OMG! OMG! OMG!!! Never expected to see her on this list, and I'm proud that you put her here! But personally, I would have used Copycat as an example of her chameleon (get it?) voice.
Though many female singers have influenced me, none have left an impact like Siouxsie Sioux. Not only did she influence my fashion sense, but she inspired me to start up a punk band in high school.
I tend to listen to mostly male vocalists (I prefer harsh vocals to cleans these days and there aren't many women that do harsh vocals though there are notable exceptions).
When it comes to singers already listed I love Anneke van Giersbergen, Bjork and Stevie Nicks.
However let me attempt to find a few that haven't been mentioned yet.
I absolutely love this song. Howard Shore's composition is so dark and melancholy and Emiliana Torrini's vocals are a perfect fit.
Lauren Mayberry's vocals are adorable and fragile but they aren't childlike. Also her prominent Scottish accent (an accent that's not often known for being pretty) gives her voice endless charm for me.
Elizabeth Fraser's voice doesn't need lyrics. I WANT A LOVABLE BUMBLEBEE.
Best female vocalists? Either for their power or their uniqueness, that make me sit up and say, holy crap what a voice, I would say Annie Lennox, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys, none of whom are exactly unknown and who I see have already been mentioned. But damn, they're all famous for a reason. I'll add Billie Holiday to that list too. Thanks Fallout 3 for introducing me to her.
