A game controlled with a Matrix-style total neural interface. Though, aside from just the hardware, my "ideal game" concept pretty much already exists in the most recent Fallout games; an open-world FPS/RPG with tons of choice (both in terms of character customization and moral choice), a sci-fi setting, interesting characters to meet, and an intriguing plotline to uncover. But, of course, the perfect concept doesn't mean perfect execution, especially on something as limiting as today's gaming systems (anything that involves buttons instead of jacking my brain straight into a computer is inherently too limiting for this concept to really come int its own).

A WRPG style game with an anime art style. I mean the moral choices and the older chaaracters of a WRPG with anime aesthetics, and the different crazy worlds in JRPG compared to the overuse of settings in WRPGS. I would want turn based battles but each battle to be meainingful in the game, nothing like random battles. I want the enviroment to be used as possible puzzles for each battle and for each battle to have multiple solutions. Maybe have powers similar to the Full Metal Alchemist animes that have a degree of logic to them where there are certain rules to follow and using your magical powers differently would have different effects. (example from FMA broterhood, ed elric uses alchemy to make some of the stuff in wet dynamite to make a terrible smell in order to defeat two dudes who are half beasts and half human.) Using the enviroment one way would make one battle easier but a later one harder and effect the story in various ways. I would also want a pacifist run to be possible. Opitional fast paced stealth like the Batman Arkham Asylum. I also do not want the choices to be just with dialogue but with what your character actually does in the world your'e in as well. Also, I would ike to be able to save anywhere. I also want TONS of pseudo philosophy and humor.

The game better have these tropes story wise (and many others!)-

This thread is full of win. If I ever make a video game and some of you notice I have taken your ideas, I apologize in advance.

For me, lets break it down to category: Witcher 2's graphics and artistic style, Planescape: Torment story, VtM:Bloodlines combat, Fallout style humor, and Deus Ex's level exploration and multiple paths.

Yeah. It's good to dream.

Never played Vampire Bloodlines or witcher 2 but this game sounds damn sweet.

I didn't know Vampire Bloodlines had good combat... playing some older games I missed (basically stopped playing PC games after Arcanum/The longest journey), near the end of Witcher one right now. I didn't like the first vampire masqurade game (not a huge fan of the setting and found the game just not interesting) but Troika was a sweet developer.

Alot of people would disagree Bloodlines had great combat, but all I know is I got to make people's blood boil and explode from a distance, while cackling evilly in the shadows. That was 5 minutes into the game. 2 hours in, I was making groups of people go insane and beat the shit out of each other, spreading the infection to others, then finally dying of a heart attack. You could clear crowded streets with it. And no one would be none the wiser..

Maybe the shooting was too dependent on leveling up to be useful, or the melee had a tendency to inaccurate with hit boxes... but I had a blast.

As for Witcher graphics, just look at this forest:

http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/the-witcher-2.jpg

It's like a magical fairy land where all our dreams come true. Look at that sunlight. It's so pretty my graphics card ***** slaps me if I try to put it above High.

I seen videos of Witcher 2 and they do look beautiful but the computer I'm using is not that great, plays Witcher one well enough but I doubt it can play Witcher 2 even on the lowest settings. Since Witcher 2 seems to be the only RPG that I know of that I'm pretty sure the computer won't play I'm going to wait for the possible Witcher 2 port to 360. (one game I"m unsure of is Neverwinternights 2 mask of the betrayer No clue if that game/expansion pack would work.)

I"m pretty sure this computer can play Vampire Bloodlines though. How is the roleplaying/choices compared to other RPGS? I heard the game forces you to do a lot of combat/hackslashing at the end and people made it sound like it was a bad thing. So I figured the combat would be bad... Can't really say what I think of the combat till I try it htough. Arcanum by Troika was also very good so I can imagine Vampire Bloodlines being very good.

An open world fighting game with RPG elements from Bioware and Bethesda, with the fighting engine of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Essentially Skyrim - the open world gameplay, the Radiant AI and Radiant Story stuff (if it works as advertised) combined with the world and style of The Witcher 2.

I'm a sucker for RPGs, and I'd say Final Fantasy X came the closest to ideal for me. My only real gripe with it was the voices being sped up to fit some scenes.

in the future i'd like to see more Film Noir-esque games like L.A. Noire, but a little less linearity, ans maybe some science fantasy (not fiction, big difference) games like in the steam punk genre.

and just to save the people who are going to give me flak about the steam-punk thing,i will save you some time and post a link to this handy-dandy flowchart :)

Go there on your computer and let it run the program, it will tell you if you can run the game on at least minimum settings, I've found it to be pretty accurate.

Also Mask of the Betrayer is excellent, hop on that.

Hmm, Bloodlines is a strange beast. How do you feel about Deus Ex? Because basically Bloodlines is what Deus Ex 2 should have been with less labrynthine world-dominating plots and more vampires with katanas and magical powers. To answer your question a little better, the roleplaying is excellent. You can be a tragic monster forced to join this dangerous political intrigue but trying your best to keep your humanity and do the right thing (and often failing), or a craven bastard looking for blood and to get paid, and a few shades in between. There are several tough choices in the game to enforce this, do you do the right thing and suffer emotionally/gameplay wise, or do you do the jerk thing and become stronger for it? Though being a crazy bastard has its downsides too (namely vampire hunters)

If that sounds cool to you, there are some fan patches to make the game more stable and add some things that got cut due to time constraints.

A fantasy sandbox done by Rockstar.

Well, that is probably not my true ideal, but it is something I have considered to be a good idea in the past.

I really liked Deus Ex. I even liked DEus Ex 2. I like Katanas and magical powers, ambivilent about vampires (don't hate them but dont' find them awesome either.) Will probably get Vampire Bloodlines next after done with the witcher.

The zombie game idea sounds damn enticing.. Something like that would keep me occupied for months, haha.

Anyways, I would just love to see a new Freelancer game or a new Jedi Academy game. I know it doesn't seem like much for a 'dream game' but those 2 games were so amazing that just a modern re-do would warrant a purchase and hours of mouse mashing.

A 500 Gigabyte Star Wars MMORPG with every single ship, every single planet, and ALL THE EMPTY SPACE in between. Every planet fully rendered and unique, not to scale but still HUGE. The openess of EVE Online set in the Star Wars universe.

When on foot, if you use guns, it would go to 1st person mode, and lightsaber combat would be similar to Jedi Outcast. The space combat would be open like EVE, but more player-controlled, like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and utilize a joystick. All of this with Crysis 2 graphics.
I think that would require more than 500 Gigabytes dude.

A zombie apocalypse survival game in a Grand Theft Auto/Saints Row/Just Cause style setting. Huge sprawling city with hijackable vehicles, buildings to barricade and shops to loot for food and weapons. But you have to keep on the move, food and ammunition doesn't respawn and there's limited fuel for vehicles. More importantly the infection is determined based on the events of a prequel in which you first came to the city. Whatever decisions you made are carried over into this one and go into helping you gather followers and assistance.

The infection starts off small and spreads so you've got plenty of time to plan for it.
that sounds awesome. Sounds like it could even support multiplayer on a small MMO scale. Team up with other groups of survivors, or raid them for their resources. Or let the zombies annihilate them and go in and pillage the aftermath.

my ideal game would be pokemon except first/third person, real time with full control, a decent story, good graphics, a skyrim style wild enemy levelling system (enemies level with you but there are caps for each area), no max level and the equivalent of each new pokemon game is released as a dlc. i think that would be pretty damn epic.

One of my alltime favourite games in Betrayal At Krondor. I would love to see a game like this again:

1) A first person perpective while travelling (with an optional overhead "Map view") through the main world and dungeons.

2) a third person strategic grid-based fighting (probably hex-based as opposed to the rectangular style in BAK).

3) Pre-created characters for the plot to revolve around (and set into chapters so characters can be split to follow their plot thread).

4) large free-roaming world.

The differences will be (apart:

1) better class and skill system

2) greater weapon and armour (plus specialisation options)

3) NPC characters you can choose to add or not to your party (in addition to the main characters)

4) Rather than a large static image being used for large cities where one would click on places of interest to visit I would have a 3D model that the player can rotate and search through. I would prefer this over a map.

It can be set in a different setting or reuse midkemia (with some expansion of the original map) for all I care - I just want that type of game again and Betrayal at Antara failed to be fun.
