@Senneca something particularly wrong with Knights of the old republic or galactic battle grounds?
KOTR was absolute dogshit. I regretfully bought both games on the recommendation of a friend, and the avalanche of fanboygasm reviews, but never even finished the first one because it was so terrible. I'm sure whatever Galactic Battle Grounds was, was even worse since at least I'd HEARD of KOTR before this thread. As far as I'm concerned, the last decent star wars game was Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Everything after that just needs to go away.
@Senneca
just because you haven't heard of Galactic battle grounds doesn't mean it's shit .thats like saying i haven't heard of Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear so it must be shitter than Rainbow 6 Seige cause i've at least heard of Seige.

10/10 master troll

PS i've also never heard of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II before this thread so...

Hard to answer that... on one hand, there are franchises that I enjoyed a lot the first games but didn't like the direction they took on the sequels. Trying to find a bad one there is hard because, as I said, I enjoyed the first games.

So the only franchises I can say I don't like are those that I didn't enjoy since the beginning, or never say the appeal. If I didn't enjoy the first games I am not likely to continue with it, so I can't say they are still bad.

A franchise I can't get behind though (and only played on passing with friends or demos): the Musou (Warriors) series. It is not only that I find the gameplay repetitive, pointless and boring; fighting against hordes after hordes of identical cannon fodder that are brain dead and barely fight back with the same one-two combo, the only reason to fight them is to clear progress bars, and battles being pointless as I might as well be fighting bowling pins; but also they are becoming endemic to a lot of Japanese franchises: now Dragon Quest, Zelda and Valkyrie Chronicles only exists on modern consoles as Musou style games (with the closest to their traditional genre being on handhelds or previous generations)

Well, I rarely put a lot of effort into a series that I don't like. If I'm not into a game I'm not going to continue playing other games in the series. And I'm not going to judge a franchise based on one game.

The only example I can think of is Tomb Raider. I keep going back to it because I feel like I should like it. I've attempted many games in the series and have never finished any of them because I always lose interest. So it's my pick for least favourite franchise, not because it's inherently bad, but because I want to like it and it always lets me down.

The sensitivity in this thread is amazing. I think we should stop these threads just so I can stop seeing how boring people are with their one joke.
How is making a joke sensitive? in fact how is anyone in this thread sensitive? just because they make a joke? I honestly don't get your reasoning here. maybe provide some examples? idk.

It's not the joke, it's the reaction. The same reaction to this kind of thread which has happened many times before. It happens because some flip out over either the use of the word 'over-rated', or just because it's a 'negative thread'.

Where are these people who are flipping out because this is a negative thread? Cause I don't see them.

Do you usually take everything word for word?

It just seems to me that the comments you're complaining about are just expressing an opinion. Not
bashing any one who in particular. Idk I just don't get it.

And I expressed my opinion. Though I don't remember saying they bashed anyone, just that they can't help making the same comments in the same fashion probably for the millionth time now.

For me, it's:

1. Borderlands
Not even close to being as funny as it thinks it is, combat is tedious, and its quite obviously meant to be played in groups. The problem with that last one is that the only reason you need extra people is because the enemies have more health. That's really it. If you're building a game around multiplayer, make it so that multiplayer enhances the strengths of your game rather than just hiding the weaknesses (see Payday 2 on how this can be done right).

2. GTA
I feel like there is a lot of potential in this series (especially for me, since gangster dramas and heist films are some of my favorite genres) but they seem to be missing the mark too much lately. GTA IV was boring when it wasn't just being crap and GTA V has an atrocious story, that particularly annoying brand of "satire" which doesn't understand subtlety, a ton of bugs, and simply dubious game design choices. Multiplayer was a neat idea, but its still too limiting IMO.

3. Fire Emblem
Ok, less one of my least faves and more just something I've been getting increasingly disappointed in. The military tactics campaign where anyone can die and any named character has the potential to be a friend or foe has begun taking a backseat to a dating sim. Maybe I'm just not the target audience.

Counter strike(s)
Just...what... i dont understand the reasons why this keeps being popular year after year, it's the same dull deathmatch on those same dull maps over and over again. No originality, no persistence. Relic that should have stayed in the past, but if we wanna dig that past, exactly what makes this better option than to play say, even the old unreal tournament?
