I live in the City of Salford. The part I'm from was actually where Christopher Eccleston was born and he still lives around the area. Other people include Karl Pilkinton, a few footballers and a handful of others. Parts of Salford are a bit of a shithole but the area I live in and was born in is nice. Theres other things as well such the bridge water canal, which was considered the first ever canal. So yeah, thats about it. It looks quite boring in retrospect....

Quite simple really what claim to fame does your home town have? Was a famous person born there or live there? Did some big event happen or some invention created there? etc.

My home town Dumfries in the south of Scotland has 3 claims that i can come up with off the top of my head:

Robert the Bruce killed his rival to the Scottish throne, the Red Comyn in a church in the town in 1306. This made it possible for him to advance his campaign for the throne and eventually gain independence from the English.

The Poet Robert Burns lived and worked in the town until his death in 1796. He was also buried in a cemetery in the town.

The Writer J M Barrie (creator of the Peter Pan story) attended school in the town and the house he lived in during the time is often credited as the place he first thought of the idea for his work.

So what about your home town?
Akron, Ohio used to be the rubber capital of the world and was a target on enemy maps because of it's importance during world war 2

... this will be fun.

Östervåla, Sweden. You probably never heard of it.

Biggest claim? Well... back in the day we were famous all over Sweden for our fine furniture crafting skills (especially chairs, and we still have chair.... carving schools here).

Leyland, England [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leyland,_Lancashire] - I think this is the place the 'mini' was first made/invented, and it's home to Leyland Motors, some famous motor company that used to rule the industry or some shit. We also made the pope mobile. Our contribution to the world... *sigh*

Patrick Stewart was born near where I live, also there is the National Coal mining museum for England down the road.

EDIT: Forgot to mention where I actually lived, it's Wakefield, England.

The main one for Farnham [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farnham] is probably that it supplied the roof beams in Westminster Hall, built in the Middle Ages and almost the only part of the Palace of Westminster (where Parliament meets) to survive the fire of 1834.
