What is your favorite weapon used by any military that is no longer in service because it was impractical, illegal, expensive, or just obsolete?

I have to go with the Davy Crockett [i/]Atomic Annie[/i]

If you dont know what that is, it is a nuclear mortar, that could be attached to a jeep or other vehicle to be transported.

It's like the [i/]fat man[/i] from the fallout games, except a lot less hand-held, and it looked like a tube with an old-fashioned atomic bomb at the tip.

Another favorite is the French [i/]Le Mat[/i], which was a 9 shot revolver with secondary barrel underneath the primary barrel that shot shotgun shells

Those look funny.

I suppose I'll say... The Lee Enfield Rifle.
Those are quite good rifles... and all my other favourites are still in use somewhere.

The B2 Bomber. Why you ask, because it looks cool (and my dad help build it).

OICW

Objective Individual Combat Weapon or something.

Didn't actually ever go into mass use, because it was far too expensive, bulky and not that much better than a normal rifle; but it was the coolest piece of military hardware ever developed.

The X8 rifle. Damned shame they cancelled that, it looks sexy, really future-ish. Would've loved to see that as the next standard rifle, but nooooo....

I want one, like, now.

The M1 is freaking awesome.
yep 2 wars (i think) and made of wood so you can hit something with it, only problem is its about 10 pounds
Yeah, but you don't really need to carry it too far, just find a nice high ground and let the accuracy do the rest. :)

A-1 Skyraider, last piston engine attack aircraft the US military used. Sexy, and could sling up more payload than the planes weight.

Tommygun. Nothin says WWII special ops like a straight clipped Thompson. Heavy, loud, and not terribly accurate, they were primarily used as sweepers. But man, are they ever a slick looking gun.
