Britain has some amazing rock bands, both past and present. Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Muse, Snow Patrol, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Queen, just for a start. (Although, yes, Freddie Mercury was from the colonies)
We had some great things going for us - dogged resistance in the face of fascism, both against the Nazis and against our own National Front. A great stoic national personality, able to take (and complain incessantly about) damn near everything.
But since Thatcher we've had the soul stripped out of the country. Our politicians are corrupt and even in the midst of the expenses scandal they still try to find the way out that keeps ol' Gordon at the top. The one good thing our government has done in this regard is the Freedom of Information act, and that was designed so we could slag off the Tories. And they, after introducing it, fought for years to prevent us from actually exposing any of their faults. Lucky for us our judges aren't always to be intimidated.
Our government continues (probably not now the expenses scandal's erupted) to introduce legislation for "national security" and then uses it for the least appropriate things - for example, as already mentionned, to rape Iceland after their banks failed.
And our people aren't necessarily anything to be proud of any more. We have a hell of a lot of chavs, as well as the BNP and all its friends. After decades of fighting fascism, it's starting to creep in. They have a right to exist and speak, but it's sad that so many listen to them.
Ugh, sorry, I want to move to Sweden.
That said, I don't think I'd be able to go anywhere else and be able to rely on getting a decent cup of tea. I mean, seriously.
