So Escapists, what is your least played class in RPGs and why? It can be from an MMO, a Action RPG, a JRPG or a tabletop RPG like Dungeons & Dragons or Shadowrun.

Keep in mind, you don't have to hate the class, it just has to be one that you don't give a lot of attention to.

I don't really play stealthy classes as much as I'd like to, e.g. Rogues or Assassins. Whenever I roll a melee class it's usually one that can wear a reasonable amount of armour and can take a bit of punishment.

I never play mages. Nothing against them, I just find them unappealing. I like some armor and I like being able to do my stuff more than once a day. I'm going to finally give them a try when I start Dragon's Dogma today.

Rogues are my least played, hard spellcasters my most played.

Nobody covered in cowskin and carrying sharp sticks is ever gonna match the guy who can open up a fissure to hell with his mind.

Seriously, this should be every mage's theme song:

Rogue: I can climb up to his window quietly, jimmy it open, slip in and then stab him in the temple.

Mage: I can turn myself invisible, teleport directly into his room, stop time- then banish him to the vacuum of space.

I dont play mages. I like to get close up and personal with my big axe. Or sword. Or metal bar. Or car. Or baseball bat.

Mages. I tend to steer clear. The one time I did try it in BG2 I rather enjoyed it.
Hell even in my first ever table top I recently tried I didn't do much mage stuff and I was playing Mage - The Awakening.

I don't like rogues or stealth classes. Why? Because of how stealth is done in most games

aka, a button that you click and turn invisible with a 99% movement speed reduction

And everything revolves around being in stealth, so your slow the entire game. Its infuriating.

I'm usually an inbetween of mage/melee. There's usually one class with magically charged melee. Those are the most fun in my opinion. I like melee characters if their skills have cool animations/particle effects, but I hate vanilla melee (aka diablo 3 barbarian). I like casters, but not as much because usually you have no utilities to make fighting melee fair. Either you have slower cast time while someone attacks you, or you have no health/melee/slow to stop them from annihilating you in close combat. Or you have a mana bar that you need to micromanage, and the melee only has cooldowns or some shit. It kinda sucks.

I don't really like mages, I prefer to be more of a down to earth type of guy, more Batman then Doctor Strange.

Warriors, though I have started to dislike mages quite a bit... how do you say it...
Overpowered.
Somebody is about to die by loss of blood? There's a spell for that.
Somebody needs help to kill a ghost? There's a spell for that.
Somebody has died? There's a freakin' spell for that too.

And I used to like mages, but I noticed that they can easily become the most unfair players in games in general EVER.

Depending on the game in question, either the mage or rogue. Games that offer a class system tend to also have a strong narrative focus, which is why I play them. So classes that require either intense combat micro-management or a lot of forethought in creating a build for them don't appeal to me that much, so I usually just play as a warrior or something similar and brute force my way through. Although I do occasionally mix it up out of sheer boredom, or because another system works better for me,like how mages in Arcanum have such an easy time compared to everybody else.

I'm never a soldier/knight/whatever. I tend to be either a stealthy badass or a nerdy mage who runs away from enemies to hit them from a distance.

I don't really think I have one. Different games do different classes better and I'll generally go for whatever works best. I can feel badass and amazing whether I'm stabbing things, shooting them with fireballs, or smiting them with holy fire.

For example, in WoW I played pretty much every class at some point during my time there, depending on the "Flavour of the Month" cycle and what my raid team needed.

In terms of what I prefer, if there's a Necromancer/Summoner class I'll almost always go for that first.

Mages. In video games, I don't like having to keep an eye on my recharge times while making sure the enemies don't get too close. In tabletop, I hate having to keep track of spells per day. On both video games and tabletop, I don't have the patience to get through the weak lower levels with pitiful hitpoints and limited spells to get to the phenomenal cosmic powers of the higher levels.

I don't usually like to play 'fighter/warrior' types. I don't particularly have anything against them, actually I like to have one in the party if I have the option to. But playing them? No not really. I just don't think it's fun to just... flat out attack something. The closest I've gotten is playing a 'templar' like role, a melee tank with some healing spells.

Othewise I play mage. Difficult at times... But fun. =)

Edit: Oh and my absolute favorite are support mages... Debuff, buff, heal... that kind of thing.

Warriors, particularly the heavily-armored types like Paladins and Knights. I've always preferred mages and rogues because they take some thinking to play, their answer to everything isn't 'hit this repeatedly until it dies/breaks'.

Probably warrior/knight etc.

Not really sure why, i guess the idea of handling magic has just always been pretty appealing to me. Plus if it's meant to be roleplaying and i want to make a character to reflect myself then making the character a big burly guy with lots of strength and stamina would be so far from the truth as you could probably get. Plus i'm a massive coward so i don't want to get into the combat, but rather stay back and lob bombs as an alchemist, cast spells as a mage/sorcerer or hide and shoot arrows as an archer type class.

Right below warriors and such we find clerics because while i like to stay back from combat i like to take part in it and clerics tend to be more support type characters from what i've seen. Good think in our tabletop party we've got a guy who loves doing that kind of crap >_>

Mages. I play all classes, but mages significantly less than anything else. I just don't like managing MP when I could be cleaving evil with a big sword.

Hybrid classes.

During Burning Crusade days, I leveled a Shaman to max level, wanted to be ranged offensive caster, but groups wouldn't take me because I wasn't spec'd as a healer. Eventually I said "screw it" and leveled a mage. That's when I discovered I like any pure class with a clearly defined role. What I don't like is the jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

In WoW, my favorite classes were mage, priest, rouge, or warrior.

In DnD, I liked being sorcerer, rouge, barbarian, fighter, or cleric. (I'm talking 3rd Ed. here, I don't know anything about 4th.)

I often lean more towards classes that specialize in stealth or ranged combat, but I occasionally have the overwhelming want to be a big armored beefcake right up in the front lines; it depends on my mood.

Never been one for spellcasters. Sure they get powerful if they survive to 6th level, but I don't like playing that way.
