Tonight I am enjoying my Halloween beer, Hobgoblin a 5.2% ruby ale from the Wychwood Brewery. It is one of the best beers (IMO) on the planet.

I also enjoy a third of Tokyo*, an extremely tasty 18% imperial stout from the local BrewDog bar(BrewDog brewery is also local, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland) as well as most of the beers they are brewing at the moment.

I ask of you, Escapist community, What is your favourite(s) beers at the moment?

Tsingtao and Estrella are both really nice beers. But I much prefer cider, any local stuff or anything that isn't mass produced is generally pretty good. Cheddar Valley cider is lethal, along with Cornish Rattler.

Root. I don't drink alcohol to begin with so this is really the only type of Beer I would indulge in and I know, it isn't really beer-beer but it's as close as I'm going to get to it. The only times I tried actual beer-beer it tasted bad enough to make me gag.

Seriously? I get ninja'd by the OP? In fairness, Hobgoblin is bloody nice. Well played sir.

My second favourite beer would have to be Newcastle Brown.

I don't drink beer, really.
When I do drink alcohol, I tend to go for whiskey, or other higher-alcohol-content drinks.

However, my mom's husband is really into beer and trying different ones, and I have occasionally tasted his stuff for curiosity's sake.
Some have been better than others.

I think my favourite was this very thick dark one that made me feel like I was drinking porridge.
I can see myself drinking that kind of stuff with dinner, but I tend to go with milk for that...

Typically I'll drink something fairly standard, like an Alexander Keith's IPA, just for your average night.

But I also developed a taste for German beer from a trip I took this summer. Its often sweeter and much smoother than north american beers. Particularly Erdinger, a wheat beer, is one I've been drinking fairly often, as its one of the few that seems easily available here in Canada.

Also, if you haven't tried Innis and Gunn before, you should.

So many choices! Cane and Abel (rye), Zombie Dust (pale), Osiris (IPA), La Folie (sour). Don't really care for stouts and porters; gotta be in the mood for them.

I'm not a huge ale drinker but Hobgoblin is definitely one of my favourites. Strong and smoky but still mild and refreshing enough to be pleasant. Good choice!

18%!?

Anyway, I'm generally a bit of a cider drinker but winter is drawing in and I'm tending to drink beers a bit more frequently now.

This cheeky little fellow is my usual pint (and I'm looking forward to putting a couple of these out of their misery tomorrow during the regular pub quiz). Flavoursome, substantial, refreshing without being watery or gassy like lager, my only criticism would be that they go down far too easy. Great stuff.

If push came to shove and I had to pick a lager, it'd be a nice Stella (insert wife-beater joke here). Other honourable mentions include Peroni and Amstel, which I'd probably drink more often if only they weren't so damn expensive.

And just to finish up with a bit of an oddball choice, these aren't the tough manly image you imagine when you hear "beer", but knock me sideways if they aren't deceptively delicious. These fruity little Polish fellows are quickly becoming one of my guilty pleasures (they come in Apple, Red and Sun flavours, whatever the hell those are). Completely bonkers but equally drinkable.

I've only ever had it once but I thoroughly enjoyed Rickard's Cardigan when I had it at the beginning of October. It tastes similar to Rickard's Red (already a fantastic beer) but with the addition of cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. It tastes like autumn in a cup.

There are quite a few pleasant continental lagers that are very enjoyable. Chilled of course, I'm not a monster. Carling, even when they brew it here it's still better than you. At least try to look like you're making an effort.

Aside from that, well I'm from Yorkshire so tend to drink epic local pales and bitters that you've never heard of. They call me Yorkshire Beer Hipster!

It would be this of course:

I first tasted this on Isla del Sol which is a small island in lake Titicaca. I don't know if it was because we had walked about 20km, with big ass heavy rucksacks the size of us all day, but it was the best beer I have ever tasted.

I've only recently started drinking so I'm far from an expert on beers, but I find myself really liking dark beers, particularly Guinness Stout.
