For me it's a tie between Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX. All brilliant for totally different reasons.
Actually the original ending wasn't a cliffhanger, if I'm not mistaken. The ending with Chell being dragged off by something unknown was only added in after they decided to make Portal 2.BearShark said:I'm going to say Portal. It left a cliffhanger (as set up in the end credits song), but still gave you the satisfaction of killing GLaDOS. And the cliffhanger couldn't have been set up better, as the producers could really do whatever they wanted with the next game, and still keep continuity.
Yup, the original ending did not have you being dragged off like that, you just escaped. I don't generally like retcons, so I wouldn't say that was somethign I approved of.Dr Jones said:Actually the original ending wasn't a cliffhanger, if I'm not mistaken. The true ending was perfect.cojo965 said:Dragon's Dogma has multiple endings, but while most milti ending games have two or three endings, Dragon's Dogma has eight. Most of them don't actually end the game, just the current arc, like with the dragon itself. The true ending though blew my mind and demonstrated to me that Capcom can write quite well when they put their minds to it.
This. I only finished this game a little over a week ago but it was GOTY for 2012 before that. It was so simple yet it all made sense. One of my favorite parts wascojo965 said:Dragon's Dogma has multiple endings, but while most multi ending games have two or three endings, Dragon's Dogma has eight.
