Even though they did the Malcom in the Middle theme, They Might Be Giants doesn't seem to have that big of a fandom.
Fine, being in two Tiny Toons Adventures shorts kills off claims to obscurity, but most people I know don't know who they are.

Avenue Q. The only people I know who have heard of it are the drama buffs at my school. Their songs are either incredibly funny OR are just good listening. (It's a musical)

The mighty Boosh on BBCK no one in my town seem to know about it except me and a small circle of friends. Someone on here obviously knows about it though...

Desandnate on youtube, nobody knows who they are. yes that's nerdy.
Swallow The Sun and From First To Last are bands that I have heard of, and the only other people I know who know them are people I've told. Nobody else.

Whataburger is a fast food chain down here in Texas, and it's simply amazing. Then I realized it's only in Texas and I knew the rest of the planet was being screwed.

I've never met anyone in real life who knows the author Phillip K Dick, although I suspect here on the gaming interwebz there may be quite a few fans.

He's a science fiction author from the 60's 70's, wrote novels like A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (later made into the movie Blade Runner), and my all time favorite, The Man in the High Castle.

Somehow despite having a lot of books made into movies he's slipped through the net of public conciousness. I owned Minority Report on DVD for two years myself before I realised it was based on a book.

And I would like to confirm that Powerman 5000 are awesome if you like that sort of thing. If you like Powerman 5000 I recommend looking up Jerk, another great band that no one has heard of because A) they're Australian and B) they broke up after a really short time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7cmpYSy8JY Here's a clip

Edit: Actually, speaking of great music that no-one outside of Australia has probably heard of, here are two awesome artists I'm into right now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k35b7M-BtYI&feature=related The Grates, happy alternative rock band

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWOEKiz79Ks Bertie Blackman, grungy alternative rock.

Oh! and this guy!

I'm assuming Ganter Wodan doppelbock can qualify as something no one's heard of in The Escapist circles? Because it's either that or hefeweizen (which I'm told is gaining traction in North America).

Most people (Or "cool" people, rather) Have at least heard of Peaches and Lump, but outside of that they are pretty obscure.

OT: I loved the "Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppets" shorts by Michael Gagne. They were these little shorts that Nickelodeon aired during commercials around Halloween 2005. I'm sure most of you have heard of them through the recently announced Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet game Gagne's making.
