I've really started liking Dawn of War 2:s soundtrack lately, especially the Eldar themes are pretty damn cool. Almost makes me want to play as the Eldar. Almost.
No, I can't call any soundtrack my favourite one.

Mass Effect (especially "Main Theme" and "Vigil" from ME1, "The Normandy Reborn" from ME2 and "A Future for the Krogan", "Stand Strong, Stand Together", "I was lost without you", "The Fleets Arrive", "We Face Our Enemy Together" and "An End Once And For All" from ME3)

Star Wars (in most incarnations, anyway. Special mention goes to TIE Fighter, where they took the Imperial March and made it sound awesome and heroic and SW:TOR, where they took pre-existing leitmotifs, rewrote them into musical themes for all of the player classes and play it everytime your character does something awesome)

and various other, examples:

Hello Zepp (Saw)
Still Alive/Want you gone (Portal and Portal 2, respectively)
Born To Darkness, Part I (Interview With The Vampire)
Fire and Regeneration (Heroes)
City of Night (Cyberpunk 2077)
The Medaillon Calls/Will and Elizabeth/Barbossa is Hungry (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Ezio's Family (Assassin's Creed II)

I really like new vegas's, as well as the final fantasy circa VII-X. Zanarkand from 10 is one of my favourite pieces of music - played here by a full orchestra it's awesome.

For films, I'm a little bit shocked no one has said Drive yet. The soundtrack to that film is stunning. Also honourable mentions to Disney films, my favourite OST would probably have to be Toy Story's.

Hmm... regarding games, my top picks would be:

Mega Man 3 (NES)
Castlevania (NES) actually, make that Castlevania Judgement on the Wii.
Super Metroid (SNES)
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)

It's probably mostly nostalgia but the Morrowind theme still gives me some chills, no matter how short it may be.

Mass Effect also deserves a mention.

I was going to mention Drive. That soundtrack was so integral to the film, it was really great.

I'll go with Up. I loved the music in that film, it was happy, sad, adventurous, mischievous - absolutely wonderful.

I'm not a huge Soundtrack person but I do love the one for Watchmen, althought I don't know if that counts because it's a collection of songs I already loved.

Other than that, the Chicago soundtrack is probably the one I listen to the most, it's fucking awesome.

I'm gonna go with the Medievil game, it's gothic music style just blows me away, I've posted this plenty of times before and I doubt it will ever stop amazing me. Here is my personal favourite of the games music.

It fits so well with the gameplay.

Practically the entire Persona 4 soundtrack. It's so freaking good. It has one of the best openings ever.

It also holds the prize for best looking main menu.

The entire soundtrack to Skullgirls was awesome... Each stage had its own soundtrack and they were all amazing. Though I had to pick the final boss stage whenever I could because it looks so cool and has the best music.

Too bad that game is deader than dead online, I don't care how many people say "oh everyone is waiting for this mystical patch that will bring everyone back" no, I can't believe that. There would be somebody, ANYBODY still playing online if that was the case.

Red vs Blue season 10's soundtrack was balls-out amazing. There wasn't a single piece of music I didn't like, and since each song was tailor made for the scene it was featured in, it all just synced so perfectly. Jeff Williams deserves SOME kind of award for that stuff, I mean come on!

It has tracks that make your blood rush:

To songs that make you want to cry:

It's been quite some time since a soundtrack has affected me so much. Hell, I don't think I've liked one this much since FFVII.

Too many damn movies and it's too damn early for me to think much about this, so I'm just going to do games, and I'm just going to do one, and it'll be old:

Mechwarrior 2. The music made that game. Clearly someone agreed because the guy who did it went from doing some office work around the studio to making soundtracks as a career, just based on that one game.

This one makes me shiver:

I think people are quoting one song, where I understood the question asked for a soundtrack where every song held the line and was decent.
For games, my favourite original soundtrack is probably Mass Effect 3 (or possibly Skyrim). For unoriginal, definitely a Fallout. While I thought 3 set the scene better, New Vegas probably had more interesting songs.
For films, best original soundtrack I'll have to be unoriginal and say a Lord of the Rings. For unoriginal, probably Wayne's World :D

Seems to me like people are just posting examples, since putting an entire soundtrack on here would probably be annoying. That's what I was doing anyway.

Also, I kind of agree with you on "Fallout", if you're referring to the game that's actually called "Fallout".

Whilst watching the film, I'd have agreed, it works impeccably within the film itself. I then got the album afterwards, and the majority is unlistenable outside of the movie, apart from the particularly Daft Punk-esque few (I think Derezzed was the best as a stand alone song). But, a similar sounding soundtrack that nailed the electronic/classical/ambient vibe was Deus Ex: Human Revolution. That is inredible both inside and outside of the game.

As mentioned, anything by Zimmer is great, with the OST to The Last Samurai being my favourite. But if I had to choose an all-time favourite soundtrack, for both innovation and listenability, I'd have to say Sucker Punch. The soundtrack made the film! They may all be covers, but they genuinely reinvent and in many cases improve the originals.

Mine would be the soundtrack to the .Hack Sign series. Not Roots (Though it's in the top 10). It was probably the first collection of music that broke me out of just Classic Rock era stuff. (60's, 70's, 80's) stuff, multiple genres though, but I consider them an era and not just their own types really.

while I find "Zimmer" style big orchastral soundtracks nice and all once you hear one rousing orchastral peice they get a bit...predictable (I do however love the dark knights OST)

thats why I like taratino films and enniomorricone...recently watched Django unchained which had a great soundtrack
Yeah that was a great soundtrack, it even managed to make Rick Ross good. Loved the tupac at the end.

Lord of the rings is a classic soundtrack, as well as the flight of the conchords version

("I dont rap about bitches and hos, i rap about witches and trolls" solid gold)

Can't believe no one has mentioned this one before.. Bar none the greatest and most emotionally charged OST is that of Shadow of the Colossus. Keep in mind, this music is used for a f***ing GAME.
