I've got few that aren't more directly story-related. Frankly, I have some that would fit, but wouldn't make overly good stories... like the time I survived in situations where I truly shouldn't after dying out of nowhere. But I do have one that at least makes a good story.

Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Last battle. If you haven't played it yet, spoilers here. (And go play it already.)

So there I was, up against a woman who's a hair's breadth from becoming the new Goddess of Murder. I was... frankly getting my ass handed to me. Everyone I had was dead, barring one teeny little wild mage. And... well, he wouldn't last long on his own. He had a summon, though. One Solar... er, or whatever the mage version of that thing is. Anyway. The solar is getting its ass handed to it. The only enemy left is the near-goddess.

So, I'm screwed. I'm out of really useful spells. I cannot damage her any other way.

I used a spell that creates a controlled wild surge. I could only pray that, if it decided to surge, whatever I created was strong enough to get through her defenses, strong enough to beat her, and that it doesn't backfire and kill me or something.

The solar goes down. I hold my breath and cast.

Wild surge. Crap! What did it-!?

MOOOOOOOOOOO*WHAM!*

I took down a near Goddess of Murder with a cow from the sky.

Some of these posts are amazing, but I've also been noticing alot of posts on FPS greatest moments and some of these posts seem like common occurences, that is if you are pretty good at the game. I for one am really good at an FPS, I guess i have lightning reactions, and so whenever I buy a new FPS, say less than 3 months old, I pwn everyone in deathmatch and get the highest score. Right now the new FPS is Crysis. I say new because after a few months there are some extreme hardcore players that have spent so many of their hours in their short lives playing these games that they memorize all these exploits in the game to get top scores and then the game is just boring and predictable.

I usually end up getting these crazy killing sprees involving multiple types of weapons and/or vehicles. I love it when I kill a dude up close with a shotgun, pick up his sniper rifle, snipe the guy that just missed with his sniper, kill another guy with a rocket launcher, grap that and destroy a nearby tank, drop a few mines and lure someone inside a room to see them blow up in my face. Then I die from some random grenade.

A recent Crysis power struggle moment: Went to the prototype factory at the beginning, with a shotgun cause i could only afford a cheap gun, and blasted 2 guys guarding the entrance. Used the captured factory to buy some claymores and placed them throughout entrances, ended up only person defending it cause rest of team apparently only bother going to the factory when the enemy has it, so I ended up constantly shooting guys in the face with autumatic weapons i get from their bodies as my claymores blow up other guys trying to enter the building. Sometimes a few guys would come in at the same time and I'd chuck a grenade and killed the group. So after about 20 kills and no deaths I got bored and went outside for some action. I ran and grabbed a jeep, ran over a enarby guy and proceeded to the vehicle factory and build a tank. Okay I died from a sniper before i got there but i respawned and headed there again. With the tank I guarded the prototype factory and man it was fun getting 1 shot kills on jeeps trying to drive past me and machine gunning em. I drove around and by this time helicopters were around, somehow I ended up shooting down 2 helicopters with 2 well placed shells (the helicopters are fast so you have to predict where the shell will go just like a rocket). I was running out of shells and with my last shell I fired it randomly and guess what, noone died lol.

Sweetest FEAR moment: I was only able to do this once and have never ever seen someone do this on any server ever, and believe me i played this game for like almost 2 years off and on. Anyways, in this game when you are unarmed you run really fast, so in CTF if an unarmed guy gets your flag he is only slightly slower, so only way to catch up to him is too run unarmed. I got the alert as I spawned and quickly went unarmed and ran for the enemies base I saw the flag carrier and was catching up, but guarding the entrance he jsut went though were like 8 guys!!! Now melee hits in this game are 1 hit kills, but you ahve to be kinda precise to get a kill, you can also do a slide with your legs or in the air with your legs. So that's what I tried with the first guy in the entrance and he died, but the otehr 7 guys noticed me so i just ran through them pressing the attack button and killed a few in the process. Finally I got the flag carrier with my fists after going through multiple hallways with baddies, had like 1 health left too lol. Ended up getting 7 kills in those few seconds and won the game 3-2, oh yeah and there was like 1 minute left in the game so ya I won the game for the team lol.

Also, maybe this has been done a few times, but in FEAR, in another CTF match once again the flag stolen alert popped up. On this map there are two main levels that connect the bases, a lower level and a higher level. The flag carrier was running on the higher level and I was on the lower level trying to catch up. I was getting close to the flagstand so i desperately jumped towards the flag stand (where you capture the flag) and meleed him in the air, headshot, just in time. This was great cause throughout the map as I was running I could see him above me most of the time and I got him just around a corner "expecting" him to be there, where the 2 levels intersect. I really didn't know he was there because I could not see him, so when I meleed him based on an assumption that is where he would be I felt awesome, and this was from the beginning of my base to the beginning of his base. If I were to wait till I saw him it would be too late and the flag would have been captured.

Beating Contra. If I pick it up now I probably wouldn't get past the first level. Damn that game was hard.

In the arcades: Beating Dragon's Lair 2 (the laserdisc game) on one credit, without dying. With about nine people watching.
(Runner-up: Getting through the first two stages of House of the Dead 4 on a single play, going akimbo (one gun in each hand). Nothing like going John Woo on crowds of the undead.)

On PC: Back in the day when I played Counter-Strike: Source regularly, I mainly played on a server that had restricted the AWP and autosnipers. So playing defense as a T on Italy, I'd bought a Scout and was covering the center pathway. Two CTs rush out and start firing at me. *CRACK* The round hits the first one in the chest, killing him (72 damage) and goes through to hit the other, who'd obviously been badly wounded, finishing him off (23 damage). Scoring a double-kill with a Scout is a hard thing to do.
(Runner-up: The five-kill streak I had with an MP5 in one of the custom maps on the server.)

I remember barreling into an enemy base in Battlefield 2 inside of a FAV and I ended up jumping int he air over an enemy tank and laning perfectly on it and then exploding, taking it out. It was on Highway Tampa. I also remember riding on a firend's Battlewalker in 2142 when my firend chrushed some dude's hover tank then kept walking with the tank being puhed in front of us like a battering ram until it exploded, killing us both. Or in Battlefield 2 when I took a too big of a turn in a chopper and ened up impaling someone with my tail.

I play Unreal Tournament kind of like a sport, so most of my favorite gaming moments have been against-the-odds victories or amazing shots in UT. There isn't one event that stands out particularly though. I've gotten second place in a couple LAN tournaments, but it's hard to really mention that as a high point since I basically lost hehe.

All mine are from Battlefield games. Plenty of funs times.
Like taking out a smoking BlackHawk with a SRAW.
Flying a heli the whole round witohut dying and my co-pilot getting 100s of kills.
For a period with my PKM I was just on fire, I wouldnt die and I kept mowing people down. It might have be a 30 or 40 kills streak.

Also in CoD 4, The Mile high Club on around 8th try and 20 kills streak with the Barret Sniper on a CQB map.

Okay so me and 5 of my friends start off on the offensive (I'm only level 27 all of my friend are 49+) and right away I get slaughtered by random grenades, we won that round. 1-0

I get sniped just as I peak around a corner (my friends start calling me a noob) we won that round. 2-0

As the round starts I run to the nearest building and set up a few claymores, then I toss a grenade over the building, and get a kill, then draw another one through the door with claymores, then just after he dies I get raped by hundreds of bullets by three others storming the building. One of my friends just ran in to the building, while cooking a grenade and just threw it at them at the last second and dropped them all right there, We won that round. 3-0

This one started off horribly, we lost four of our teamates immediatly due to random grenades then me and the other surviver were quickly picked off by snipers. Round loss. 3-1

Some sniper on their team got 6 kills (Our entire team!) over the span of 1 minute 30 second . Round loss. 3-2

Okay so I decided to take a sniper, I quickly sprinted to a bus and found a good spot and immediatly took out 2, then I spotted another sniper sitting behind cover, but showing part of his head, just as I hold my breath to take my shot he fires and hit me right inbetween the eyes. The rest of my team was eliminated. Round loss. 3-3

This round we decide to plant the bomb and defend it, once one of my friends grabs the bomb our team immediatly our team splits in half, my team runs to the left to seek out cover for our bomb carrier, the other team take the right and literatly 15 seconds later i'm the last man on my team 6-on-1, All of my teamates are saying "Well it's over..", then the moment I poke my head around a corner I notice someone tea-bagging my friend so I run up and knife him and grab his 'Saw' (The big machine gun), 1 down five to go, and then look into the open and notice two guys running in the open and run out like Rambo and blow an entire clip from the saw, 3 down 3 to go. After a while of sneaking around i'm behind a broken down bus and notice 3 snipers, Time for payback, So I open fire and kill two of them but the other escaped and hid by one of the bomb points so after a while of hunting him down I finally found him, looking the opposite way. Just before I opened fire, I realised I had 3 bullets left in my saw so I switched it off, then he quickly looked backwards and said "Nice comeback noob, but it's over and he threw a flashbang grenade and he bolted towards me and about 5 feet away from me, just about to knife me I Shot him right in the forehead dropping him right away and just screamed "OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

My friends haven't called me noob since.

My greatest satisfaction was beating Nightmare for the 3rd time in DMC. Super hard, super fun, super satisfying.

My one claim to family glory is being the first member of my family to beat "Breached Wall" in LOTR: TTT. We were all playing concurrantly and stuck at that level, but I was the first one to beat it.

Sadly, my "amazing" moments are all from pop-FPS games. I don't consider beating RPGs and Adventures that "glorious" since I've never had troubles with them (beat every storyline in Oblivion with the slider tuned to Maximum, etc.).

Counter-Strike: 20 People on De_Piranesi, It was down to 2 v 8, me being on the short Counter-Terrorist side. They plant the bomb at A, my teammate runs through and kills one, then dies, I heave a flash, then a frag up to the top, and take my M4 to the windows. The grenade kills four people, and I get a headshot in the windows. Use my 14 remaining bullets to kill the one guy hiding on the boxes and a desert eagle to take out the guy who was trying to frag me.
To think of it, I got Admin on that server shortly after that.
Halo 3: Ranked Objective, four kills with flag in one game, same with bomb in another. With the flag one I was in our base, and killed my teammate just to make it five. :)

On a side note, a couple of the articles (such as "Games Are For Kids") are actually blocked on my work server with the note "Tasteless/Obscene". I found it slightly humorous.

Once upon a time there was a simple internet game on the Dreamcast called 'Chu Chu Rocket'.

On the internet version there's was a person who I still remember 7 years on being called 'Mesarati'.

Of over 3000+ games he played of Rocket against other contestants, statistically he'd only lost around 200, so he was pretty much the God of Chu Chu.

The first time I went online he invited me for a game and he wiped the floor with my behind faster than I could say 'Holy son of Jude Law on a tricycle!'

But one day, a few months after, I picked a game with him for a laugh, knowing too well that I'd get hammered.

I won't go into details because Chu Chur Rocket isn't most tense game on earth, but I kicked his arse to tim-buck two. It happened all so fast, like when you get gangraped by the rugby players after Saturday school...

BTW, I relate to some of those SSB: Melee stories. I owned Everyone, with a capital 'E', with Bowser. Even with 3 friends all against me with the hardest characters, or 3 9/9 hardness characters, I would always somehow win.

I have 2. One was great and the other one was just to rub in his face

1: I suck at FPS and i was playing a demo of Resistance: Fall of Man, and i was versing some giant spider thing, and i got out the shotgun and blew all the whole barrel at it and it exploded into millions of peices. Made me feel like a big man

2: Me and my friend were playing GTA LCS multiplayer on our PSP'S and he got sick of trying to sniper me so he got in the car and tryed to run me down. I got out the rocket launcher and took aim. He saw it and bailed out of his car, and as he bailed out i fired but to miss the car and hit him. Never let go of that one!

OK, my story then...

Remember the original Lemmings back on the Amiga when you could play competitively with two mice plugged into the same Amiga? It's still in some ways the best multiplayer game ever made.

One day we spent all afternoon playing this, as sometimes happened. One particular match I was playing against a tough opponent. He started off doing something complex, so I decided to go for the one Lemming win. The way this works is that you dig a lethal hole right underneath the (shared) entry hatch and then you devote all your resources to saving one Lemming. One single Lemming. By the time your opponent spots what is going on it can be too late for them to do anything. This is a risky strategy and works best when used very seldom, because you need the surprise value.

But this one time I was a little slow in my setup and I just barely reached my digging Lemming in time with my mouse. Quickly I shot back to look after my one Lemming destined to survive. Then I heard a gasp of shock from my opponent. It wasn't until I'd saved my one Lemming that I scrolled back to see what had happened. Then I saw...

...dozens and dozens of my Lemmings. All marching towards my exit. And the opponent's Lemmings were all dead. Every last one.

It turns out that when Lemmings drop from a shared entry hatch they fall in a different position depending on which team they belong to. You can't see with the naked eye, but the two streams are one pixel apart. And my trap hole had hit the one pixel sweet spot! My Lemmings dropped in and landed safely. My opponent's Lemmings fell to their death.

I won that game more than 50-0.

Over the next few hours we tried many times to pull of this trick deliberately and managed it a couple of times. But even though it was essentially an accident, no victory was ever sweeter than that first time. :)

This is my favourite moment.
I was playing the NVA on Battlefield Vietnam on some map I forgot. The marines took every single control point and killed all my team except me. "GG" was written as I made my way to the nearest control point. I proceeded to unload all my AK-47 clip and all my grenades and emerged victorious sucessfully capping the point. I was then promptly kicked for "hacking" as I had killed all 32 of the opposite team.

Man, you young folks don't know glory. You want to know gaming glory? Beat the original Ninja Gaiden. After hours upon hours, days upon days, weeks upon weeks or plodding through, slowly getting better, getting a little farther each time, having an entire day's progress ruined by that ONE FRICKING BIRD! Then you finally, finally kill that ancient demon, and as you gaze upon Ryu standing on the cliff you will weep with joy. This is true gaming bliss.

Too bad I've never actually done that. Stupid bird...

The Streetfighter one with Bison vs Ryu has to be the best story so far. Stuff of legend.

My greatest moment? The only one I can think of in multiplayer would be on the day of England's elimination at the hands of Portugal from the football world cup in 2006.

At half time the 10 or so people at my friend's house were idly watching my friend Steve and I play a sneaky game of Pro Evo (not sure which one, probably 4, the best). I'm Portugal, he's England.

I'm 5-0 up at half time. I can't even remember the final score. I do remember Ronaldo belting one in from about 40 yards though. Steve's a really good player too. Never had a game like it. Everything I touched turned to gold. Everyone's watching. Steve's gone quiet.

Second half of the real match. 0-0. Extra time, then penalties.

Gerrard, Lampard and Carragher (!) miss. Portugal win. The host, Phil, goes a funny shade of white. Everyone shuffles out the door, heart broken. Accusing eyes are on me.

I don't think anyone talked to me for about a week after that.

In fact, I don't think I talked to myself for a month.

My great glory came from a game called Battlestatons: Midway. It was a simple game, a Pacific WWII naval simulator. I was down to a single battleship and her two destroyers and single cruiser escort. Against me was arrayed a vast Japanese fleet. But I charged straight at 'em, I broke their line of battle, I sent everyone down to the coral. It was a glorious.

My other glory came from a similar MMO game called Navyfield. In this game, I took command of an Allied fleet once our flagship was sunk by a volley of enemy gunfire. I organized it, drew my fleet up in divisions and sent them screaming down the enemy's throat, cutting their line into two and destroying them in detail. It too was glorious.
