Had an awful moment during Blood Harvest where you have to open the alarmed door during the tunnel. We'd triggered some tank music, but were confused when no tank came. Eventually, the music stopped and we assumed he'd keeled over and died because he couldn't get to use. We psych up for the horde attack, pop the door open and... you guessed it, tank was there waiting for us. Between it and the horde, we didn't stand a chance.

Best moment I've ever had was just a random piece of dialogue that happened to be perfectly timed. I was playing Louis and had died to a tank. The rest of the team had backtracked somewhat in the process of killing him and was proceeding through the level when I spawned inside a cupboard. Moments later, Francis mutters "Damn, just when I was getting to like that guy" xD

Four words/numbers:
.5 frames per second.

I'd get two frames per second if I stared at the floor.
I hate this laptop...

2nd level of no mercy with the door that attracts the horde. We set up a postion with all the red proane tanks. The button is pressed and i denote the canisters setting fire to mots of the room - then a smoker drags me though all my own falmes to a spot where my teammates cant fire into and i get mobbed by the horde. They cant come to me because of the fire.
And just before that happened i had said "We're doing well, never know it to be this easy"
i wonder if thed director heard me....
I also have the abilty to say tank, just before the music or tank itslef shows up - no matter where it comes from. Peeps i play with say im cheating but i just keep my ears open.

For me it was when I was playing L4D with a buddy on Death Toll (I think it's Death Toll, whatever the level is when you get rescued by a boat). We were hiding out in the last house waiting for the rescue boat to arrive and the basic "pour hundreds of bullets into anything that moves" tactic ensued. I covered the back door while my buddy took cover inside of a bathroom and the two AI held the main room. We fought off hordes of Boomer induced zombies and everything is going well until an unforeseen amount of zombies pour in and my friend and I are forced into the upstairs of the house. However we weren't safe even up there. A tank suddenly appears through an upstairs doorway and incapacitates me within seconds. My friend manages to lure him downstairs where the AI start to deal with him and returns to help me up. I managed to hold off the horde from the ground as he helped me up, and then we headed downstairs.

The tank had driven the AI out onto the back deck of the house and with the help of myself and my buddy we took it down. By now the rescue boat had arrived and we begin our journey to salvation. As we make our way out the front door of the house and as we make our way to the dock I turn to see what might be following us. It was then that I saw an awesome scene that would have been a great advertising screen shot for the game. It was dark so all the zombies were just silhouettes. There's a massive group of zombies running full tilt at us with several boomers running along with them. A tank is leading them holding a chunk of concrete to throw at us, and in the background you can see the dark form of a hunter jumping over the whole group. I can't really describe it that well but it was sweet.

After a brief moment of admiring the scene I was quickly overrun by a group of horde that boxed me in and continuously wailed on me. My health was getting low and my friends were no where to be seen. I was about to go down when the tank charged in and smacked me up-side the head and luckily launched me straight onto the boat dock. I landed mere yards from the boat, and so with 5 health I limp towards it. As soon as I get on I throw a Molotov on the dock to slow down the zombies. By now the 2 AI's are already waiting on the boat and together we laid down a huge amount of fire with myself kneeling in the front like three hero's making a last stand. Whatever zombies weren't burned by the Molotov's fire were quickly gunned down.

By now I'm thinking my friend's dead, but suddenly he runs through the wall of flame cause by my Molotov, on fire with burning zombies all around him and a burning tank right behind him. He just barely made it onto the boat and we sailed off safely, leaving a bullet filled and burning tank alone on the dock surrounded by the charred corpses of many lesser zombies with a wall of fire at his back.

So yeah that's what happened to me!

I was Playing with a bunch of people i have never met before. For the hell of it I turn on my mike and say. They are telling me to kill you. My teamates turn around. I immediatly shotgunned them all and finished the level all by myself.

But another time me and my friends were in perfect unison. We never team killed or Let a zombie melee us. we were doing perfect strategy on expert. We were gods.

Blood Harvest 2nd level. I was playing with bots because i was lazy so i exited the safe room and went down the hallway. Not far down the hallway is a generator room. I looked in there for molotovs or anything. So i begin searching the room and i spot this tiny tiny gap between the generator and the wall, barely enough room in the gap for two people. As i move up to the gap, the horde music begins playing and 40 horde flood out of the two person sized gap.

Confused the hell out of me.

I blew them all away with my shotgun and went to inspect the gap, i was wrong. It only big enough for one person. WTF?

I was at the end of the campaign where you get picked up by the boat, and the boat had just arrived. Sadly one of my friends didn't realize this and was continuing to fight the horde of zombies charging at his soft and squishy self. So being the nice guys that we are, we decided to help him and try to get him to the boat. Right after we go out of the backdoor a tank was waiting for us. So we immediately make a break for the front door, only to be greeted by the horde. So we leap out of the window one by one. Our last member however was jumped by a hunter right before he jumped. We knew we couldn't save him, because he had really low health, and we had to get the hell out of there, So we abandon my friend playing as Francis, and continue to the boat. The tank in the back apparently was still waiting for us, and starts wailing on my friend playing as Zoey. we decide to abandon him as well, and try to limp to safety on the boat. About 3/4 of the way on the dock, my friend is attacked by a smoker. Once again, being a nice guy...I abandon him as well. I'm on the ship expecting to be the only one to survive, only to see my friend attacked by the tank save the guy from the smoker. And they are limping on, and I'm giving them covering fire. But they are moving to slow, and the horde is right behind them. I throw a Molotov right behind them, hoping to assist them as much as possible. So my two remaining allies charge to the boat, a flaming horde right behind them, whit me kneeling down, pumping every round I had of my assault rifle into the horde. They get on the boat, and we sail to safety. It was most epic. Oh and we laughed at my friend that was jumped by the hunter of course.

2 Players, 2 AI

So we're heading to the airport and we're in the parking garage. Of all the god awful sounds that my speakers could be producing, I hear the dreaded sound of a Tank. In the ensuing "run for your lives," my friend was hit by a truck... Yup. So luckily the tank was distracted by the AI for a few moments and I run forward to help my Incapped friend to his feet. Just as he was getting up, the two AI decide to hide with us behind the truck, where the Tank just punched it and Incapped all 4 of us in one go.

I had a good one last night on the 2nd last level of No Mercy on expert.

We finally made it up that stupid elevator, and due to our team not being extremely good, 3/4 of us where pretty hurt, no molotoves or pipe bombs.

We clear out the first little bit and make it to the forklift. Suddenly, we hear the tank music start going, and we all start panicking. 1 second, 2 seconds.... nothing... Then we see the wall infront of us blow up and fly off the building and hear a huge roar. 1/2 my team is already running full speed back to the elevator, expecting the tank to come running around the corner and abuse us with its iron fist.

Meanwhile I have no idea that they've taken off leaving me sitting by myself ready to fight the tank. Expect the tank never showed up. About 30 seconds later I'm laughing and the chickens as they start comming back. We find a gas can right around the next corner, and the plan is to light him and then like crazy and play ring around the rosy.

We finally were able to bait him into running over the gas can and we successfully light him up. We all start running back to the elevator shaft as fast as we could. When we get there each of us takes 1 enterance, and we plan to just keep running in cirlces around him. He shows up.

When he gets to the first enterance he runs right up to it, and one of my friends start screaming "hes comming, RUUN!!!!" except he decided to stop and throw some concrete into the hole, incapping one team mate and then running over toward me on the other side. My two teammates are panicking and trying to get out. I'm screaming on coms "hes here, other way other way" due to their panick they run face first into him, giving a little wimper and swiftly dying.

I played the demo.
Was that meant to be witty? I mean, it could be you saying that you didn't like the game, and so that makes even the demo a horror story; although, that seems a bit excessive, don't you think?

The good people at Princetown define "wit" as:
a message whose ingenuity or verbal skill or incongruity has the power to evoke laughter.
I doubt that what you did there was wit though, since it didn't make me laugh. Maybe wit is a subjective thing, you know? I didn't find it funny, but maybe a lot of other people will. I dunno, maybe I'm just too young to understand that humour.

Of course, staying on that age thing, maybe wit is something you develop as you get older. I've seen plenty of young people defined as 'witty', though. Including a great many members of my peer group, so maybe it's something you lose with age if it isn't practised enough?

Having said all that:

G. K. Chesterton on wit said:
Wit is a sword; it is meant to make people feel the point as well as see it.
I Do see your point; however, I'm not really feeling it. Maybe if you explained more rather than presuming understanding with a fleeting pseudo-witty comment?

I was playing online, without a mic, on No Mercy Expert. The other three people with me all had mics, and we were in the Subway (pattern much?), when we heard a Witch crying. So, of course, since I can't object (as I don't have a mic), they choose me to go and see where it is.

So I'm walking along with the other kid (either he was a kid or he was a female), and we found out that the Witch was right in the hallway out of the subway. So once again, the three of them start debating. And then the Horde showed up, and someone fired, startling the witch.

They freak out, and I go through standard witch-slaying protocol; throw molotov, fire shotgun like a madman while running backwards like said madman. I ran -right- through the horde, but thankfully, someone had gotten hit by a Boomer, so they just let me waltz on through. It was a beautiful dance of flaming death.

P.S. I'm 90% sure this has been done before
Sorry, phased out at "without a mic". Expert without a mic? I'm sorry, once again, but I despise people without mics on Left4Dead. Even on Easy, I hate them. It's a game of communication, and how can you communicate without a microphone?

I was playing verses mode and was on the hospital in the building site area, right near the safe house, only one other player still alive, the other two having been taken out by a tank back in the large open reception hospital entrance room, behind me some way catching up. i had about 20 health, no medikits or pain pills and an assault rifle with about 10 rounds left when i heard that all too scarily familiar crying sound of the witch

She was in a small room off to the side with a left turn facing and i managed to stroll past without any trouble and when i got to the end of the corridor turned to see where my companion was while also keeping an eye on the witch.

He ran past her unaware and came nearly up to me, then for some reason he turned round and he spotted the witch. Now i had no headset on at the time so you can imagine my horror when he ran up to the witch, obvoiusly unaware of the death he was about to recieve and shot her.

Naturally, knowing i was done for a spun around and hightailed it out of there, hoping to grab some points for the team for surviving and was home free, the safehouse door in front of me, no zombies in sight. Victory was mine!!!

Or so i thought. Playing Verses of course, the infected players had obviously been watching the whole thing, and deciding not to attack me when i was a sitting duck waiting for my "ahem" buddy, one of them decided to ambush me as a hunter as i went into the safehouse!

Damn shame that, such a mental and exhilarating match with me ending up in pieces inside the safehouse.

Also another time, also on verses, no mercy, 1st part i began, loaded up and went in the building down the stairs to be told my fellow survivors needed assistance, already!

Went back onto the rooftop to see a hunter on one, a smoker on another and the third hanging off the side of the building.

Of course i only had a second to see that and no time to react as i got pounced on by a hunter as soon as i came through the door. 4 survivors dead at the start point, 0 points. Funnily enough the whole team left the server, myself included as i was so disgusted with the other guys rubbishness, though i didnt exactly save them did i?

I don't really have any horror stories because, to mangle the review from penny arcade is all about shouting oh shit into a headset mic.

If I have a moment, it might be when I single handedly saved our team from certain doom while playing adverserial.

We had neared the end of the round as the survivors without taking any serious damage (green health across the board, 3 medkits left). Obviously we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. Then we get the rumblings of a tank when a pair of hunters dove into the party and began gleefully tearing apart two of my fellow survivors. While I and the other survivor were processing this displeasing turn of events the both of us were hit by a long distance concrete block and only seconds later a smoker pulled the other survivor away.

I managed to quickly dispatch the smoker only to have the hapless survivor quickly meet the fist of the tank, incapacitating him. In what can only be described as a magic combination of my most badass gaming skill demonstration ever, shocking bad luck and at least a handful of bad decisions I managed to kill the two hunters all while dodging the tan (mostly). I dropped the tank with a whopping 4 health only to have a boomer explode right on top of me. Somehow, excellent ground cover from the incapacitated survivors combined with well placed shotgun rounds got me through the rush with 2 health remaining. The 5 seconds it took to pick up a survivor and the 5 additional seconds it took to bandage myself back up to green might be the longest 12 consectutive seconds in video game history for me.

Actually I was in a versus on No Mercy the other day but I was on a different party on Live so I couldn't hear or speak to my team of Survivors. It was the 2nd-last chapter - you're inside the hospital and you have to find the lift.

So I figured "screw it" and ran for it. I don't know if it was just because the infected were humans and they didn't notice me, but I got all the way to the elevator before I heard a Hunter from behind me. So I ran into a room and waited for him. I think it must've been the host, because after I killed him and ran to the elevator a vote was called to kick me.

Yeah, I wasn't down with my team seeing them through the hospital. But I was still helping them! I called the lift so it was all ready by the time they caught up with me! And being booted out the server was the thanks I recieved. Sad Face.
