Say you are tasked with destroying the one ring. You are no more powerful then you are right now, but you are allowed to take eight video game characters with you, as long as they weren't originally part of the Fellowship. However, they aren't your loyal slaves. You will have to deal with them and all their personal baggage
You can have four normal warriors(People on the power level of, say Garelt, from The Witcher)
One magic enhanced character(People who could be considered super humans. Kratos, for example)
And three allies without combat training(Like healers, or craftsmen)
The characters will only have access to technology available in medieval renaissance times, so characters skilled with fire arms will not be at an automatic advantage. There were guns, but they were primitive and often unreliable
Let's try to avoid choosing characters who are virtually immortal
