I'm including both RTS and RTT games here, if you care to make the distinction. So what's your favourite campaign in one of these such games?

I just finished the World In Conflict campaign (including the expansion, which plays out as part of the same campaign) for the first time, and I must say that it was a hell of a lot of fun the whole way through. You'd be hard pressed finding a better looking or more action-packed campaign in an RTS game. The reinforcements system and at times abundance of air support are a little odd at first, but they serve their purpose, which is to keep the game as entertaining as possible. It even had a pretty good story going and solid voice acting. It's definitely moved up near the top of my list.

But I'm sure you'll try to tell me that there are bigger/better/prettier campaigns going around. So let me know what your favourites are.

I agree with you on World in Conflict.

That gave me some of the most tense gameplay from any game I've ever played.
The timers are perfect, as is the mechanics.

Every level of the main story, had me hooked.

Especially when Bannon did his thing...
A game that actually made me go quiet after a cut scene...

hmm. Most RTS campaigns are absolute crap.
I determine quality not only by story, but by the variety in mission objectives and special conditions, so I'm going to have to give this award to Starcraft 2 for having good mission variety, and having the single-player content still be worth $60.
(Plus I loved the point & click adventure game that was the ship, that was a neat idea to let players mess around before advancing)

Now I want to go play it!

Shogun 2: Total War: Main Campaign.

The encounters are different everytime you play through the campaign, the battles are fantastic and there's no silly cliffhanger forcing you to buy the sequel. :)

Good, someone else mentioned the total war series. I second that. And since pandora's box is now open I will also throw Civilization 3 Call to Power's hat in the ring.

Difficult one. I'm gonna say, simply upon the number of times I replayed it, the Barbarossa campaign in AoE2, followed by the fun I've had with the Allied campaign in C&C: Red Alert 3.

I gotta give big points to WC3 simply for how big and expansive it is. An excellent campaign, rich in cutscenes and characters.

However my personal favourite I must declare to be Stronghold.

It was one of the first RTS games I've ever played, and the only one I've played that put more than a piss-weak effort into siege warfare.

When I took The Pig's castle, I felt like an incredible bad-ass. Arrows & crossbow bolts raining down, burning pitch traps set alight, my men fought onwards through the smoke; inch by bloody inch I took that castle from his greasy fat hands.

Truly a great game, and I loved the campaign, despite its simplicity.

World in Conflict was really great, I'd love a sequel. Company of Heroes had a lot of good missions, especially the British campaign in Opposing Fronts. And I like that you got to do a campaign as the Germans, so many WWII games overlook playing as the Wehrmacht.

Warcraft 3 and the first Starcraft are my favourite Blizzard games.

The first Red Alert! Awesome story, Einstein goes back in time and assassinates Hitler? Yes please!

Starcraft 2 did have great mission variety, but it was ruined for me by the fact that it would basically introduce a new unit, then you built a billion of that one guy and you'd basically win. The latter levels were more fun for the sole fact that you had the whole army at your disposal by then.

But yeah, I recently replayed World In conflict as well and it really is excellent. Love the tension and sense of urgency in the last mission, and the characters were likeable, even though Bannon was the only one that really got an arc.

Dungeon Keeper counts as an RTS, right?

If so, that for sure. The campaign continuously adds new features and rooms, almost acting like an extended tutorial, yet it's also incredibly fun. Plus it was a pretty original concept and style of game-play when it came out, though its success has caused a couple of games to copy it since (not that that's a bad thing, Evil Genius and Startopia for example are great).

Warcraft 2, mainly the orc campaign in Through the Dark Portal. My second favourite game of all time, it really shaped my childhood.

The Warcraft 3 (including the expansion) campaign. One of the best stories ever told in a videogame.
Is it really that good? Does it start off really slow?

I tried to get into it earlier this year, but I didn't get past the third mission or something. And this was after playing through Warcraft 2 for the first time in a decade and really enjoying it.

The next one I play will probably be Homeworld. I'm hoping it's as good as people say.
