I?m sure you all know about the mistakes Xbox has made over their release, and of course the gamers have strong opinions about this and probably so do you. But we will get to that part of this article later. If you haven?t heard let me tell you.

It all started when the Xbox one was revealed it had a lot of D.R.M.s or Digital Right Managements such as you have to connect to the internet every 24 hours, the game can only be traded to a friend once meaning he cannot sell it to a local game retailer and lots of other D.R.M.s was included. Of course that caused a lot of hate for Xbox.

The gamers were very angry with these D.R.M.s and fought back. Xbox one was also hated on by their rival Play-station. ?how did Play-station hate on Xbox one?? You ask Play-station released a video on the internet explaining how to trade your video games on the Play-station 4 showing that all you had to do was hand your game to your friend. So in response Xbox reversed their D.R.M.s.

So here comes the question what do you think about Xbox making all these D.R.M.s and then reversing them for a lot of reasons leave your answer in the comment section.

I hope Microsofts gaming devision crumbles . Because i'm afraid what microsoft would do if it had even MORE power . They are anti-consumer at it's best . That being said , i would have had more respect for them if they stuck to their guns ,as it stands now , no one has any idea what this machine would do and is capable of .

I'm definately not touching it with a 10 foot pole someone else is holding .

I'm getting little tired of writing effectively the same post so I am just going to quote myself :p

Anthony Corrigan said:
Sorry I disagree, they aren't handling any of this properly, they are acting like at best a used car sales person throwing in "extras" to get a sale and at worst spoilt children. They are acting like they are in the right and we are being overly demanding. That's not how you deal with a mistake, you don't come out and say if you don't like it "just deal with it", you don't ***** and moan and fight every step of the way

You come out and admit the problem AND APOLOGIZE. I don't care how right you think you are your wrong because your not producing what the customer wants to buy so you say "I AM SORRY"

You then FIX the mistake

You then give something extra as a present to make up for it and restore good will

Sony actually did this quite well when they got hacked, they followed everyone of those steps

Microsoft on the other hand hasn't even got to the apology so its no wonder customers are still angry, they have had to fight every step of the way and Microsoft still hasn't gotten rid of the Kinect requirement. So they haven't rectified all of the mistakes, they haven't apologized and they haven't gone anyway towards making it up to people so why should customers flock back to them? why shouldn't people still be pissed off?
That's not even to touch on the distrust people have over them, if they could change it away from these whats to say that in 6 months they couldn't reverse it again?

Slight inaccuracy in the idea that it all started with the DRM announcement, because while things certainly went 'Boom' at that point, there were discontent rumblings long before. Let's run through the list of mistakes.

First, they spent a bulk of the reveal, which is supposed to be the first view anyone has of their console, going on and on about the non-gaming features of their system; the fact that the only non-media people watching the announcements of a new iteration in a line of game consoles are themselves gamers, it makes it abundantly clear the reveal was for the press specifically... or, rather, for the wider market. They basically wanted to scream; "Look! It's not just a silly game console anymore! It does things! Cooler things! Everybody spend monies!" For gamers who were watching the live feeds for any hints of gaming goodness, they were left waiting until quiiite a ways in, and came from the reveal decidedly irked.

Second, the very target market, as has been pointed out by Jimquisition, seemed to have been those with strong internet connections, suggesting both moderate disposable income, and a convenient placement near Internet infrastructure... failing to realize that many individuals with enough financial/'plugged in' capabilities will likely own devices that are already more convenient and more capable at many of the X1's ancillary functions. Skype isn't as exciting if you own a smartphone (or even an iPod Touch) that can complete the same task, only more portable, and without needing Gold. Additionally, because many of the functions Microsoft has been stressing, like TV, will only function in the U.S. at launch, they basically ended up throwing themselves on their own swords, even in the 21 countries the console would be available in. This will apply to certain aspects of PS4 as well, but at least Sony knows not to spent an hour yammering about Netflix access.

Third, their PR presentation was so arrogant and wholly imbecilic that they actually succeeded, against all odds, of alienating elements of their original fanbase, elements who actually COULD have used all of the X1's functions at launch! Even after they reversed the DRM, they continued to spout the same cheery, oblivious PR #*$&#@, pretending that everyone was actually thrilled with what they were GOING to do, and Microsoft was simply being kind enough to respond to a few fleeting suggestions from people who were buying the console anyway... as opposed to changing it because loads of people were flat-out jumping ship.

Fourth, they've used a shroud of secrecy that has only allowed the most negative theories to fester; by cancelling numerous press conferences and interviews over the past month and a half, they've provided precious little solid data, which makes the consumer base sour to their product more and more.

Fifth, although their (currently revealed) lineup of exclusive titles is better than Sony's, if you only count the titles not available anywhere else, the PS4's upcoming range of free to play PC ports, free indie titles for PS+ users, puts Microsoft pretty far behind... especially given one of their crown jewels, Titanfall, will be available to both PC and Xbox 360, with hints that the Microsoft exclusivity is a timed deal only.

Sixth, their Games for Gold promotion has so far failed on every level, causing more backlash instead of settling it down. Enough said.

Seventh, even though Playstation 4's multiplayer (most of it) is behind a paywall now, that paywall is still far less monolithic and restricting than Gold's.

Finally, oh yes, the Xbox 360 is getting TV features too! Dat's right! The major competitor on the TV-Game-Console side of things, the only thing that could challenge the One's dominance at television, is ITS PREVIOUS GENERATION CONSOLE.

....think I'm done. >_<

MS tried to screw us all and got screwed themselves. I'm just sad that them trying to put a super horrible anti-consumer thing in opened the door for Sony to slip some small anti-consumer stuff in. The industry needs fiercer competition to prevent this crap, with Nintendo basically sitting in the corner eating paste we are hovering over the edge of a ton of anti-consumer short sighted money making schemes. I mean hell Sony's competition barely kept MS from implementing the worse DRM in history.

After spoony mentioned it I watched this interview with Angry Joe and Major Nelson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RtSGFryKwo

This was a VERY soft interview, every time Angry Joe hinted at a "tough" question he got really angry and Joe backed off

Specifically the point around 11 min when he asks about the 24 hour check in he grabs the microphone out of Joe's hands and starts attacking him. I can't describe how put off I was after watching that, you are a senior representative of a company trying to convince people to buy your product and you act like THAT.

I think it's good that they reversed their decision. Still it's 100 dollars more expensive than the PS4 and comes with a mandatory kinect, so no dice Microsoft.

lol this is my first time watching it and you can just see the fear in his face so many times and he basically just starts spouting bs to stall so he doesn't have to answer the real question.

Microsoft is treating us as consumers -- they should be treating us as customers. They're forcing their policies on us instead of making the policies seem appealing enough to use. They've become so tied up in anti-piracy they forgot about rewarding consumers, and decided to punish consumers with their anti-piracy measures.

Family sharing wasn't a supplement to used games, it was another way to advertise for Microsoft. The Kinect is there as a way for Microsoft to be convinced that it was worth something, but in reality everyone is going to have to spend that extra $100 for a black box they feel uncomfortable to leave on. Their slow recess back into offline mode and used games shows that they are reluctant to retract their forced policies: they only did so because sticking to their guns would be suicide. (They didn't change because they were listening to us, they changed because the console would've tanked.)

And I'm upset that people are still going to get the Xbone after Microsoft changed, because they don't understand Microsoft's direction after their mask of service goes on.

I think Microsoft stinks. Like poopoo.

I honestly don't care. I still think Xbox One is a good console, with better exclusives than the Playstation 4. I never thought that the DRM or Kinect was 'Draconian', 'Orwellian' or 'Anti-consumer' as I've heard them called multiple times, and I think it's pretty dumb of people to use those words. Maybe look up what they mean first.
To conclude, in the great console war of Microsoft VS the gamers, I think neither side they can say they are right. Microsoft have made some pretty questionable decisions and I still don't know how they added 1 and 1 together and came up with the One. The gamers have been acting like the entitled brats we are, and frankly it makes me ashamed to be one.

Microsoft was/is trying to gain control of the market with total dominance, and in turn control our (the consumers) spending habits--forcefully. I don't think I can ever trust them not to try again.

Maybe you should look up what they mean and those exclusives you think are so much better are probably timed exclusives. 24 hour check ins was horrible for everyone it's a good thing we complained and they caved, you say gamers act entitled but this is one time where we needed to complain and frankly the fact that you think it's a bad thing this crap is gone makes it a good thing you don't consider yourself a gamer because we don't want you.

I'm not one who would have personally been too harshly impacted by most of the things they were planning to implement, but I still didn't like them. My major issue, however, wasn't the actual things they were going to do, it was the mass arrogance which with they put them forward. If you've got some good ideas, then do what you can to publicize and promote them. Don't basically say people are stupid or should exist in the same first world you do.

That arrogance is really the major reason why even though they've gone back on many of their changes I still have no real interest in the One.

Umm even if true why shouldn't we be?
Gaming is a hobby, its a non essential past time, and though Microsoft may have forgotten companies exist to produce products that customers WANT. The power is supposed to be with the customer not the company, we are SUPPOSED to be able to demand what WE want out of a product and then its up to the company to make it or go broke. I don't know when this was turned around so that customers should be grateful for whatever scraps companies decide to give them but that's not how the capitalist system is supposed to work and I'm glad to see that for once customers turned around and gave the company what it deserved. Twice actually if you include windows 8

When they realised that media IP rights gives you quasi-monopolies. Unfortunately they seem to have overestimated how much power that gives them. Gamers are hesitant to give up on a series or console they like, not unwilling. That's a distinction that lots of companies don't seem to grasp and it's going to bite them in a big way.

Well Microsoft came out of with their first set of "qualifications" like the you have to sign in every 24 hours thing. That is kind of ridiculous.

I understand fully that they have taken that back, but trying to take some of their bs back isn't going to fix the fact that they already have done. Microsoft lost a huge gamer that would have given them a lot of money for their stuff (being as that I prefer Xbox 360 over the Playstation 3). From now on though I'm going probably switch over to the Playstation 4.

Considering several game publishers already had online passes for multiplayer, I don't see how it would have been any different from current gen.

Sony being snarky honestly made them look like children.

I do find it sad considering I love the 360 as a console, but I can't trust Microsoft at all with the Xbox One. Sure, they reversed some of the policies I didn't like, but I figure those will be implemented again once they have a large install base set up. I would've been more than happy to get the Xbox One if there was more to offer, but as far as the console, exclusives, and Microsoft's unveiling has gone, I don't want to support the console at this time.

I hope not.

Microsoft Game Studios has many talented studios working for it, for the division to crumble would not only result in the mass-loss of jobs far beyond what we saw with THQ, but it would give Sony no competition which would give them full power.
Do you really think Sony would be so nice to consumers if they had no competition?

Also Microsoft has been the one known for taking greater risk.
They funded games like Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Gear of War and Alan Wake. On top of that Microsoft DOESN'T own any of those IPs.
If Epic wanted too, they could take Gears of War to a sony system.
Microsoft has done much more for gaming than people give them credit for.

They pushed the internet on consoles, HD games and for a few years Microsoft was the go to place for indie development and arguably the indie movement we have now started on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Microsoft also helped develop the MMO genre with their funding and publishing of Asheron's Call and they had a unified PC gaming network (Zone) before Steam was a thing.

Microsoft also indirectly caused the birth of Valve, not to mention the majority of gaming is done on Microsoft Windows.

They also hold IPs which changed gaming more than most Sony franchises.
Halo, Age of Empires, Flight Simulator have done for gaming than most.

Microsoft Game Studios has done much for gaming and can continue to do much more.
To want them to be destroyed would only set back gaming.
