For me, Microprose would probably be one of the publishes that I could trust, back in the early 90s, to deliver on great games.

My two favourite PC games as a child were published by them;

Master of Magic: An epic turn-based strategy that is a mesh of fun Civilization-esque gameplay and fantasy. It was terribly addicting, even when I installed DOSbox a couple years ago to replay it.

Gunship 2000: This game I just remembered recently. My uncle really loved playing this game and I remember liking it a lot too. Being able to fly different helicopters around on different missions... Equip it with all types of armaments and work your way on getting promoted to unlock access to even more goodies... It was just a great game. In fact, it makes me surprised at how much content they were able to produce back in those days.

Bullfrog made one of my favourite games as a kid, too, and that is Syndicate. I had a ton of fun.

Honorable mention also has to go to Electronic Arts (Even though they don't really fit into the category), even with the ire as they've earned recently. Chuck Yeager's Air Combat (Yeah, I liked military sims as a kid, so what?) and Road Rash were two of my stand-bys as well.

What did everyone else like?

Bullfrog ftw. Syndicate Wars, Theme Hospital - I must have pumped solid months into those games when you tally up the hours.

I sucked at flying the helicopters so I never got into Gunship 2000 (I spent more time naming and picking emblems for my squadron than actually on missions) but I was a big fan of F-117A Stealth Fighter which came out around the same time. Never got to the rank of Colonel though, I'm convinced it's impossible to rank above Lt. Col. My sixth grade teacher claims he got there, but only posthumously.

Also, Sierra and Lucasarts back when they made adventure games. Space Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, The Dig... they speak for themselves really.

Bullfrog seconded.. Dungeon keeper were one of the games that defined pc gaming around that time for me and my freinds

Also codemasters were a fav. of mine right after they released Operation flashpoint, which is a game I still love to this day even though i can't really play it anymore

Sorry, but I haven't been gaming for that long... I suppose I could say Pandemic and Bioware, what with their acquisition by EA. RIP...

Shiny Entertainment. I mean...look at these, Earthworm Jim, MDK, Wild 9, Sacrifice!

Now...Enter the Matrix, The Matrix: Path of Neo, The Golden Compass *sigh*

Cry for Bullfrog, Black Isle, Sierra and all those too.
Actually, speaking of Black Isle...I have had rather fond memories of Interplay as both developer and publisher. They seem to being trying to get back up and running as of late. I hope this means a whole slew of new titles ^^

Volition. Man I miss Freespace. But most of all I miss never being able to complete it because of some stupid f***ing bug.
