Leon S. Kennedy.
Lets face facts; The president's daughter has been kidnapped, shes being held in a rural european town and the town is controlled by a relgious cult. The americain government send one man; Leon. S. Kennedy, he goes in with 25 pistol rounds, a pistol and a david bowie haircut and still comes out smelling of roses.

1. Max Payne.
Probably the most complicated and deepest main character ever. He's so easy to identify with. He can kill 300 people without moving a muscle on his face, dual wield Desert Eagles, survive almost anything, but still has emotional problems he can't deal with. Also, he has the best lines in the history of gaming.
2. Commander Shepard.
No need to explain here. Utterly badass and YOU get to choose, what he says.
3. Niko Bellic.
Deep personality, badass attitude.

man, turned into monster for trying to protect woman he loves from destroying herself by birthing mega-soldier for scientific purposes, who spends twenty odd years in a basement punishing himself for letting her... she isn't dead, but... err... crystalise?

Unlike other J-RPG protaganists, Haseo starts out as a total dick, he insults the other characters in vol. 1, (but then he stops being like that)
He can summon the avatar Skeith, and Skeith is a total badass. He has a kick-ass variety of weapons such as his dual knives, big-ass broad sword, scythe, and dual guns.
His outfits are totaly awesome.

My favourite character has to be Kratos from the God of War games, because no matter what he does or how fucked up his decisions are, you can't help but symphatize with because of what he's been through. The guy could really use some anger management therapy though, but then the games wouldn't be as good, would they?
