I usualy dont like death of good characters in games, books, anime etc. because its usualy cheap way to make more drama but I have just read really good one. Its from book The Subtle Knife from His Dark Materials trilogy.
Lee Scoresby sacrifices himself to save Stanislaus Grumman because they are being chased by some Russian soldiers and Grumman is that more important one that has to survive.Things I liked about it were:

1. It wasnt that kind of sacrifice when the guy says "Go without me" and then we only have his world that he is dead. Almost whole chapter is about his fight.

2. He kills 30 soldiers and shoot down one zeppelin before he dies so his sacrafice is not vain.

3. All that time he is with his deamon so he doesn't die alone.

4. He is not most important character but you are still attached to him.

Thats probably all. The point is that most of these deaths are done pretty poorly so you have that feeling (or at least I have) that he should not died or he should die better way. I really liked this one because it just felt heroic so...
Whats your favorite death of good guy?

I really liked the deaths of L and Light. L's death made me delight in Light's victory, and Light's death was wonderfully melodramatic.

If it read "your favourite sad moment involving good characters" it would be two personal sacrifices made in the third book, but I'm not gonna ruin that for you if you havent read the third book.

for me favourite death of good character would be sirius black in harry potter (wierdly, I still find it a pretty affecting death, more so than dumbledores) far more feeling to it, didnt expect it all, its not too bad in the film version too.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2. You know what I mean. If not, I'm not going to spoil it.

<spoiler=Final Fantasy V>Galuf. He fights Exdeath on his own (the rest of the team and Krile having been paralysed), despite being brought down to zero HP, and wins. And then after the battle you have the scene where the other protagonists throw every healing spell and item they can think of at him while he's dying, and it doesn't work...

Diary of the Dead's Amish man, Samuel. I am of the opinion that it's the best suicide ever. I'm not any good at the coding, so I hope nobody that would like to see Romero's Diary of the Dead and hasn't seen it yet doesn't read this.

Zombies are surrounding Samuel's barn. Samuel and one of the college kids work together to pull the doors open so that they can get the Winnebago out and on the road again. They both run back to the door, Samuel grabs his scythe on the way. Kid hops on and Samuel goes to climb in and gets grabbed from behind by a zombie who takes a bite out of his face. Samuel screams, holds up his scythe and slams it through his own forehead into the face of the zombie and both fall to either side.

Not the most epic death or some great sacrifice. I just loved the suicide.

Some of my favorite deaths also come from Saving Private Ryan. Wade's death really tugs at the heart strings as he's trying keep a level head because he's the medic and nobody has the training he does to potentially keep him from dying. After getting their Captain to explain to him where the entry and exit wounds were he figured out that his liver had been pierced and he was going to bleed out before anything could be done to really save him. And then Mellish being stabbed to death by the German they'd caught and had to let go since they were a small group looking for one guy and a PoW would slow them down.

There are also two deaths on One Piece (one is actually a "take author's word for it" because the scene cuts out before a fight between the character and an incredibly powerful character who was Warden of the underwater prison "Impel Down." Both are extreme spoilers, so if you want to see who gets it and why it's such a big deal, you'd need to read the One Piece Manga or watch the Anime. Don't watch it dubbed. You'll want to flay your ears if you do. And that's not just because I've grown into one of those snobs that shuns dubbed shows and prefers the original with subtitles. 4Kids mutilated One Piece's voices. They tried too hard to mimic the way the Japanese voice actors sounded and came out with pretty bad voices.

There's my bit and a half.

I liked when they killed Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2. He wasn't an annoying emo kid in that game, and his death would have prevented a lot of future nonsense.
Unfortunately, nothing popular can stay dead so they had to ruin it by bringing him back.

Spike's death in the final episode of Cowboy Bebop. I really liked that series a lot, wished there was more of it. Normally can't stand most anime.
