It's always good to get a game started on the right track, Intros are great for introducing the player to the games story, and pull the player in.

For me, it's Fallout, the intro is the thing that has persuaded me to get the game (when I scrounge up £5 anyway); A great way to set up the games atmosphere

Gun had a good intro, the music was very cool. It probably helps that when I was doing a kayaking trip down a river I had the intro music stuck in my head, it was awesome.

Second on half-life.

I always like the games where you start off on a normal day then everything goes to hell.

Now that I have come to see the Ninja Gaiden 2 intro in a new light [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_166/5231-Beat-Your-Game-to-Death] I have got to go for that one.

Even though I like Half-Life 2 more than Half-Life 1, I have to agree about the intro. Prey has a fairly similar opening; everyday stuff for a while until aliens attack; and you get to toy around with some arcade machines.

For me, what clinched it in both the Half-Life games was how the opening credits appear at a time when you're in control of your character. Somehow, that just makes it feel more like a movie or something to me.

BioShock, far and away, my all-time favorite. But you know, the first bit of Prey was actually really good, too. Better than the rest of the game turned out to be, sadly, but that alien ship sucking up the bar was pretty damn cool.

Usually when asked about my favourite in these types of thread I can't decide on just one & list a few, but this thread is easy.

Paris attack [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WdvfQFgFyk] as part of the introduction.

Half Life 1 and 2. Also, I loved the intro to Call of Duty 4, the ship level. I *didn't* like the intro dungeon from Oblivion, and the fact that you have to do it every time. It's boring (except for the goblin bit). Just throw us up in the world already.

*edit* I see you mean like intro movies, as oppose to opening playing sections. To be honest, these days they seem to be nothing but trailers for the game stuck before them. Let me get back to you if I remember a good one.

The Libari Fatali intro to FF8 was rather well done, possibly one of my favorite intros ever.

Quoted for agreement. I think that FF8 had an incredibly fascinating intro, and the song is one of my favourites.

As for my contribution to the thread, I'll say Kingdom Hearts 1 and FFX. It confused the hell out of me, but the song was so beautiful and everything worked in a very disjointed way. I played this and FFX at around the same time, and the beginning there with Tidus and the Blitzball game was very entertaining, plus Batman Auron had a spiffy as hell entrance there, and he's made of badass win.

And I'm stickin' to it.

Bioshock, HL2 have my vote, if we're lucky fallout3 will have something exceptional although that might just be me hoping.

Sins wasn't too bad although there is 0 actaul story line after you get past the intro screen

For me it definitely has to be Soul Calibur 2 intro with the music Under the Star of Destiny setting the dramatic atmosphere, with the heroes fighting and drawing together for an epic battle, it's a lot more than just an intro it's a cinematic masterpiece.
