Gun had a good intro, the music was very cool. It probably helps that when I was doing a kayaking trip down a river I had the intro music stuck in my head, it was awesome.
Oh so true

Bioshock. Everything about it is so well done, right down to the shiny logo rusting away as the water pours over it.

Honourable mention to Warcraft III

Bioshock definitely sticks in my mind as a truly great intro scene, really setting the scene and giving off the great atmosphere that kept up in that game.

And i love the intro to ape escape.

Second on half-life.

I always like the games where you start off on a normal day then everything goes to hell.
Wouldn't that be the first? The second you're confused and lost in some crazy place, the first your riding your tram to work(from work), get changed, start doing stuff, AND SHIT STARTS BLOWING UP!

I always liked Half-Life, Blue Shift, Opposing Force, and the Fallout Openings. Fallout's were nice and different, and the Half-Lives set up the theme, though it wasn't surprising by the second expansion.

For some reason I've always had the intro cinematic from the first Ghost Recon game for Gamecube (don't even ask) stuck in my head as great. The problem is I could never find it anywhere on line, just the ones for the other versions. Even once when my OCD compelled me to search for it for like 3 hours. Nada. I was at the point of digging out my old gamecube (again, don't even ask) which I don't think I ever got rid of (I SAID DON'T ASK). But I got control of myself and had to live without.

It was pretty sick though. I think. Hell, I don't remember. It was so long ago it took place in 2008 and it seemed like a long time in the future. And for the record the only reason I never got rid of the gamecube was because I was too lazy so I threw it in the attick or a closet or somewhere.

I have often been disapointed with games with over the top intros.
High res. Onimusha intros were pretty impressive at the time though. All of the Onimushas.
And they also happened to be pretty good games. No masterpieces, but honorable.
Yes I remember the Onimushia 3 intro being particularly kick ass, where they guy takes on a small army inside some kind of giant insect fortress, then after kicking the ass of pretty much everyone in there he drops a tank of goo into the giant insets brain making it explode. Awesome.

the best thing about Onimusha 3's intro is it marked the official return of Samanosuke, in a half flip where his ninja mask is removed by a thrown spear iirc

and he uses all the charge moves from Onimusha 1

it just made me happy to watch it.

Then the next onimusha just crapped all over it.

My all time favorite game intro has got to be SSX Tricky.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2draUqybzg

It highlights all the best stuff about the game: The speed, the over-the-top tricks, the fact that if you don't like who's coming up behind you, you can slug 'em one and get 'em off your tail. Also, I really like how Eddie becomes part of the logo at the end. It's the little things in life, you know?

Dawn of War for being full of space marine awesomeness is an honourable mention.

Winner for me is Mario 64. (Eyeballs through the forehead ftw)
