The Lord of Light religion from the Ice and Fire series is pretty cool. I've always liked the ideas and concepts between light versus darkness (More in a literal sense, than good versus evil). I also like their motto. "The night is dark, and full of terrors."

I expected someone to have written "Christianity" in here already, but then again I guess it's not a fan favourite.

Kane... the bestest quasifacist immortal alien messiah ever!
Seconded, he literally rose again!
TWICE! He also bring up the point of who is really the good guys a coaliton of first world militaries that left 80% of huimanity to die from Tiberium poisoning or the militant church that holds sway over public opinion with crafty propaganda?

I did, but in a classy dignified way... that everyone missed, I guess. I'm actually a bit sad about that, but hey, it is what it is.

Unitology From DeadSpace

Altman be praised
It seems I've been ninja'd. I actually have Unitology set as my "religion" on Facebook, so of course they're my favourite. It's probably half due to the awesome imagery they employ (they may be insane, but the Unitologists sure have some damn fine graphic designers working on their behalf), and half due to the fact that they worship friggin' space zombies.

I've always been a fan of the Church of the One God of Earth and Erna from CS Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy.

Also, although not a religion, this is a friendly reminder that your friend, The Computer is watching and that you probably are not high enough clearance to view this thread citizen. (Paranoia)

Why are you fools raving about the Emperor as if he was some god? He is merely our glorious father, a man without peer and wisdom beyond mortal understanding. He has set aside religion in favor of progress and scientific advancement! Do not trust the words of Lorgar and his Lectitio Divinitatus--he is acting against His word in practicing such pagan acts!

Nonetheless:
R'hllor seems like a pretty sweet god who gets shit done in Westeros, in comparison to the Seven, who seem more like our real world gods, simply being figures people worship without putting out.

Gork and Mork. Who doesn't like a cunningly brutal and brutally cunning god? Who can know which one is which? I dunno, let's go krump zum humies! WAAAGH!

I'm gonna go with...The Force! Not much else can beat that. It's a religion that's so powerful that it will literally allow you to choke out nonbelievers millions of miles away!!!!
But can it conjure up stolen data tapes? Or give you clairvoyance to find the rebel's hidden fortress? I think not.

I'mma go with... whatever Adventure Time runs on. Must be great.

i'm kinda fond of the religion from the shuffle universe. wherein gods and devils are just humanoid aliens with magic powers and pretty much standard humans in every other aspect. plus it has nothing to do with good or evil.

Im going to have to say that the "religion" from the movie Equilibrium has got to my favourite. The movie portrays a society in which emotions are suppressed and everyone is working for the "greater good".

Yeah, some of it is classy, but the way some of its fans go on, really makes it hard to call it a favorite. :p

Anyway, seriously, The Immaculate Order from Exalted. It's the rare case where someone manages to create a false religion, that is to say, a religion that is flat out based on lies about the setting, and still manages to make it interesting and compelling.

I've seen better handled religions in fiction, but that element has made it a personal favorite.

Whatever it is the religion of the god-emporor is called.
Every other time a fictional religion drops it's subtlety it's to mock some particular real faction.

This however was just trying to be awesome.

And it totally succeeded.

with gusto.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a name. The Ecclesiarchy is the church itself, but by that, I mean the ordained clergy, the actual church bureaucracy and some cloistered orders... including the Adeptus Sororitas. Beyond that it really doesn't have a name, and you wouldn't call someone "a follower of The Ecclesiarchy", because that's really more a profession.

It's simply the only religion in the Imperium of Man, with the possible exception of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Hey man, nobody is usually able to become all knowing through their religion. That makes a pretty boring story.

Do not listen to their foul lies Ironman! They are xeno's and the xeno is to never be listened to, only purged in the God-Emperor's name!

The God-Emperor of mankind, may he guide my soul as he guides mankind through these dark times and once more into glory! Nothing can withstand his divine might and purity!

OT: The God-Emperor if you couldn't tell by now. :D

There is only one GOD-EMPEROR and thats Muad Dib of DUNE :0
I take it you missed the part where he mentions his dislike for the concept of being a religious figure(much like the the one from DoW universe, also much like in DoW it was someone else who built up the whole thing, in Dunes case Paul's sister Alia)
Though yeah, given the end result, it is probably the best fictional religion, as his son
Leto II, the actual God-Emperor (with a reign of 3 millennia's give/take few centuries) used it to free humanity from the shackles of the predetermined cosmic course.
