Oddly that's classed as a comedy. Will Shakes must have had a dark sense of humour...
Err, its definitely a tragedy. A comedy in Elizebethan/Jacobean times, while not having to be exactly funny, at least had to have a happy ending (usually a marriage). Not two families looking awkwardly at the bodies of a pair of lovers. The families resolve their differences, but that still doesn't make it constitute a happy ending.
I know, it seems weird but that's what I was taught. Will wrote comedies, tragedies and histories and for a reason I forget this one is classed as a comedy...even though it seems a lot more like a tragedy.

Why didn't you use the other guy's thing instead of making me look like I don't know what im talking about?
Sorry bout that. Edited now.

And Romeo and Juliet is not a comedy. It contains elements of comedy, particularly in the beggining but its not one.

My favourite play is probably the "Importance Of Being Earnest"

Well, it would probably have to be Waiting for Godot. Not many folks agree with me, but I found it funny. And I really don't normally like plays.

It's probably between Pippin and Avenue Q. I absolutely adore the choreography and music from the Ben Vereen/William Katt version of Pippin, but Avenue Q is brilliant written and uproariously funny. Can't really pick between the two.

Hmm... I'm gonna go with Frank Wedekind's Spring Awakening [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Awakening_(play)]. It's a play about adolescence. It's dark and sexual and truthful and funny. Great stuff.

I've heard the adaption of it currently on Broadway (a rock musical) waters it down, though; in particular, they de-emphasize Moritz, who is kinda the linchpin of the story. The songs themselves channel some of the emotions well, though.

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Some really great songs and of course the famous "Both Sides of the Coin". I love it. And you vote on how the play ends! What isn't there to like?

Fun play to watch, amazingly fun to perform.

A few of my drama class are going to see Wicked in London today.
I don't mind, it means I got free periods, and I might be seeing it next year anyway :)

I have a fondness for Shakespeare, my favourites being Much Ado About Nothing, and King Lear. Both are marvellous, and it's always good to see a celebrated Thespian every so often.

Bell Shakespeares production of Macbeth was awesome.
I grew up loving the film version of Cats and listening to the old vinyl records.
And Vincent in Brixton was excellent. I saw it in year 8. It's about Vincent Van Gogh before he went loopy.

Macbeth - plenty of death, madness and evil.
Shakespeare is pretty awesome IMO. But my favourite is probably Hamlet. Even though he is very whiny at times, I still enjoyed it more than Macbeth, and waaay more than Romeo and Juliet.
Same here. Often I don't enjoy Shakespearean plays unless I've studied them beforehand because I find the language too hard to follow. However, I've read Hamlet so many times I could probably recite the whole thing from memory by now so I rather enjoy that because I can take in the actors' and the director's own take on it.

The Lion King definitely. Went to see it in London while on a school exchange program 5 years back. Best I have ever seen in a theatre.

Although that's not much to go by since it's one of the only things I ever saw in a theatre.

Like others have said:

-Hamlet
-Music Man
-Fiddler on the Roof
-Cyrano de Bergerac
-Pygmalion (or, if you've seen the version with music, 'My Fair Lady')
-The Mikado (technically an operetta, but still...)
-H.M.S. Pinafore (again, operetta, but who cares? It's awesome!)
-A Midsummer Night's Dream

Noises Off. It's about a Play that goes COMPLETELY and UTTERLY Wrong during it's run.

First act sets up how the play SHOULD go
Second act shows the degeneration backstage (completely quiet while the "play" is going on on the "front" side of the set. The entire set is on a turntable to turn it around.)
Third act is just a Clusterfuck all around.

Favorite line is
Director: And God said, Where the hell is Tim! (Tim appears on stage) and there the hell was tim, and god says let there be doors that open when they open and close when they close.

Out of all the plays I've seen or read, I have to say Waiting for Godot at the top, Macbeth, then The Importance of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde). Godot and Earnest are really funny, and I like Shakespeare.

Can we just clarify that Play's and Musical's are NOT the same thing.

As a drama student, I think you just killed a little part of me.

Best PLAY: War Horse
Best MUSICAL: WICKED or Les Miserables.
