I had a Lovebird who I had raised since she was a baby, I never knew I could be that close to a bird until I got her. She used to climb into my shirt and sleep there for hours, snuggle up next to my neck and was a huge comfort and morale boost to have around.

She died just before this past Thanksgiving. She flew out into the living room and fell over and went limp as if she had a stroke(which I'm pretty sure is what happened). I was holding her trying to keep her calm while trying not to freak out myself... and she died in my hands. I was completely crushed and I'm still having a hard time dealing with it. It also doesn't help that I've had a really shitty year.

It may sound silly to some people, but I had never been so close to a pet as I was to that little green bird.

I've never had a pet that wasn't a cat or dog.

However, I once knew a couple who had an orphaned ringtial possum [http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UzOYY5t2xow/TedPlY_vOqI/AAAAAAAAAaU/IkrDrVdALP0/s1600/Ringtail-Possum.jpg] for a pet.

He would run around on the rafters and liked to steal people's hats. He was pretty cool.

one word, people; formicarium. Classy, unusual and awesome!

Tried for a few years to get one working from a queen, but no resounding successes so far. trying again this spring.

I once had a Ferret spend 10 minutes trying to gnaw through one of my socks... while I was wearing it.

It was the cutest thing ever.

Coconut crab! Think headcrab from half life but bigger. Just as good at climbing, though.

I have an African Sideneck Turtle for a pet. I feed him goldfish and Koi food pellets. Whenever it's feeding time I hum Saria's Song from LoT:OoT, and as soon as I start he swims over to the corner where I drop the food. As far as pets go, he's pretty awesome.

Not a picture of mine, but close enough to get the point across.

I used to have an axolotl

Weird creatures they are.
Weird yes, but so darn adorable! Are they difficult to look after?
Haha yeah they are pretty adorable. As for looking after them it's not too difficult. You just have to make sure the water is clean and stays at around 18-20 degrees C.

I bought my other half an Axolotl who she named "Grumpy". He is quite greedy but fun to watch.

I have no pets unless you would call Dwarf Fortress sentient, which I sometimes feel it is. The next question is who is whose pet.

We now have an Igauna and she is wonderful and curious.

I also love Ferrets, I want one some day.
Ferrets are amazing I want some of them! :D

OT: Umm, I'd like a badger xD You can train them like dogs but theyr're clean and don't maul children.

I've never had a pet, but if I were to get one, I'd probably be looking at a tarantula. They're pretty cool looking; fairly unusual for pets and, most importantly, I'd have a comeback against dog owners who tell me, "It's okay, he won't hurt you!" Grr

I can't hear someone talk about their pet Iguana without thinking about Sanchez from Licence To Kill [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Licence_to_Kill].

Also going to +1 to getting a ferret one day. They seem pretty awesome.

I'm not sure if you can have one as a pet, but a hedgehog would be pretty cool.

Fish are quite awesome, so relaxing just watching them swim around & be completely carefree.

I had a bird once, a little parakeet named Bob, he had an interesting personality. I would love to have another bird, but if I do get one I want a Sun Conure & I will name it Purple.
