My dad says that my great great great (etc.) uncle was Jefferson Davis. You think I would say "I'm not particularly proud of that..." but I actually kind of am. The Confederacy really wasn't as bad as people paint it out to be these days, and I wouldn't mind having a Rebel Flag in my house one day.

No one famous in particular although there is long history of drunks on my dad's side of the family and apparently my great-grandfather was hit by a train. I am very proud of my prestigious heritage.

Not quite so famous, but my great uncle, John Julian, was next in line to shoot Abraham Lincoln.

Sir Frederick Banting (one of the blokes who helped to develop Insulin) was my paternal grandmother's second cousin.

Also, it's just a family rumour, but my Dad's side of the family (paternal grandfather's side in particular) MAY have descended from an illegitimate child of King Charles II. No proof since I doubt his/her parentage would be in the official records if it's true.

An artist who painted a scene of the U.S. Civil War. Not sure who he is though.

And, while not famous, one of my ancestors was captured by Napoleon Bonaparte as a prisoner of war and forced to fight for him. If there are any descendants of Napoleon out there, I demand an apology! (jk)

I don't know if I had any famous ancestors, I never really looked into my family tree. All I know is that my family came from such places as Jerusalem, Bethlehem to be exact. If I remember correctly, I think my family fled to either Turkey or Hungary during the Crusades. Then, some of them also came from Armenia, as well. Beyond that, I don't really know. I don't even know when they arrived on this side of the planet.

So I recently found out that one of my ancestors/relatives is Arthur Donaldson Smith,
Cool!

I have two

One of my cusions, many times removed, was Elizabeth Bagshaw. She was one of the first female doctors, and own and opperated the first birth control clinic in Canada. Also she was a single mother with an adopted autistic son.

The other, whom I'm VERY faintly related to, is and Admiral from the British Navy, who was in command of the blockade of Malta, he did not order it or anything, he was just the guy in charge while all the ships were there.

If you trace me fifteen generations back, you will find that I am a direct descendant of Francis Cooke. Yes, the one who traveled on the Mayflower.

Bow to me!
Useless fact for the night 1 in 10 Americans can be in one way or another be traced back to those that traveled on the Mayflower.

OT: I do not know of any famous ancestors I had but my Great-Grandpa was one of the first into the Concentration camps of WWII. Yeah he was pretty fucked up after that. Never talked about the war and would just get up and walk out of the room if someone started talking about it.

My family doesn't have access to their records. I have been disowned on both sides of my family. The knowledge on both sides stops on my grandparents side. However, it is possible we found someone who wasn't disowned from out family but we can't prove we are related(my mom's boss oddly enough). If that is so then I am related to Francis Bacon if I remember right.

Abraham Lincoln..
Please understand my skepticism when I say I don't believe you. Lincoln's ancestors are well documented and the last one died in 1982 (if I remember right). Unless it was via marriage or the relative title ends in "removed", I am going to not believe you.
No dude, I don't even believe I'm related to Lincoln, that's just what my family says. And when I say my family, I mean my divorced Grandfather. I wasn't really being too serious when I said that.

Leon Trotsky, the famous Russian spy, is my great grandfathers first cousin.
Have you ever seen the Trotsky? I figure that would be appropriate.
