my tastes genrally split across most types of rock and metal
My favourite would probably have to be System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine, with Nine Inch Nails right behind them

To select a favorite genre or band is hard. For me, I like almost all genres that can truly be classed as music in the eyes of any musician, and that means that emo genres and 3-chord bands are out. I'd have to say that my favorite genre falls in the hard-rock and metal variety, with the bands being Opeth, AC/DC and possibly Cradle of Filth or Metallica.

Don't have one. I only listen to good music, and if I don't like a band, I don't listen to them.
Disturbed is good, as is Billy Joel (I tried playing the piano once (8 years or so) and I have immense respect for someone who can play and sing at the same time). I also like (in no particular order) Weird Al, AC-DC, Lynard Skynard, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Bon Jovi, and Boogie Matrix Mechanism (my brother's band; psychedelic rock and hip-hop). Favorite genre, probably Metal or Psychedelic Rock.

I enjoy mostly post-rock. George Dorn Screams, Gregor Samsa, Mono, GY!BE, or We Made God are on the list. I listen to a ton of other stuff though.

I'm Huge into Electronica (I'm a Raver) so i like all forms of Trance, House, Funk, Disco, Happy Hardcore, drum and base..list goes on..forever. The GODS of Electronica are Daft Punk (which is a combo of Funk and Disco. If your not familiar with their stuff). That is not my opinion that is FACT. so there is your answer.

romantic music (period of classical music between 1810 and 1860) of which my favorite composer is Brahms.

I am also a big fan the transistional period between romantic and modern (1870-1910). Mahler is my favorite composer of that era.

While i have been a fan of modern classical music i do like were its going. Its becoming a jazz classical hybrid and it sounds pretty good. a good example of want i mean is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ye6piu1J74&feature=related movement of a bass trombone concerto. i hope modern classical music stays on this tread so i can enjoy playing it again.

My favorite band fluctuates pretty rapidly, but right now I'm really into The Decemberists.

As far as genre, I'm definitely an indie rock guy, but I do enjoy some heavy metal too.

Some day, I'm going to have a band called Search Button, and we're going to be a one-hit wonder with the song 'You Better Use It'.

I have too many "favorite bands" however Disturbed still ranks as number one. As for genre, I have no favorite as I literally listen to everything. Currently I have the theme from Xenosaga III "I believe in You" listening, and have played Rihanna's Disturbia, SOS, Shut up and Drive and Don't Stop the Music" to an endless degree little less then a week ago.

Switch that to Nickelback, Nightwish, Evanescence, Avril, various video game themes, Il Divo and even Britney's Womanizer. Yeah, my music taste is warped.
