Bad Company 1, getting dropped into a Gold Rush on the attackers side and realizing that my team doesn't seem to understand that blowing up the crates is what we're supposed to be doing, and ending up having to do it all myself just to keep us from losing.

Other players. I seriously hate multiplayer. I can only be called versions of "gay" so many times. I also hate useless AI allies when you have to rely on them. Yes I'm looking at you RE 5. I liked that I could completely ignore my allies dying in Mass Effect and Dragon Age :)

We all have them. What little gaming-related idiosyncrasies make you mad with rage?

For me:
- When people refer to Portal or the Metroid Prime trilogy as being FPS's. Just because they are in first person and feature shooting does not make them FPS's.
Actually... it does. Just because the focus isn't on combat doesn't mean it's not a FPS. If you break it down, FPS stands for First Person Shooter. In both Metroid Prime and Portal, you play in first-person and shoot. Ergo...
- This recent trend in games when devs label their new games as an "FPS/RPG hybrid" to make it sound "smarter" when in reality it is essentially an FPS with very weak and barely noticeable RPG elements.
Well, it moves units, and that's all that matter.
- When people complain about JRPG's based solely on the fact that Yahtzee doesn't like them.
- When people complain about how the Mario and Zelda series have so many sequels when just about every other game series does the same thing (this also stems from Yahtzee a lot of the time).
Really nothing to disagree with here, although the Mario and Zelda complaints have been around long before Yahtzee, and giving him credit for creating that argument is giving that hack far too much credit.
Aww, don't be mean to Yahtzee, he's payed to be a dick. For me, I'm going to say when a game is absolutely brilliant that nobody bought (Omega Boost BEST GAME EVER!)

I dislike overpowered weapons, I mean, I can deal with good players, bad players, douchey players, campers, snipers and all the other stuff, if its all balanced and fair. Its just when a player regardless of skill uses one weapon for an entire match and does really well, just because he happened to get to the 'Kill-everything-9000' before someone else. Grr

yeah that annoys me significantly in Bad Company, playing successive matches with the same group of players and seeing guys ALWAYS using the same class or tactic, regardless of how much it actually contributes to the team effort. i specifically mix up what i take depending on what i feel is best suited for the situation, that can be aggravating as well when i need to take sniper for a while since the 5 snipers already on my team are busy dying or safely shooting at self-healing enemies from about 2 miles away.

How about games where I can't see anything (Bad Company 2, I'm looking straight at you, you unenjoyable but damn well-made bastard).
Oh, and time limits. Hate time limits.

Huge unskippable cutscenes RIGHT BEFORE a hard boss fight.

*Dies to boss*
*Reloads save*
*Listens to 5 minutes of ranting*
*Dies to boss*

In terms of Online FPS games, snipers in general are annoyingly retarded.

going in the same sense: when people classify their games as "hardcore"....most of these people probably began gaming with the xbox (as that is around the time this infuriating descriptor comes from).

seriously, if you call a game hardcore, you are a douchebag. there are multiple classifications of games: puzzle, FPS, RTS, RPG etc etc etc. Hardcore is not one of them, now excuse me while i go play my "hatdcore" mario galaxy herrr herrr.

Exclusive pre-order/buy-from-this-store content. Preorder bonuses are nice and understandable, but make it something that doesn't effect the fucking game! Figurines, art books, soundtracks, etc. are really good, but I feel like making the bonus in-game content is a big "Fuck you" to everyone who decided to wait for reviews and what not. Even when I preorder anyway and get it, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth (but I luvs me my figurines).

Unskippable cutscenes. To be fair, this doesn't actually bother me unless I'm doing another playthrough or there's one right before some big boss battle that takes a few attempts.

Lack of save-anywhere functionality. I can understand checkpoints, and I think those are fine, but at least allow me to save wherever I need to and just put me back at the last checkpoint when I load.

Oh I could go an all day. But these will do for a start:

- Games that have glimpses of brilliance in them, but are still crap.

- Exclusives. I am not going to buy a whole console for one or two fucking games. Even good games.

- Time limits. I like exploring and poking around.

- Ally NPCs. I invariably feel compelled to keep them alive.

- Checkpoints in crappy places. Right before unskippable cutscenes for example.

- Lack of quicksave/quickload. There's really no excuse for this crap nowadays.

- Generic games. Played one, played 'em all.

- Multiplayer. Or rather, those people you encounter in multiplayer games. You know who I mean.

- Awkward controls. Jesus people, it's called playtesting.

I'm still a little pissy about the tiny amount of air time Ashley and Wrex got in Mass Effect 2 considering they were my favourites in Mass Effect 1.

I actually have other, even more petty complaints to rant about but I can't think of them right now. When I remember them I'll return but for now, the Ashley/Wrex/ME2 thing.... totally annoying, even though I know it's so that Ashley and Wrex will get bigger roles in Mass Effect 3, it still annoys me.

Wow, I was starting to think I was the only person who liked Ashley in ME1. Are they definetely getting bigger roles in 3? That should definetely happen, also Liara (I know she's rumored as DLC for 2 but I think that would be a waste).
It really annoyed me in my first ME2 playthrough when Ashley basically has a go at you for not calling while you were dead. Also no option to criticise Cerberus for Akuze, especailly as that Shepperd was Sole Survivor.

People who don't understand that a co-op game is only playable if the team works together.
- L4D2, I'm looking at you. Seriously, I don't care who the point man is when I'm trying to get through 'The Passing' on Expert mode. If we all just work together and follow ONE plan, we'll get through the level. But no, everyone insists that THEY ALONE know best, and can't seem to agree on a goddamned thing. Meanwhile, 5 minutes ago while you were bickering about I-don't-care-what, my face got eaten off by a Hunter. Fuck. You.

Yeah, I know that feeling. Though I can promise you, there are plenty of others, we aren't completely alone, just a vast minority.
Still, always nice to meet someone else who is a fan of Ashley.

It was stated in an interview that the reason at least that Ashley/Liara/Kaidan can't/refuse to go with you in Mass Effect 2 is because there is a really big thing that is very central to the plot involving them happening in Mass Effect 3, ergo they couldn't afford to kill them off.
I also doubt Wrex won't get some attention because... well... he's Wrex.
I also agree that the Liara DLC would be kind of pointless, wait until ME3 I say.

It really annoyed me in my first ME2 playthrough when Ashley basically has a go at you for not calling while you were dead.
It mostly just annoyed me that I couldn't recruit her... because to be honest in her position I can understand why she's upset (not every day that the person you loved who you saw die walks back into your life to reveal that they are basically working for the arch enemy of the army you serve, she didn't know Shepard was being rebuilt by Shepard after all) but it's true, I would have liked a bit more screentime with her... still she at least sends an apologetic email so there's that going for it.

Also no option to criticise Cerberus for Akuze, especailly as that Shepperd was Sole Survivor.
True, to be honest a lot of dialouge options that I wanted to say in Mass Effect 2 simply weren't available. That's the inherent problem with a dialouge system, inevitably words are going to pop up that you want to say but can't.

Still, thanks for the positive feedback. You're among the only people in months who haven't flamed me when I mention I liked Ashley in Mass Effect.

EDIT: And before I forget, Welcome to the Escapist.

This really comes down to semantics. Your definition of FPS is more literal, whereas for me certain other elements are required for it to be an FPS. For instance, RPG stands for "role-playing game," but there are many games in which the player takes on a role which are not RPG's. Still, this is mainly just based on how we define "FPS," so I doubt either of us will really be able to convince the other of anything here.

Yeah, Yahtzee didn't create it, but he helps perpetuate it, at least on this site.

When people try to justify DRM because of piracy. These people completely fail to grasp the fact that punishing everyone because of the acts of a very small minority is morally abhorrent.

The unskippable cuts scenes are pretty annoying except in "Too Human". Every now and then I have flashbacks of that and fly around the room in a fit of rage. Seriously, no healing AND unskippable death scene?

Save Points. After the invention of "auto-save", I've become lazy and hate save points where I have to actually input commands to save my game.
