Now ummm...I think for my entry, I'll use Oddworld. Everybody remember Oddworld, featuring our heroic slave-Muddokin, Abe? Those first two games were great fun, and there was promise of a quintology like...years ago. Then...whoops! They dropped the ball and signed up exclusively for Microsoft and released a lukewarm game and a not-really-liked game. Years later, they say "Oh, we're getting back in the game!" and...whoops again! Still on Microsoft and not multi-system like they should. Haven't heard anything since that report, so I guess they're dead again.
They aren't dead, there site is back up and running again and they are planning some HD remakes including Abe's Odyssey HD. They are also apparently making a PC oddworld strategy game.

Strangers Wrath was pretty good by the way and has come out on PC and will soon be on PS3 in HD. As far as I know, they aren't dead and MS exclusive.

Anyway OT:

Rayman (Although origins may be good)
Spyro (Just look at him now)
Final Fantasy (Really didn't like 13 and from what I have read 14 is terrible)

Area 51 - great game, horribly shitty sequel.

That said they're claiming Blacksite isn't actually a sequel but given how horrible the game was I doubt Area 51 will ever get a sequel now.

Paracite Eve. Loved the first one. They ruined the second with bad controls and the third, wtf? Where did Ayas' powers go? What's with the time travel? Oh and DMC4 is worse than DMC2 (in my opinion).

I don't really have any that got destroyed by the sequels. Even if the sequels were bad, and I might hate what they did to the franchise, it usually doesn't affect my enjoyement of the original. For example, it's a movie, but I love the first Matrix. And it didn't need any sequels and I'm just going to pretend they don't exist.

Well, pokemon might be one such case. Because the sequels aren't bad, I still keep buying them and enjoy them, but feel bad for it and feel like I should demand innovation...

Silent Hill.

I'm going to disagree with Yahtzee on this aswell so i'll await being mobbed by his fans afterwards.
I'm going to disagree with you here, but I don't think you're wrong. The thing with horror (as well as comedy) is that it's so subjective. I've read several horror books/watched movies etc. that just pulled all the wrong threads for me, things that simply didn't scare me, or presented in a slightly wrong way.

You are very correct.

I just preferred the first Silent Hill it just had a more "eerie" feel to it. Plus it was one of my first introductions to Survival Horror so has a special place in my heart.

But you are right, horror is what the person watching makes of it. Of course with games that have so many sequels people's opinions will vary on the subject of which one is best or if they were any good at all.

I loved Call of Duty 4, 5 was dull but I thought it was Treyarchs fault, then came Modern Warfare 2 which killed my faith completely, and finally Black Ops laid a turd on my faiths corpse. Command and Conquer died with the 4th instalment. Civilization V was watered down and incredibly limited. Bioshock 2 was unnecessary, but didn't destroy my love of Bioshock 1. Oh and Dragon Age 2, too linear, didn't live up to Origins.

"Deus Ex: Invisible War" kinda sucked compared to the original.

I also didn't like how the driving in GTA:IV was made more "realistic". I liked the cinematic style of the previous games and Saint's Row 2 much better.

Finally, I'd have to say that most MMOs get worse, not better, after a few expansions. Everquest was like that in a really bad way. I found it lost it's charm and character after a while, especially when there were so many zones I could go all day without finding enough people to make a group in any one place :/.

sonic for me, it's a no brainer besides 2, they never seemed to replicate the awesomeness of the first one

Assassin's Creed. 1 & 2 were amazing (even if they each had a couple issues), why did Brotherhood suck!!?
I'm hoping it was just a fluke, so I'll have to wait and see what Revelations starts to look like as the release date approaches.

I loved the first Silent Hill. It was new in the survival horror genre, it was eerie and it had atmoshpere. It had a decent plot and good characters and decisions you made affected the outcome.

Good gameplay, graphics were okay but it felt right.

I just couldn't get the same feel from any of the others. They just seemed to be trying too hard to spooky and failing in the process.
I agree but to me the series went to hell (pun not intended) after the fourth game, and it just lost everything that was good about it and went straight to fan pandering.

OT: Tomb Raider, it just got weird and not in a good way, and it made exploration almost pointless.

The reboot scares me a little.

Probably Final Fantasy X. While it certainly isn't my "favorite" game. I still thought it was a good game in it's own right.

Now Final Fantasy X-2, that was a disaster.

An HD version of Abe's Oddysee? FUCK. YES.

I loved that game ever since I was little. And I thought in terms of graphics, it has aged very well. I can't imagine what it will look like in HD.

The Battlefield series, first three games (if i count that right) were AWESOME, Bf2 had a few changes, in a good way, but then Bad Company happened and turned this awesome series into a CoD clone! What the HELL EA!?!

Yeah I'm going to have to say Ultima. The most respected and venerated CRPG series of all time, the loins from which so many of today's classic RPG's sprung, way ahead of their time technically and thematically...turned into dopey arcade adventures riddled with so many crippling bugs they made Battlecruiser 3000 AD look like the very model of stability.
You really cant blame an entire genre apparently filled with bugs on a single game.

I certainly can't. The last two Ultima games turned into dopey arcade adventures. Not the entire genre.

Conker's Bad Fur Day. Not the sequel, since that bullshit Microsoft cancelled it. That's how It was ruined.

And Banjo-Kazooie. Nuts n' Bolts was actually a GREAT game. But it wasn't a great game for the Banjo-Kazooie series. And guess who was at fault again for this?

Red Alert 3 was the bad one of the Series
Command and Conquer 4 was the bad one
I say Fallout 3 was bad, but at least they got a lot of lessons right in Fallout New Vegas.
Sim City got killed by "Sim City Societies"
Dawn of War II for killing the RTS part (but the gameplay was good on merit, I did like Ground Control series)

That's the current list based off the games that I remember playing thoughout the years, of course there are probably much much more (hell, I wish I could remember what Z: Steel Soldiers and Z2 was like, but alas, I forgot.)
