing will ever change that.

HA, hahaha faith in humanity? The genetic repression I see on a daily basis at my game store is enough proof to me that the human race deserves to be the target of some planet wide genocide. Yes I realize this includes myself, but hey hopefully there's nothing but void after deat and I wont have to put up with people.

Its just a fad phrase from the misanthropic teenagers of the gaming community, they'll grow out of it. The over 20s who still don't see any good in the world though, well I pity them.

and yeah I agree theres a lot of bullshit pointless threads here, again, started by the teens. I just ignore it and post in threads that interest me. The maturity level isnt very high here, as much as they like to say it is; mostly due to the age groups, thats just something we have to deal with or go to a different forum.
You don't make any difference between misanthropy, an ancient philosophy, and modern teenager skepticism. Two very different things. I mean, just because some users here like to end hteir posts with the zero faith in humanity phrase doesn't mean they have a well thought-out moral or philosophical position. It just means that someone saw a phrase somewhere they thought sounded cool and want to repeat. Neither should it been seen as misanthropy.

i think the more crap there is around the more likely there is to be great things hidden with in it.
for example; china has a billion people they also occupy the very top 5 spots on the global rankings, coincidence? problem.

Do I count? I wont really be over 20 (21) until august. If by then I suddenly become optimistic, am I saved from your pity?

I dont actually care if you pity me, I just want to know for curiosity sake.

(Im one of those people who dont see any good in the world. I assume you guessed that, but my assumptions have been wrong enough before to include disclaimers more)
There are exits in every gun store, high ledges and buildings and nooses you can make. Not seeing any good in the world you may as well take them, seeing little good in the world is fine.

To be frank, they only act like that to get attention so it's always best to just try to ignore them and move on, or if you enjoy it, which it seems many people do, chuck them an insult as to their maturity and continue on your marry way. Either they'll snap out of it or not, and if not, hopefully they'll learn that not everyone cares that they're blind and deaf.

(Edit: Hah. Exists)
