Probably "The Ichneumon Method (And Less Welcome Techniques)" by English blackened-industrial band The Axis of Perdition. Their lyrics are primarily Silent Hill oriented.
The Dark Third by Pure Reason Revolution slightly poppy Pink Floyd-esque prog rock with a strong electronic influence and harmonic vocals, kinda hard to describe, just listen.
2nd Street by Back Street Crawler Very solid and well made and quite sombre 70s blues rock.
In the Future by Black Mountain A throwback to 60s/70s progressive and psychedelic rock. Think Jefferson Airplane meets early King Crimson. Really Good.
Hate by The Delgados Very pretty, sentimental and deceptively dark indie pop, with great song writing and orchestration.
Black Sheep Boy by Okkervil River Morose indie pop with solid songwriting.
Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk Fantastic early post rock, very beautiful and moving music.
Outer Isolation by Vektor Fantastic technical thrash metal, anyone who likes metal should check them out.

Is it really considered underrated? The Exorcist made part of Tubular Bells infamous, and Mike Oldfield performed it at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. but its been gaining ground locally after they played Little Talks on the radio (though to be fair I only heard it cause a friend works in radio and she let me hear it early to see what I thought, so its not like im complaining or getting hipster). Which isnt to say I dont like the band or album anymore, just I cant say not a lot of people have heard of it (though I still think a large majority of people who do know who they are in my area only really know little talks or Mountain sounds maybe).

Always seems to get a reliable "I dont know that one" or depending on the age, "Thats not a band, thats an album by Uriah Heep," whcih then usually devolves into muttering or arguing that people my age (young twenties) dont know any good music.
However, some people do know it from being metal fans, while others know it from the dark tower series its associated with (how I found out), and others know it cause of both.

Obviously you're never the only one but Future of the Left's "Travels with Myself and Another". I've never seen anyone mention it and anyone I speak to about them has never heard of it or the band
