"I once killed a hundred knights single-handedly...to me, you two are nothing more than insects."
?Beatrix (Final Fantasy 9)

Yeah she was the first thing that I thought of when I read the title. The very few battles where you get to have her in your party are the best fights in the game. I've always liked characters who are torn between doing their duty and doing what is right and Beatrix is a great example of this, when you first see her she is steadfast in serving Queen and country and over the course of the game her actions(and attitude to Zidane and co) changes but still remains loyal. Oh and then there is the whole Steiner romance which still makes me laugh to this day.

I'll stop there, I could write an essay on how much Beatrix is a kickass character.

Zoë Castillo from The Dreamfall, aka The Longest Journey 2.
She's like... i dunno, i think she's simply very close to real person in terms of what she does, what she speaks and when...

Lilith from Borderlands...

A close second would be Judy Nails from GuitarHero2.
How...

I couldn't stand Lilith. I'm playing through with her for the first time now with a couple friends (I was playing just an hour ago) and none of us can stand her lines. (If anyone knows how to remove her voice files, can you tell me?)
Hehe, I thought someone might say that. Really I like her from a distance, I always play the sniper dude, so I don't play as her so am not as annoyed at her. I just think she's a pretty strong character, compared to a lot of female RPG characters.

Hmmmm.... maybe I'll change that to Aela the Hunter from Skyrim, she's pretty cool.

Well, there are rather a lot to choose from but I will have to say that there is one character who makes me smile when she turns up, no matter how many times I play the game in question.
With her simple, light and cheery voice saying.

..Imoen.

Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2, Tali'Zora vas Neema nar Rayya from Mass Effect, Imoen from Baldur's Gate and Samus Aran from Metroid. On a related note I do not know what this Other M you speak of is, but it sounds disappointing.

Honestly, I've always found the (to quote a song) "beautifully broken" ones most intriguing... in video games as in life, I suppose. Rarely has a story produced two better examples than Terra and Celes from Final Fantasy 6. Intimacy issues abound with both, but given circumstances, I'd say it's understandable (and it's not like any character outside of pure comic relief doesn't have their share of personal demons in that story).

Funny little aside... I recently did an odd little tribute playthrough of Icewind Dale with them remade in D&D 2.0 (not that they fit the archetypes available very well, what with the separation of arcane and divine magic in D&D... but I digress).

^primary blaster and backup healer^

^off-tank and off-blaster^

...and yes, I made a bit of a main character (if there is such a thing in VI) IV/VI roundup party... but only because I couldn't make Sabin the monk-tank in a 2.0 Infinity Engine game.
Man, but I did a lot of editing to make my clerics able to use pointy things... Terra without a sword or Rosa without a bow? Not in my hack-job.

I'm not even a big Mass Effect fan, but Miranda was pretty hot

Unfortunately I hated her personality, so I'm going to have to go with Kate Walker from Syberia. She's not that attractive though.

So.......If I could put Kate Walker or Grace Nakamura's personality on Amanda from Jack Keane's body, I would be swooning.

Also, they're too cartoony to consider as anything near realistic, but I really like the old Japanese female RPG characters, like from Shining Force:

I know, it's stupid but they're always really sweet and would be my ideal girl if they bore even the slightest resemblance to what girls are actually like in real life. Which, I guess, is why they're 'ideal'.

April Ryan? She's the first character who actually, genuinely felt like a 19-20 years old girl. I was immersed in that game mostly because of her and how natural her reactions were.
Wasn't she a lesbian, though? I'm pretty sure she was.

Had to think about this one for a while. I think I'll go with Tali (Mass Effect). Badass, bloody brilliant, absolutely adorable, snarky, loyal, heroic, managing to be tough but still sweet and entirely non-bitchy (something very few game writers seem to be able to pull off)...
The only problem with her is the other fans. A lot of Tali fanboys are seriously creepy.

Though Morrowind's Ahnassi was also a serious contender. And Femshep, Liara... really every female character from Mass Effect except Miranda. And there were several really good ones in Vampire: the Masquerade. And New Vegas' Veronica. And Katt from Breath of Fire. And Chell. And Elaine from the Monkey Island series (and Morgan Le'Flay from the new Tales series). And Triss and Shani from The Witcher. Neeshka and maybe Quara from NWN2.

Hmmm I guess mine's a toss up between Alyx Vance, Sylvannas Windrunner and Jaina Proudmoore.

In terms of personality:
Elaine Marley from The secret of Monkey Island 1&2. Love her.
Alyx Vance.
Samus Aran, or I did until she HAD a personality. She was more expressive behind a damn mask than the fucking 1950's housewife demeanour she took in Other M.

In terms of attractiveness:
Umm...
That girl from Guitar Hero 2, and Lilith from Borderlands.

ALSO: I'ma make a counterpart to this thread about guys. SO NOONE ELSE DO IT WHILE I'M TYPING THIS, DAMMIT!
