Oh boy, there are many:

-Halo series: Sweeping orchestra, strong choir, accented by electronics and exotic percussion. ODST shook things up with some noir-style stuff, really good.

-Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Best electronic score I've heard.

-Mass Effect: The first game is an homage to classic sci-fi, old school synths and stuff. It's very cool. The rest of the series is a little more standard, but all likable stuff. The ending music for ME3 is exceptional.

-Uncharted series: Mixes classic Hollywood techniques with ethnic flavor. The same composer that did Firefly!

-The Elder Scrolls: The absolute best straight up orchestral music in games. Honorable mention to Guild Wars (same composer, same basic style)

-Medal of Honor: The WW2 entries in the franchise have exceptional music. In the same style of John Williams' Saving Private Ryan and Michael Kamen's Band of Brothers.

-The Star Wars games have a pretty good stable of composers.

There's probably a good deal more, but that's off the top of my head.

A lot of people have mentioned Bastion so far, but I prefer the higher energy instrumental tracks. This one particularly:

Another favorite from one that was mentioned a lot, Journey.

I also love Akira Yamaoka's work on the Silent Hill series, from the disturbing

to the beautiful.

Into happier music, there's the soundtrack of my summer, Botanicula:

Which means I also have to mention the equally quirky music of the equally wonderful Machinarium.

I also fell in love with the mysterious, underwatery music from Aquaria, this one especially.

Then there's the always-atmospheric music of the Myst series, particularly Riven

and Uru.

Continuing into MMO territory, I've always loved the FFXI soundtrack. From the classical western fantasy sound of Ronfaure

to the more JRPG-sounding Windurst.

The FFXIV soundtrack had some gold on it to, my favorite being this:

Even Perfect World had some fun songs, especially this one.

And that's quite enough for one post...

Nier: I hate buying soundtracks, but I bought this one and didn't regret it.

Dragon's Dogma: a bit on the bombastic side, but also very good and not at all afraid to spice up the orchestral stuff with a bit of pop/rock

Oho you're so funny. I admit IX has a good soundtrack but the best FF?

That title goes to Final Fantasy X and it's soundtrack.

HOTLINE MIAMI

It's synth pop with a 80's feel at a guess, check it out if you read this.

I really like the stuff by M.O.O.N. but it's all good. Coming from a heavy rock kinda guy.

Edit: I can't be the first to mention this :/ grim times

Can't believe I haven't seen Xenoblade Chronicles here. Quite amazing soundtrack on that game. Here's my favorite:

Im sure people will mention some of my favorite tracks from the newer generation of games, so i thought I would go a little bit more old school (but not quite all the way into old school, that would be SNES and before)

Guardian Heroes. delicious use of saxaphone in a rock-ish setting.

Your rival's battle theme song:

And im sure someone has mentioned it already, but the Persona soundtrack (3+4)

No way man. FFX was complete ass. The Soundtrack was okay and the battle system was good. But the Story and characters and everything else fucking sucked hard.

More awesome IX music.

Bastion, Halo, Cave Story, Zelda, Persona, Dark Souls all deserve honorable mentions but the winner for me will always be Neotokyo* the Source mod. Every single track from that mod is a fucking masterpiece.

Oh please. X is brilliant! The music was calming, soothing and awesome. I've actually attempted playing IX lately but i'd just... meh-ish. In my opinion, although the soundtrack is nice.

X is my favourite FF game.

If Nobuo Uematsu had a hand in it than I will like it as the worst case. My favorite OST though would probably have to be for Final Fantasy IX.

Why yes, I did just post the whole thing. Vamo Alla Flamenco, The Jesters of the Moon, Steiner's Theme (ESPECIALLY STEINER'S THEME), Ukele le Chocobo...I love all of these: They have a personality all their own and really convey the characters and situations they're attached to, especially Steiner's Theme.

JSRF, Bioshock 1 & 2 ( 1 is better but 2's main theme is <3 )

Shadow of the Colossus is also beautiful, although I'm not fond of all the tracks it's still amazing.

Journey because Austin Wintory rocks.

And every single Guild Wars game because woo Jeremy Soule!

What? We've gone two whole pages and haven't heard from Chrono Cross yet?

Dreamwatch of Time:

Quitting the Body:

People Imprisoned by Destiny:

The gameplay and plot aren't quite up to snuff, but the OST is fantastic.

I love Super Meat Boy's soundtrack as well as The Binding of Isaac's, both by Danny Baranowsky and contributing artists and remixers. Here are a few I particularly liked.

PLAY IT. PLAY IT NOW. IT IS BETTER IN EVERY WAY.

Moar!
It's not age that's the problem since I went through FFVII and VIII recently in the past few months, so it must be another problem as to why I don't like it... it's art style and character design and how the gameplay feels a looks kinda ticks me off.

It is not better in every way.

The only reason the art is like that is to counter act the REALLY fucking dark undertones during certain parts of the game. *Cough* Genocide *Cough* Death *Cough* Mortality *Cough*

When you get to Disk two these things really come into play. Bermecia, Cleyra and Lindblum go though genocide. The Black Mage Village goes though mortality as with Kuja in the later parts of the game. And death is evident in many fucking locations as well, usually going arriving hand in hand with the other two.

If I saw that shit with Art similar to VIII the game would have been very fucking depressing to play through.

Plus the gameplay is most similar to the Final Fantasy games that came before VII.

I second Bastion. Some of my other favourite video game OSTs include Shadow of the Colossus, Chrono Trigger, Soul Reaver, MGS 4, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy VI, Sly Cooper and Deadly Premonition. Here are some of my favourite songs:

And last, but not least:

Wow, two pages and no love for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? Or is that so obvious it didn't even warrant mention?

Also, Beyond Good & Evil:

Of course, being and old school gamer, I love me some chiptunes and MIDI. One of the first game soundtracks I actually paid attention to was this one:

And this one:

And before that, there was Journey to Silius, the first NES game to sport an extra chip just for the soundtrack:

There's a LOT more, but enough is enough...
