Castle in the Sky.

That movie has everything - action, drama, comedy and romance! And air pirates. Everything you can think of plus the kitchen sink, and it WORKS!

And there's no CGI. Awesome.

If you had said Miyazaki then it would have been Spirited Away, my brother's favourite movie ever. But if we're just going with Studio Ghibli, then it's Grave Of The Fireflies, my favourite movie ever.

Gonna have to echo the Princess Mononoke sentiment here. Though to be quite honest I don't really care for Ghibli's work as a whole.

I suspect I'm lacking the requisite receptors to enjoy childlike wonder.

Princess Mononoke, though I want to stress that I love or at least enjoy them all, with the exception of "The Ocean Waves" and "Only Yesterday".

Rather than arguing over favorites (which this thread isn't doing; I'm referring to other conversations I've had) I'm just glad that all of these great movies exist.

My favourite is The Cat Returns. Why does no one ever mention that one?

Whisper of the Heart is also incredibly touching despite having such a simple story and none of the trademark Ghibli fantasy elements.

Spirited Away, followed extremely closely by Mononoke. They are my two absolute favourites when it comes to Ghibli movies. They're just pure magic

Princess Mononoke. It does the best at man VS nature theme that pops up in a lot of Ghibli films (in that it doesn't make nature out to be "the good guys" and man to be "the bad guys". Both sides have good and bad to them making them more three dimensional). And it has the Ghibli trademark stunning visuals.

And it's a plus that it has probably the best dub. It was written by Niel Gaiman after all.

So hard to choose, I love each films there is no single favourite. I suppose I like watching these films the most-

Laputa: Castle in the Sky- The first anime I've ever watch but I forgot about it most of the time until I rediscover Studio Ghibli.

Spirit Away- The film that got me to remember Studio Ghibli and the film pretty much blown me away.

Kiki Special Delivery- It's a good kiddy/ child like film.

Whisper of the Heart- I love the mudane setting while at the same time has wonderful fantasy setting within her story.

Princess Mononoke absoloutley loved it, because it is such a great adventure story even my mum enjoyed it.
The other best two in my opinion are Spirited away and howells moving castle.

Whisper of the Heart, although it must be sad that have greatly enjoyed all of their movies to a great extent. I find it rather amusing that Pixar and Ghibli have overtaken disney in terms of quality and such, but since disney owns all of their distribution rights (and all of pixar), the old castle still wins out.

Princess Mononoke is brilliant. I really love the conflict between Romanticism and Classicism as personified by the residents of Iron Town and the forest spirits. The animation is stellar and honestly I believe the movie would have been a bigger deal had it not been released along side Titanic.
