Mike Portnoy
Martin Lopez

I anticipate that I'll like Peart once I get around to listening to any real quantities of Rush, though.

Keith Moon of the Who. Just insane, both in ability and character.
Sorry to tell you man but he didnt actually play, he faked it!
Keith Moon did not fake his drumming. Just because you probably can't pass Won't Get Fooled Again on Rock Band doesn't mean you go around starting rumours like that. It's just like people who diss Dragonforce. Keith Moon is the best.
THANK YOU.
The rumour that Dragonforce don't play their own music is bullshit. They played *one* bad show, cause the equipment malfunctioned and it all just went to hell. I still love 'em, though.

Richard Christy who would be recognized as the drummer from the last Death album 'Sound of Perserverance', Control Denied and Charred Walls of the Damned.

I think drummers are one of the most underrated musicians in any band (speaking as one), especially because they're the butt of endless jokes and very few people appreciate the work they do-it's the most exhausting instrument in the usual band line-up. But, anyway. Who's your favourite drummer? Mine would have to be Dave Lombardo (Slayer/Fantomas) or Brann Dailor (Mastodon), Dave because he was so extreme at the time when Slayer came out and because of his sheer power and speed, even though he's in the tail-end of his 40's now he's still playing his ass off. And as for Brann? Just listen to Mastodon will you? His fills and rolls are absolutely mind-melting, and most of his rhythms are as complicated as most drummer's fills.
Hey a drummer who likes metal and Dave Lombardo! Thought I was the only one around >.>. Aside from Lombardo I'm also a fan of Nick McBrain(Iron Maiden) and Mike Portnoy(Dream Theatre)

Gotta be tre cool!
I was tempted to agree with you but...I feel Green Day is really just "Billie Joe Armstrong and two others" a bit too often, and though he does some good drum work on the new album (referring mostly to Viva La Gloria!) his other contributions tend to blur slightly into the background.

I'm going to say John Dolmayan because his percussion work often forms a good basis for System of a Down's songs.

Disclaimer: I am not a drum expert. Please do not interpret me seriously.

Awesome indeed. As soon as I get a double bass pedal I'm gonna try and figure out some Slayer songs. I still can't figure out the rhythm to the opening to Raining Blood...is that bad?

Travis Smith from Trivium, the Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, or Matt Nicholls from Bring Me The Horizon
Sorry for the double post (and you probably know this) but did you hear that the Rev died just recently? I was shocked when I heard it, he was way too young to leave this world. He was a damn good drummer too.

Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden. Kicks into his first album with the band gloriously with the intro on Where Eagles Dare

Well, Keith Moon is by far my favourite. His fills are simply amazing, and The Who really hasn't been the same without him (The same can also be said of Entwistle, but that's a completely different instrument.)

I am highly disappointed that nobody has mentioned John Bonham yet. He is the only drummer I would ever compare to Keith Moon, and a very, very close second in my book.

It was drugs, I think. So it was his own fault, in my opinion.
