Pokemon Yellow, which also happened to be my first game, period (excluding Humongous Entertainment adventure games and edutainment, of course).

I keep trying to think back. I know FF7 was one of my first RPG's, but I think I played Mystic Quest before that.

One thing I will say about Mystic Quest, it might be simpler than a bag of rocks, but it had some bad-ass music.

Legend Of Legaia (ps1) I loved it so much at the time. Although it would probably kill me to play it now. It's a jrpg and at the time random battles worked but not so much anymore. Now I prefer westren rpgs much more. I still love the game but I have just out grown it.
JRPGs have long left random battles behind. For the most part, at least. The odd random battle game still pops up on occasion.
Enchanted Arms, here's looking at you!

Uuuuh... Pokémon Silver (GS Edition) I believe. (No idea what was special about the "GS Edition", but it sounds cooler)
I'd of course briefly played Red and Blue on other people's Gameboys, but this was the first RPG I remember owning.

EDIT: No wait!!

My first RPG was in fact a Robin Hood game on the PC. It was a very basic RPG in being that it was very linear, but you had to manage items and weapons etc. It was a point-and-click on the computer, and it was so old it was entirely on floppy-disc. I was about 6-7 when I was playing it, but I cannot for the life of me remember the actual title.

Mine was Morrowind - At the time i thought it was absolutely awesome - I still play it sometimes. Sometimes.
I remember Grandia :)
Man, I could not have handled Morrowind at the age when I discovered RPG's. I think Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was my first. I even made my best friend all through elementary and grade school because we discovered in second grade we both playing through that game.

None of the zelda games are RPG's, so they don't really count.

Grandia was a great game, well worthy of praise, but Grandia 2 is definately the best of the series. Yes, I still go back and play both these games on a regular basis.

Suikoden games games are not underrated, they have a huge following. The fanbase is even willing to let them get away with the crap they pulled in Suikoden IV. Yes, Suikoden 2 is da king.

As for /my/ first rpg, I would have to go back to NES days when all we had was final fantasy, ultima and dragon warrior. I don't quite remember which one I played first, but I do remember getting totally hooked on final fantasy. It was one of those games I played alot, but never really beat because that last dungeon was a pain in the ass. Eventually I beat it on the ps1.
