Um...Tales of Symphonia is my favorite game, and the one I got the most significant attachment to? I guess? I mean, it's also one of only two games where I found myself cursing at a character on-screen. Not cursing out of frustration. Cursing because I wanted to kill them painfully. Yeah...I'd gotten rather attached to a certain character by that point, and seeing her suffer needlessly was rather affecting. >_>

Also, Tales of the Abyss. Akzeriuth. Utter horror. I can't go into more detail...but if you ever wanted to see a man taken down so many pegs he goes into a coma, it's there.

And I'm still rather fond of the Baten Kaitos games' pretension towards having the player be involved directly as the main character's "guardian spirit." It made the plot twists in both games to be genuinely shocking.

Also, there's something strangely liberating about flying around in Neverland on Kingdom Hearts. It almost feels like the way I fly in my dreams.

Also, speaking as one of maybe three people on the Escapist who liked Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, I really enjoyed watching the way Emil and Marta developed.

I would have to back Final Fantasy X. It's the first jRPG I got really into, and which inspired my love of the whole genre. Sure, the main character is a whiny *****, but the other characters, the story and the script all really moved me.

This, too. That was probably one of my favourite levels on the game. I killed a good 10-20 minutes 'pretending' not to know where to go, despite my brother practically yelling at me that the way ahead was blah, blah... :)

I make a tradition of replaying Final Fantasy 8 every year in the week between Christmas and NYE, so I guess that?

Honestly, I've been off JRPGs for a while now, haven't really had the inclination to sit for many dozens of hours involved in something linear, but I've just started playing Lost Odyssey (a couple of days ago, despite owning it for over a year now). Only six hours in, which is probably equivalent to about four hours for most people 'cos I spend a LOT of time messing around, and I'm loving it.

But yes, as of tomorrow, it's time to dig out the PS2 and an old PS1 memory card and spend the week playing FF8 for the 11th time. Maybe I'll even finish it this time...

Sitting at home during a big snowstorm and Playing Tales of Symphoina for the first time.

Beating the final Boss of P3 for the first time at about level 83 and having to do the final phase twice because Ken got Charmed.

Beating Ragu Ragula in Wild Arms 1, made a bit easier by being a few levels above him and all the work I put into getting the Frog badges. Then proceeding to kick the shit out of the final boss due to all the over leveling.

Defeating Phantom Train in FF6 with a Phoenix down is always enjoyable, Actually all of FF6 was enjoyable except for the time I forgot where I parked the air ship and spent two weeks trying t find it.

The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed...Man I hated Nyx Avatar, although in my case after about half an hour I died because Mitsuru did the wrong thing. After that I leveled up to about level eighty-three then used the Armageddon spell on Nyx Avatar and called it a day.

My favorite is of course Persona 3, it has taken the lofty spot once held by Xenogears.

Great selections all there. FF3/6 I got from christmas when I was 14- I remember getting in trouble for trying to sneak and play it after everyone was asleep.

FF 2/4 holds a special place for me because it was the 1st RPG I ever played. I rented it from the local store and promptly send 2 days bonded to the gaming screen.

I don't understand why people say that, if it was you in his position you would have been ALOT worse than him, just think about the main plot twists he has to go through.

My favorite is FFX aswell, only two things about it I don't like, catcher chocobo and dodging the lightening bolts.

My favorite experience with a JRPG was the opening section of FF7 when you were in that big city.

Finding out that Cloud wasn't actually who he thought he was in FF VII. I love plot twists more than a nice cup of coffee in the morning.

Haha fuck you.
Seconded.

On topic, I loved that staircase/flashback in Final Fantasy VI that you walk down before getting an airship. Also, just Zeal in Chrono Trigger, so beautiful even by the standards of that game.

Can't decide between Legend of Mana or Chrono Cross. (You read right. Not Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger, but their sequels.)

Tough one. Giving it to Legend of Mana. For always providing me with hours of fun just learning new moves and the intertwining quests.

I really loved Shadow of the Colossus. It was a purely awesome game. If they tossed in just a few human-sized enemies, some optional weapons and armor and maybe even a village or two it would be epic! I loved killing the giant beasts, and obviously that's what the game is all about. But tossing in some other things to make the colossi just a little bit more awe striking each time you fight one would only help to improve the game. The story eluded me somewhat tho^^

SoC isn't a JRPG.

Man, that game was so awesome. I didn't have a clue what was happening storywise half the time, but everything looked was so beautiful and so much fun to play, it really didn't matter.
Don't forget the penguin pirates! and dudbears!
