so if you were making a game what kind of protagonist would you create?

I had an idea after thinking about games like Darksiders, god of war and Bayonetta, often with theease good vs evil/heavan vs hell type themes you get charachters that often chaotic neautral or chaotic evil...or just in general, somtimes evill jerks

I thourght you could have a game, where the world is essentially grey moralitiy wise, but the main charachter is an angel or somthing who ONLY sees the world in black and white, and they are whiter than white,so thats where you would get alot of the moral issues

not a particually groundbreaking Idea but perhaps an interesting change after alot of thease anti-hero type charachters

or a game where the main charachter is a dragon.....

or I had a random Idea where the main charachter starts out as servant in a castle...and assasinates all the powerful people in the castle (thats a pretty random one)

I'd like to have a main character who was a zombie. Not the more recent biological zombie, but an old fashioned, summoned from the grave type. His goal would be to find out why he's been brought back to life (so to speak, anyway,) all the while trying to avoid being seen by the living because... well, he's a zombie. People don't tend to react well to that.

I had an idea for a game that I pitched to my ENG120 class as part of our Mock Game Presentations.

My game is a third-person stealth shooter about a woman whose husband disappears during their honeymoon. Civil war erupts and she finds out at some point that her husband was indoctrinated into the service of the oppressive government. She joins the Resistance movement in the hopes of finding her lost husband and convincing him to defect.

Haven't seen a story like that in a game yet. Most women in games are designed to be sexy, tough, and cold-blooded killers. While war makes Trish jaded and different than before, she goes to war for love (think Dom in Gears of War 2). She is still supposed to be human and isn't designed to have the sex appeal of a Tecmo plastic surgery addict.

Most of the class seemed to really like the story behind my game.

Revenant mod for Neverwinter Nights.

I'm not actually that picky about game protagonists, as long as they don't run away from me, saying stuff I don't want and picking quests I don't care about. I'd like to play as a ghost or a sin-eater. Or a werewolf. But those would include the certain world I want them from (World of Darkness) so it's not only a protagonist.

I would create a protagonist that has no talents in any manner what so ever a regular joe/jane, and make the general population think he is a great hero that is going save the world from evil. This world of course filled with magic and mystical beasts but modern (like people have cars but have to still worry about dragons and rogue sorceresses). The protagonist has to talk, run, and rely on people who actually have powers to save the world but while keeping his hero like status. also one last thing have the game be like ME2 except a whole lot more companion options and a relationship meter oh and less shooting people and being a hero.

fair enoug, though I will admit having a good protagonist game make a game more enjoyable

take for example saints row 2, probably wouldnt have been nearly as fun If I couldnt have played as a version of me covered in tatoos and weilding a Katana

Darksiders I think could have benifited from having a protagonist that was jsut a little more relatable.... I dont know its its him or not but I do find it al little hard to empathise with whats going on, I guess its also because its one of those games where the plot seems to be leaving you out, in other words it feels like sitting there while two people talk about somthing you know nothing about

Call me crazy, but I've always wanted to play as a burly soldier guy with short brown hair and a badass attitude. So totally awesome, brah!

...

Sorry. That wasn't funny at all.

*ahem*

Seriously though, how about putting the player in the role of a robot or AI who gains sentience over the course of the game?

At the start they would see everything in basic symbols. Objectives are green circles, obstacles or hazards are red squares, your path is a green line and so on. The tutorial would involve basic movement and fetch objectives in the simplified environment. However, as the player learns, the environment gradually changes to resemble the real world. The more you learn and interact, the faster the change. Deviating from assigned tasks or finding new ways to accomplish them would also accelerate the change.

That could possibly work... maybe?

My game would feature a buff armoured space marine you is contantly making one liner's. The game would start with him walking onto the battle field in all is armoured glory. Charging at the enemy only to be shot in the chest then spending the next 20 minutes crying like a little girl as he slowly bleeds out. What that doesn't sound like fun? if there two thing's the games market seem to love these day's it's armoured marines and realism so I thought I would combine the two.

Let's accept that all types of hero have been done. The only place you can stray is how you mix them together and what the minor details on them are.

In this case I would argue that it would be nice to see a morally neutral hero who honestly doesn't care about the situation, but isn't greedy and isn't trying to ruin things either.

He is surrounded by goodies who are absolutely hateful towards perceived injustices, and are willing to practice savage acts of brutality for the "good" of all.

The enemies are simple minded and barbaric. They absolutely hate the goodies for the savage acts that are inflicted.

There will be no heavy handed morality where people learn to put aside their differences and tolerate each other. We will be witness to otherwise kind, caring people who act with dignity and respect be driven to bloodlust and rage when confronted with the enemy. There is no reconciliation. There is only war against "evil". It will become obvious that many of the things we hate the enemy for are lies, but nobody but perhaps the player will be willing to recognize this, and pointing out the lies and wrongness of the campaign is suicide (literally, and if it is brought up then the player character will DIE absolutely and with no hope of escape, at the hands of his comrades).

---

But seriously, I think we need to see a pure incarnation of good fighting against other perceptions of the pure incarnation of good in a fight to the death over what is really "good"

I'd go the other way from these super trained heroes and just get a midget, a fat dude, guy in a wheel chair, ... and any other sort of improbable heroes, they could just have the best quirkiest skills and personalities(and an actual fucking story to tell).

Also we need more games where you can become a dragon, that shit is awesome.

Tomboyish woman with short white hair and cold personality yet strong sense of justice.
Just like my Dragon age 1/2, Neverwinter nights 1/2, Morrowind, Oblivion character.

Issue is when your hero is physically incapable of doing what is necessary for the game.

Though, being a game, your fat dude in a wheelchair that turns into a dragon (a fat dragon in a wheelchair) could have booster rockets on that wheelchair. Depending on the genre he could use either intelligence or charm or magic (though I'd prefer something different) to do the things he needs to do.

I think it would be interesting to start off as a newborn god. Think Black&White with less micromanagement. You'd start off as an animal or person and perform small miracles to villages to gain followers, while avoiding other gods and demons in the world who will try to destroy you, steal your followers, or tempt you with power at a steep price. After gaining enough power and worship you can develop a religion based on yourself and work on managing relations with other gods. Then you can go all "Hand in the sky" but large portions of your time spent will be among your people.

A family man who comes home to his family in the denouement and you spend some time not doing combat type things like the earlier part of the game but just tending to your farm or playing with your kids. A bit of an opposite of Heavy Rain. I'd love that sort of ending as I'm sick of the endless, relentless killing that passes for "fun" gameplay.

What about Samurai Warriors?

Not only does it have samurai but also ninjas, ronin, mercenaries, shoguns and daiymo.
