My very first pokemon game was pokemon yellow version. I have no clue how i got it all i remember was my older brother passing me the huge gameboy and me loving the game straight away. I think played Red version and got all 151 pokemon because my friend had blue version.
I went to silver and crystal and then i went to sapphire and sadly thats where i stopped.

Yours?
RED!! and within a week I bought Blue and god knows I got yellow pretty damn fast.

Pokemon Red. Then I got Yellow, Gold, Silver, Sapphire, Pearl, Diamond, Heart Gold, Leaf Green, Emerald, then Red again (playing through it right now actually) and finally Gold again. In that order.
I'd guess at around 2,000 hours for total play time on every Pokemon game I've owned.

I played my brother's Pokemon Red for about 10 minutes before I found a copy of Pokemon Blue lying in the middle of the road.

In order, I played:
Red
Blue
Yellow
Snap
Stadium
Hey You, Pikachu

And I haven't played a new one since (not including the Smash Bros. games).

My first was a pokemon blue that I got with my birthday money when I was a boy. As soon as I got home my dad told me off becasue he thought that pokemon was, and I quote, 'a stupid waste of time and money'. It was about a month before I work up the nerve to try and play it myself.

Also Pokemon Blue. Got it for Christmas along with my very first Toblerone bar.

That chocolate has never tasted so good as it then at that time. Nor did Pokemon feel so enjoyable as the first. Silver was awesome and probably the favorite of them all but Blue will still keep the nostalgia for me.

Blue version, and I actually still have it. Sold my Gold and Sapphire, really regret that, but now have FireRed, Emerald, Platinum, SoulSilver, and Blue (of course).

Blue. It was solely an aesthetic choice, since I didn't know about exclusive Pokémon at that point. I had several friends with Red, so trading for max was doable.

I don't even remember my next Pokémon, because after all the time invested in the first, it wasn't the same to me.

I refused to have Red or Blue because I wanted to have Pikachu.
Pikachu was my reason as well. I loved how he was always one step behind me. =)
