We all have a favorite game, and I'm sure we all like to gush about it as much as the next gamer. But what about the bad qualities? What moment in your favorite video game really stands out as being very sucky to you?

For me, I would have to say the forced stealth section near the beginning of the Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker when you lose your sword as my least favorite moment of my favorite game. All I could think about near the beginning of the game was getting the chance to explore islands and slay evil monsters and whatnot, only to have my sword taken away from me.

D:

I loved that part Nuuu! It forced you to think on you're feet :)

OT: Anyway, I'd have to say the great bay temple in Majora's Mask. When I first played it, it was pretty difficult and that's why I didn't like it, but even now that I know it like the back of my hand, I still don't enjoy it very much.

I don't like having to run around switching all the currents to get to the boss. It feels less like beating a temple and more like a chore

The parts in the great bay leading up to it were brilliant, I just wasn't a fan of the temple. In fact it's part of the reason I don't like water levels in general.

Ninja Gaiden Black.

The goddamn military level. Machine guns chip you while blocking (not a big deal really), rocket launchers, tanks, attack helicopter, and those annoying as fuck robot drone things that shoot lazers. This is the only level where it is required to use a bow and arrow, and I absolutely dread having to fight the bosses (because I suck with the bow because this is the only time you use it).

But seriously, fuck those guys.

Champions Of Norrath Return To Arms.
The cave full of invincible rat men that you have to sneak past going through.
It's about as awful as sneaking in a game that was not designed for stealth as you can imagine.

Well, in Mass Effect 2 there is the one part where...no, I guess that's not too bad. I could say...nah, I can't really complain about that section, really. Maybe...nope. There is no part of that game I dislike. Not to say that it's perfect, but any problem I have with it comes from things like isolated moments of awkward dialogue or graphical glitches or something way too general to specify to one single area. I guess it really is the greatest game ever. :D

I suppose I could refer to ME3 if I wanted to expand "game" to "game series so closely tied to one overarching story and set of themes that it could be considered one game." In that case, the reaper destroyer on Rannoch is balls in my face. What a dumb so-called boss battle. It was vexing, infuriating, and fit into that game mechanically like a square buttplug into a round ass hole.

Oooh, nice question.

Front Mission 3.
Tutorial parts in the beginning. Dude, I've played that game more times that I'm willing to admit, you don't have to make go through same fucking unskippable tutorial every single time! I know how to setup my wanzer dammit!

Dino Crisis 2.
Underwater level. Heeeeey, let's take fast, spastic, almost reaction based game and put it into slow and sluggish section! Yaaaay! And also, if you don't have enough money to buy a very specific gun, you won't be able to complete it!

Persona 4.
"Investigation" parts. And by "Investigation" I mean talking to very specific NPCs scattered around the town in very particular order at very particular dates. Fuck that.

Okay, I don't have a literal favorite game, so I'm just gonna say games I like and am good at.

Destroy All Humans 2! - Okay, I hate escort missions, but the funny thing is that these aren't the worst thing in this game. In fact, with the idea that not only is Crypto heavily-armed and dangerous, but so is Natalya the Russian spy? It means you have that rare moment of a competent escortee who actually takes the pressure off. No, here's what I hate in this game of mine: Protection missions. Oh, well I have to protect hippy communes or some other important thing from whatever enemies feel they have to interfere. If I allow the thingy (or multiple thingies) get destroyed, things that are basically defenseless if I can't deal with them at the moment, I fail the mission. Extra harsh if my weapons can actually destroy them. Super-harsh when you have one in the Japanese city with...local cops, local military, two gangs of Yakuza, the KGB, AND MOTHERFUCKING NINJAS (on account of that 'Darkvoodle thing'). I outright CHEAT to beat that one. I mass-hypnotize and possess a cop to call off emergencies, barracade the road they come in on to prevent them from getting too close, and then run up to the hilltop to thwart their range of sight while keeping the last and farthest-away hovel in sight. I make them forget there was a mission.

Don't have a particular favorite game but here's a few:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask -
That stupid fetch quests for all the Zora eggs. You never have enough bottles so you have to go back and forth to the Pirate's base. It's such blatant padding.

Super Mario Galaxy -
That one purple coin mission that takes place on that 8-bit Mario thingy. It took me forever to beat it.

Metal Gear Solid -
Two things. The infinite stairway that you have to run up for like 10 minutes while infinitely-respawning dudes chase and attack you the whole time. And the 2nd Raven fight. I thought I was supposed to use the Stinger and Nikita missiles and I died over 30 times. But after I tried using the C4 I got it in one try.

No More Heroes -

The Bad Girl boss. I hate that boss. She has so much health and it quickly turns into a grind and she has so many inta-kill moves that are complete BS. Took me over 2 hours to finally beat her. Also the Speed Buster boss was lame as hell. How were you supposed to know you had to knock over some random phone line onto her.

I'll just give it for two games since I can't really decide which one is my favorite:

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Probably the dream puzzle. I want to say that it is the major battle on the elevator, but once you get it down it is actually a lot of fun. However, the dream segment is sort of just a time waster in the way it is set up. It's not even really the puzzle itself, as it has a nice mystic feel to it. It's the fact they feel the need to have you run down a ridiculously long staircase with absolutely nothing to do but run down that staircase.

Xenoblade Chronicles
If we're counting anything that isn't mandatory, it would have to be trying to find the Black Liver Bean in the Bionis Interior. There's no NPC that will give it to you for a trade, and it takes forever for one to spawn in the Bionis Interior. All the while, this music [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXTzkj-sU4g] just makes it feel like the developers are laughing at your attempts to get it.

If we're only talking about mandatory segments, that is very hard. I guess it would have to be any segment in which you have to take on about 6-10 enemies at once. I'm not sure if it is better designed for those who don't zoom the camera in as much as I do, but it still feels like there are too many enemies for what the combat mechanics can handle. Not to mention, the game lags like crazy if you try to use any "flashy" moves.

Final Fantasy VIII. Ultimecia's Castle. The puzzles are dull and make very little sense. Plus, by that point in the game I really just want to get to the end boss fight.

Getting the Stray Bead from defeating Blockhead Grande in Okami HD. I am literally 1% away from 100% completion and it makes me mad.

Dragon Age: Origins. The Fade.

Right now I'm playing the Last of Us, and I feel that there just too many stealth sections. Hell, I feel like there's more stealth here than in Assassins Creed.

Well that's easy. Atlantica in both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.

In 1, the controls are annoying and frustrating at times, and the enemies are a pain in the ass. Hollow Bastion after you lose the Keyblade and have to rely on the Beast to kill everything is less annoying.

In 2, it's a goddam rhythm game! I'll go ahead and assume everyone can understand why a rhythm game stuck into the middle of an action RPG would be such a horrible thing.

FFVII the great glacier geez that place was a pain in the ass. I know my way around now and can get everything there fairly comfortably but I still dislike the place.

Well...Bed of Chaos in Dark Souls (although more recently I've been dreading starting a new character because I have to do the whole Catacombs -> CSSR -> getting back out of the Catacombs -> Forest -> Parish -> Depths), but to be more interesting, although it isn't my favourite game, Genji: Days of the Blade features a cast of 4, being an agile swordsman, a longer-ranged but weak princess, a jack-of-all-trades (Susanoo) and a tank - Benkei. Now I had gone through the majority of the game using Benkei mainly, and got really good with the timings and just demolished everything. Then at some point later in the story...

They just fucking take him away! Whoosh, like that! They take the one tank in the party. And you don't get him back 'til practically the final boss.

Very annoying.

The beginning of Dragon Quest VIII (up until after the first boss)

I really dislike grinding and I always find myself doing it in the beginning of this game when grinding is the most boring.

Bioshock Infinite:
The freaking Siren. That ghost fight, why did you make it so hard? Funny thing is, I love everything about it, the sound design the concept, the visuals, everything except the fight itself. The premise is pretty cool, do I fight the underlings or do I cut off the head of the snake? Problem is, the head of the snake is a brick covered in kevlar and it's hard enough chewing through that without five guys blasting me the whole time.

L.A. Noire:
That scavenger hunt at the end of the homicide desk. I just don't get it. Yeah, it's a change of pace and it's definitely interesting story-wise but I just don't like playing it for some reason.

DMC: That weird rotating puzzle near the end. What's up with that? Can't I just slash through some more baddies? That would be preferable.

At least it's optional both times. And honestly, I liked II's Atlantica more than the first one... In basically every way.

Of course, since Kingdom Hearts is my favorite franchise ever of all time and you beat me to the obvious one,

KH1's early Hollow Bastion. Having to essentially depend on Beast for protection, doing those puzzles... It's not quite so bad now, but back when I was 8 years old, playing the game for the first time, I was not exactly pleased.

I also didn't care for Symphony of Sorcery in Dream Drop Distance. Replacing attack sounds with stock musical notes completely ruined the aesthetic for me. And I'm not such a big fan of the classical pieces used. The Chernabog fight was cool, though.

Special mention goes to everything about 358/2 Days. The gameplay is really bad, the graphics are atrocious even given the DS's constraints (Re:coded probably uses the same engine, so I don't know why I think that one looks better) and the plot is paced pretty poorly; it only gets going about 70% through the game. Needless to say, they made the right call to make it a movie in 1.5 HD.

Recently been playing through that for the first time. It definitely wasn't the most well-implemented idea.

There are a lot of things FFVII could have done better, unfortunately.

I'll go with Final Fantasy X and Seymour battles. I've defeated him when he was alive. And then when he turned undead. That's cool. But doing it two more times is a bit... umm... "stretched"? Is that a word I am looking for?

Overall, he was overused as a boss character.

Re:Coded was built from the ground up. It notonly had it's own engine, but all of the art assets were remade for it instead of using existing models. A lot of work for a rerelease of a mobile game if you ask me.

I liked 358/2 Days. Then again, I liked the original CoM more than the 3D rerelease.

I hate when developers change sounds. It messes with the flow of the game. You get used to certain sounds and use them as audio cues, and when they mess with that, it's jarring.
