He can summon the avatar Skeith, and Skeith is a total badass. He has a kick-ass variety of weapons such as his dual knives, big-ass broad sword, scythe, and dual guns.

thirdly; its more than just mining equipment, there is an ASSAULT RIFLE.
fourthly; i wanted isaac to die, i did not care for him at all. its hard to care for a character with the emotional range of a lump of cement
fifth; Because, he was REALLY, going to stay on the ship, infested with aliens, ANYONE WOULD GO HOME!!!
sixth; he cares, watch the opening cutscene again, he re-watches the clip of his gf/wife like a billion times according to random chick on the ship wit j00

(His dodging of bullets, being bad ass in general, wanting to like kill everyone, and being the BEST BLOODY CHARACTER EVAR, in mercs mode in RE 5 makes me say that he is best, i dont care that he isnt the main character, he is the main EVIL character, so, yeah)
For one, the Assault Rifle blows. It's actually the worst weapon in the game, so I just used the mining equipment.bradley348 said:
Secondly, I liked Isaac caring. If you read his logs you'll learn he's absolutely bricking himself because he's being attacked by zombies (I refuse to call them aliens when they look like humans with pointy wrists, and dead). Also, near the end, he doesn't care. At all. Not even in the slightest. He finds out his girlfriend is dead and just facepalms himself. He's more shocked when the tentacle monster pops up really. (That might sound strange, but he'd fought weirder looking things and hardly flinched).
Thirdly, 1 third of the his help is smushed to pieces by a huge zomborg, the 2nd third is shot. In the heart. And well, I won't spoil what the third does, the spiteful little strumpet.
FOURTLEH, I loved the fact Isaac was human. The only non-human thing about him was his mutenes, which in his logs he puts down to "Not having anything decent to say". And, well. His ability to get gored in the face and just get up and walk away.
Solid Snake, along with his alter ego "Clone father" Big Boss (aka naked snake).
I mean he took down a 200 foot tall nuclear equipped walking battle tank with nothing but a bunch of shoulder fired rockets... about three times now.
I mean this guy and his genetic lineage have taken on the toughest bosses in gaming history, often beating them with the most rudimentary equipment like hand grenades against an M1 Abrams tank, a measly pistol against the greatest sniper in the world and even a knife against a flame-thrower wielding cosmonaut zooming about on a rocket pack.
Other fights are less fair like using remote controlled rockets against an opposing sniper

Even when he got old and decrepit he still fought on, though he hung around in the cut scenes a lot more. I can just imagine it:
Meryl: "Well, it only took me 4 minutes to explain you next objective now run off to your next task"
Old Snake: "Err, well I, phew-"
Meryl: "Are you getting old snake? If you want a rest..."
Old Snake: "NO! I just, well tell me more about err, you know, what's happening, exposition wise"
Meryl: "aren't you in a hurry?"
Old Snake: "oh no, I've got about another 20 minutes"

Nearly all the story characters from Ogre Battle 64, but Biske La Varet (the werewolf) tops the list.
Kain from the Legacy of Kain series. Pretty much a quintessential antihero. Raziel was badass as well but too forever to even realize who he was as a character, thus too flighty to one up Kain.
I am also fond of Oda Nobunaga from the Samurai Warriors series. Awesome combo set and power and just had an appeal as a leader to me.
Other than that, I don't tend to get into main characters that much. Sure I like Alex Mercer and Altair but their appeal is formulaic so they might as well be the same person if you actually compare their way of thinking. I prefer games that let me design a character anyway and I tend to hate Jrpgs, especially the FF series, with a passion. The only exception was Disgaea 1 & 2 and I didn't care enough about the main characters not to replace them with all sorts of monsters and humanoids.

As for the topic at hand: Most recently Yuri from Tales of Vespreia, He doesn't whine about his problems the goes out and kills them.
Also Terra from FF6, She was just a girl looking for a purpose besides a killing machine.
