My first memory of gaming was an arcade wrestling game. Pretty fuzzy on that one. I played sonic pretty extensively; I think that was the first game I had at home. I was awful at it anyway, I never got passed marble zone. Don't get me started on prince or persia...

The first console I saved up and bought was a NES at a school sale, with the Mario/duck hunt combo.

Now you have a nostalgia overload. Please don't kill me. Also, did you know that you could get infinite health if you picked up the items on the roof of the main hub area in the right order? I can't remember what it spelled, my mind is saying 'hammer' for some reason but I don't think that's it.

The first game I played was Super Mario World(when the SNES was almost dead and the N64 was taking over), but I only played for a bit. My first games were Final Fantasy VII and Rayman. Figures my first game was a crushingly unforgiving platformer. It was awesome though.

My avatar says it all. Pokemon may not have been the first game I ever played but it was certainly the first series that I got attached to.

We had a NES at my house growing up with Super Mario 2 on it. I loved playing it but I was like 4 so I don't really remember it much. I would say most of my gaming roots come from my dad who was a gamer. He was super into Doom and Quake. The original Quake was my first FPS not that I was any good at it. He tried to get my skills high enough to play Quake 3 with him, how cute would that have been? A little girl playing quake arena with her dad.

I moved away from PC stuff when I got Pokemon Blue and have been a pretty strong console gamer ever since. My PC gaming father was not please haha.

Also, the most obscure code I can remember from my childhood is from Turok:

The game guide that gave it were stupid and didn't give the mnemonic[footnote]It's just a simple sentence, sans vowels: "On the eight day, God created Turok." Yes, I find it easier to remember the jumbled letters than the sentence itself.[/footnote] that would have made memorising it so much easier. Oh well, what's a young mind good for if not abusing with unnecessary information?

I started playing games when I was 4 years old. My aunt brought me an NES from the USA with Super Mario Bros. 3, one of the best games I've ever played and still is one of my top 10 of all time. Basically, I grew up with Nintendo, starting from Platform, Adventure and Action games. In the SNES era, I also became familiar with new franchises and genders, like Megaman X (yes, I started playing the X version before I new that there were previous Megaman on NES). I gave a chance to racing games and after being beat down too many times, I finally started to accept them by playing Mario Kart (SNES). I'm still not much of a fan of racing games, because I like to beat people up in Mario Kart more than winning the race XD. Also, I'm pretty good at Tetris Attack (love Puzzle games; started with Tetris on Game Boy, and went to Mario Picross). I've never found anyone that could beat me in this game and I'm looking forward to meeting one. I tried to train my sister and cousins, but it was no use. They put more of a fight now, though, so they definitely made the game more fun for me. If anyone of you that read this know of this game and like to play it, please tell me. We just might become good friends with each other
Right now, I love RPGs, RTSs, I'm still in love with Platform, Action and Adventure games. I suck at Racing and FPSs. I'm finally liking "Shoot 'em up"s by playing Touhou (although I think it's officially classified as a "Danmaku" - Bullet Hell Shooter). That's basically my games' story. Hope it helps you. Started on SNES followed by N64. Games like Mario(allstars,64,kart etc), Goldeneye, Zedla(OoT&MM) & quake. I had others but I fell those were the games that I played the most and formed what kind of games I play now.

When NES came out it was gaming bliss, with Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man. Video games were my life until high school when I started liking girls and social things. I then finished school and got married and figured out that games was still much cooler than all that so I'm right back in it.

Glad someone else said this, thread was making me feel really old.

The first game I remember playing was Super Mario Bros. at my neighbor's house (their son had just gotten it for Christmas). I was about three years old at the time. My family didn't have much expendable income, so my parents gave me an old Vectrex unit that a friend of theirs had sitting in their garage. I played it so much that the old girl slowly broke down due to old age. I also had quite a few old PC games I used to play on my parents' old Intel 486, such as X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. My neighbor friend had gotten an SNES by then, and we had many happy summers playing games like Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Country after a long swim.

When I got to junior high, my parents finally broke down and got me an N64. From then on out I stayed more or less in touch with current releases, both for PC and console (I was and still am mostly Nintendo/Microsoft when it comes to console purchases).

I guess you could say gaming has always been a part of my life.
