This thread was titled "Game of 2008" but it seams so many of us still love games from previous years that I thought I should open it up a little bit.

Throughout my xbox ownership, I've been looking for games that can really take me in, games that strike me with their graphics, storyline and gameplay. And the only games I can think of that ticked all those boxes were GTA IV and Assassins Creed, even though they aren't perfect, they were different and each had something special and unique to them.

What are your main games of choice?

Whats your game or games of 2008?
Assassin's Creed was from 2007.
But I found Fallout 3 to the most immersive game I've played this year, possibly the most immersive I've ever played. It has a massive, detailed environment with memorable characters and involved, rewarding side quests. I know I sound like an advertisement, but seriously, it's that good.
Comparing it to other games, they just don't hold up.

I agree with you on Assassin's Creed.

But my game of the year is definitely Left 4 Dead.

Twilight Princess, I suppose. Zelda games tend to lack in thoughtfulness, and Midna has to take the crown as queen of all support characters (Go away Navi, and never come back). There was a lot to be improved (Ie - Link in general. I'm sick of his effeminate face. Unless he's cell-shaded there's never any bloody expression in it), but overall it sucked me in and kept me in

Would have to say that I wasn't to impressed this year for games. I would say COD4, because I haven't played World at War and COD4 came out late last year. I have gone back to older games that I enjoyed more, however, from what little I have played of Gears Of War 2, it sure looks good!

That was in 2006. But mine would be Castle Crashers or World of Goo.

Well, I'm going with Saint's Row 2 because it is pure fun to play with a friend and returns to the spirit of the older, better GTA games.

Mine would have to be Mass Effect. I have beaten it twice, and i still would be playing it if it wasn't for my xbox dying on me.

X3 terran conflict. Still could have been better, but it was way better than the rest of the stuff that went out.

Trauma Center: Under The Knife 2. Sweet bloody LORD, the story in that surpasses most console games, and on hard it gets to the intensitiy and challenging unfairness of a FUCKING ROMHACK. (Hall of Shadows or Dream's End on Hard, anyone?)

True, Twilight Princess was a 2006 release, but I played it last year. I tend to play games as and when rather than when they're released

Fallout 3 was great.

EDIT: Saints Row 2 was really immersive for me, but i'm not sure if the release date was this year or not.
