Your Favorite Pet That Isn't a Dog or Cat

I've never had a non dog/cat pet, but my niece has a hamster and two birds. They are just about the cutest things ever.

Snakes are cool pets, especially constrictors. I had a ball python and he was cool. just laid there in his terrarium, chilled out. Could take him out and he curl up on your arm. was fun watching him eat mice. but I had to give him away after he got to his max height cause i didnt have the space/my mother was freaked out by it.

so looking back now if i iddnt get another, id get a ferret i would say. they're cool. though I dont know much about them, and id be worried they're violent. so maybe just some fish, cause fish are always cool to look at and its nice to have something else in your home with you.

FERRETS! Ferrets are adorable, smart, and just a little insane. I'd take one of these fuzzy dudes over a dog or cat any day.

As I type this, my ferret is slowly, laboriously, pulling my shoes into his cage. Why? Why not?

I had a Lovebird who I had raised since she was a baby, I never knew I could be that close to a bird until I got her. She used to climb into my shirt and sleep there for hours, snuggle up next to my neck and was a huge comfort and morale boost to have around.

She died just before this past Thanksgiving. She flew out into the living room and fell over and went limp as if she had a stroke(which I'm pretty sure is what happened). I was holding her trying to keep her calm while trying not to freak out myself... and she died in my hands. I was completely crushed and I'm still having a hard time dealing with it. It also doesn't help that I've had a really shitty year.

It may sound silly to some people, but I had never been so close to a pet as I was to that little green bird.

Damn, man.

I came here to say I've never really owned anything aside from a dog, but I'm interested in getting a bird. Though my mum is afraid of them.

If I got one, I'd probably get a Northern Bluejay.

That's an easy one: my turtle, Reptar! He's a Wood Turtle, which means he likes both land and water, so we have a water-tank for him, but mostly he runs around the house. He's practically potty-trained, in that when he's gotta go, he looks up at his tank, one of us puts him in, and he does his business right next to the water filter.

Totally frickin' pro, for a turtle.

The best pet I ever had was a ferret, and even after 2 years, I miss her badly. For rodents, Guinea Pigs are pretty awesome too. They live long enough for a pet to not feel disposable (a saddening part of owning most rodents), and they are damn sociable. Downright stupid and simple compared to the ferret though.
