Ok probably aging myself and it wasn't necessarily a true console but a VIC 20 with Gorf, Space Invaders and some driving game. Unless of course you count the ultra early "consoles" then it would have to be Radio Shack's "Pong - console."
Yay. You're the first person I've ever seen on here (besides me) who's mentioned the VIC-20. Yeah, it was more of a crappy computer than a console (the predecessor to the C64, which had a lot more going for it), but it did have a cartridge slot for games, so I'm willing to let it slide...mostly because that lets me count it as my first, too.
I still have it in a box in the closet, and it even works, although the pins have worn off some of the cartridges to the point that they're pretty much unplayable, and I'd be amazed if any of the tapes aren't demagnetized. You can still boot it up and type in stuff in BASIC by hand, at least. I'd have to pull it out to see what games I had for it, but off the top of my head I can remember Omega Race, Jupiter Lander (Lunar Lander knockoff), and Sea Wolf.
First "real" console would be the NES, after they started packing SMB/Duck Hunt in a single cartridge, but before they changed the Zappers to be bright orange, so I still have the dark grey one that was somehow too "realistic"-looking, despite pretty obviously not looking like anything other than a plastic toy.
