Levin from La'Cryma Cristi. (Japanese rock band).
Speaking of Japanese rock bands. Nao Kawakita of Maximum the Hormone. I don't know much about drumwork, but she does vocals and she's female. What more could you ask for?

This is a good question. I'm stuck on Matt McDonough (MudVayne), Andols Herrick (Chimaira), Joey Jordison (Slipknot) and Mike Wengren (Disturbed). As my favorite, I would probably say Matt because Mudvayne was the first band where I really listened to the drumming and his style really got me interested in drumming (though I have yet to find a drum kit). I'm still fans of the others for their own reasons, like Alders for solos and balancing drumrolls with erratic cyms, for example.

Inferno of Behemoth.
Richard Christy of Death, and Gene Hoglan when he was in Death.
Kai Hahto of Wintersun (I haven't gotten around to listening to his other stuff yet).
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater.

I'm currently learning Crystal Mountain by Death and Flag in the Ground by Sonata Arctica.

Neil Purt of Rush and the guy from Def Leppard i cant remember his name. He has one arm and can still play drums pretty good. Then Dave Grohl when he play in Nirvanna.
I don't even have to write anything, I can just point at this thread and say pretty much that.

i have a couple

dave grohl-he is so much better at the drums then he is at guitar and singing. he just hits them so damn hard.

nicholas barker-aside from being an insane drummer, it was hilarious when he was in dimmu borgir and the band line up had names like silenoz and shagrath next to nicholas.

keith moon-what can i really say about him. he's the best.

danny carey-amazing drummer for an amazing band

matt cameron-i like his work with pearl jam more then soundgarden. and the mattcam was reall interesting.

Since the Primus, Tool, and Strapping Young lad drummers have already been mentioned, I'll nominate
Thomas Haake, from Meshuggah (seriously look up videos of him he looks like he's having a seizure!) and
Nicholas Barker from Dimmu Borgir (listen to the album Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia)
Plus a couple months ago Peelander-Z and The Birthday Suits played in my hometown and ended the show by piling all their drums in the middle of the dance floor and having a drum solo-off for like fifteen minutes, it was soooooo awesome!

I don't care what you think, Lars Ulrich is cool!
In a snobby, and strange kind of way.

Also, Frost of Satyricon and Hellhammer (Mayhem, Dimmu borgir)

Richard Christy who would be recognized as the drummer from the last Death album 'Sound of Perserverance', Control Denied and Charred Walls of the Damned.
Yay another Death fan.

I'm gonna say Alex Van Halen.

...now just stick with me here. I'm sure there are awesomer drummers out there but Alex was the first drummer I can remember seeing with a double-bass setup. Plus he had the hugest, wildest drumkit I'd ever seen, more massive than I could imagine (and certainly more massive than I could imagine actually playing.)

Yeah, his live run with Dethklok is pretty fuckin' brutal. Considering Brendon does all the music on the TV show himself but the drums (which he does electronically) it's amazing to hear/see a human match (or even surpass!) the speed and power Brendon's drum machine spits out.
Gene Hoglan in Fear Factory is pretty awesome.

OT - Inferno. He is just so fucking fast on his drums. He never stops it is so awesome.

Helhammer (Mayhem, Arcturus) is pretty fucking sick too!

I get why some people don't like him because of the Napster thing, but that was 7 (?) years ago now.
But seeing as he's my favourite of the 3 drummers I actually know by name, I'ma vote for Lars.

It was not about money. They have always let fans take pictures, tape concerts and release bootlegs.

It was about control. They felt uncomfortable about not being in control of their music.

Nicko McBrain, Scott Travis, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Les Binks, Hellhammer.... probably a few I've forgotten but the above are all fantastic drummers.

As an addition anyone to who says Lars Ulrich or Joey Jordison - their playing is sloppy at best in my opinion.
