I saw the topic is up on escapist for nominees for GOTY (game of the year) but only saw two game on the list i'd consider good(and one of them i didn't actually play yet).. So I decided to list my list of games that should be considered for GOTY. (note: all of my games i've played/will be playing soon were on PS3 even if though all of the games listed are multi-platform)

-Dragon Age:Inquisition
-Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution
-Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
-Legend of Korra
-South Park: The Stick of Truth
-BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma
and
-Watch Dogs

So what's your list of games that should be considered for game of the year? on consoles, PC, Steam, downloadable only.. it's your choice... so.. sound off! or just type them in.. might be easier :D

Seeing as I haven't switched to PS4 any other next gen console yet and I haven't played Farcry 4 yet. There is one game of the year. South Park: The Stick of Truth. Its fun, gross and even though its short, it is an enjoyable game. The only other game to come close was Tales of Symphonia Chronicles but that is a re-release of a 10 year old game so I'm not counting that.

Other than that, Watch_Dogs was so boring that it got traded in for Wolfenstein: The New Order. That was ok, there were bits that I liked and bits that I didn't so much. And the final boss fight is one of the worst things I've ever played, I actually turned the difficulty down so I could say I finished the game. I haven't started Farcry 4 yet, so come the actual end of the year, this might be my game of the year.

And that's it, I've mostly been picking up and playing games that haven't reviewed that well or badly cheaply to see if I could get any enjoyment out of them. And finishing games that I've been meaning to get around to finishing or replaying others.

I tentatively nominate "This War of Mine" for being able to out-Spec Ops: The Line Spec Ops: The Line.

My list:

-Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
-Ascendant
-Insurgency

I honestly don't know which I'd pick. SoM has extremely fun combat imo, but not a great story. Ascendant is a very good rogue-like in my opinion. And Insurgency is a great MP shooter.

There are close to two dozen 2014 games that I wish I played so that's going to color my opinion. Some games, like Final Fantasy Curtain Call, and Project Diva F 2nd, I can extrapolate how they play due to the amount of time I put into their predecessors. Then there are games like octodad and the pair of Five Nights at Freddies games that I've watched lets-plays of...I basically know how they work and don't feel much of a need to play them but I would probably still say Five Nights is a game of the year contender due to how it gripped so many people this year. Anyway, here's a list:

Hyrule Warriors
Kirby's Triple Deluxe
Mario Kart 8
NES Remix 1 & 2 together
Shovel Knight
Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 3DS (and Wii U I suppose...haven't played it yet)

I've had more fun with Hyrule Warriors and haven't played Smash on the Wii U yet so I'm leaning more towards Hyrule Warriors as my game of the year. Like I said though, there are games from this year that I haven't had a chance to get my hands on and games not out yet that I really want to give a go. Maybe in a few years I'll have a better GotY-2014 list.

I think its a hard one to pick. Theres been a lot of games this year that I've enjoyed but none that I would say have made me go "Wow, this is game of the year shit!"

I think if there were a gun to my head, I'd possibly go with Titanfall. Thats largey down to rose-tinted glasses though, seeing as it was my first every XBone game and I still remember being stunned by the graphics up on the big tele.

It's tough for me to say because I don't want to just pick my favourites, I need to aim at games that are actually worthy of the title on multiple fronts. Which knocks out MarioKart 8, Hyrule Warriors, etc. I also don't really go in for the Xbox/Ps4/PC titles so I don't have firsthand experience of them. I do think that any game that ended up being a large disappointment from what was expected oughtta be discounted though (lookin at you, Watch_Dogs and Destiny!)

:Bayonetta 2 (obviously)
:Super Smash Bros Wii U
:Shovel Knight
:Five Nights at Freddy's

That's all I can pull to mind without a list in front of me. And I feel like all 4 of those could be deserving of the title, but all for different reasons. FNAF took the net by stortm and released a sequel in months and doesn't actually suck, plus impressive that it was made by one guy. Shovel Knight - fantastic example of great game design, great retro feel, improving on it. Smash Bros Wii U - because no other game can really boast such a large audience consistently and new ones are far between and exciting. Bayonetta 2 - Because it's damned masterpiece and should get ALL of the attention to be appreciated and emulated.

I also nominate This War of Mine for similar reasons (I own Spec Ops but I haven't played it yet but TWoM is so hauntingly beautiful and depressing at the same time.), even if it was an utter bastard to set up and make work.

Yeah. Unless you're a complete saint, everything you do that hurts others makes you feel like a complete monster.

Tough one. I nominate Dark Souls II. It's certainly the game I have gotten the most mileage out of this year, and probably the one I have enjoyed the most.

Shadow of Mordor

I haven't played Inquisition or Farcry 4 yet, but both look quite fantastic.

Easy one its Bayonetta 2 just a stunning game.

I personally am really liking Persona 4 Ultimax but I feel Bayonetta 2 is more deserving of the GOTY award. Yeah cant really think of any others I mean there have been plenty of games I have enjoyed but Bayo 2 takes it by a mile even over P4U which is one of my favourite games of the year.

It's not even out yet, but I know Smash U will be a real contender for GOTY. Smash on 3DS was good, but everything I know about the Wii U version makes it obvious which game is overall superior.

At this point, I'm only coming from a Nintendo centric view since the only current gen systems I have are Wii U and 3DS. No PS4, Xbox One, or PC.

Hyrule Warriors: I played it for more than a month straight. I am surprised how much I liked it. The obvious Zelda fan service would account for part of the love, but I actually liked the Warriors gameplay too. Getting A rankings in adventure mode made me feel the game is more than a button masher, you gotta really work hard on deciding how to play each mission in Adventure Mode.

Mario Kart U: The best Mario Kart hands down. I've always has a nostalgic soft spot for Mario Kart 64, but no more. Compared to MK U along with the 3DS and DS versions, the 64 version is quite mediocre when playing it today. I feel like Mario Kart is one of the only franchises that make it hard to look back on the older games in the series.

Pokemon ORAS: Again, not out till tomorrow, but I know it will be one of my favorite games of the year. I am a Poke-drone, I may as well admit it.

I just realized I haven't played many new games this year. Then again, I'm content enough not to care.

Bayonetta 2 is winning my GOTY, hands down.

Runner ups to Shovel Knight, Mario Kart 8, Persona 4 Ultimax, and Smash Bros WiiU (which is inevitably going to be good so what's the point of making it my GOTY... also cause it's not Bayonetta 2)

Also note that mostly WiiU games are my contenders for GOTY.
HaHaaaaaa... next gen is BS.

List of games I've played that were released in 2014:
- Walking Dead Season 2
- Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls
- Dragon Age: Inquisition
- Hearthstone
- Five Nights at Freddy's

Which among them are worthy of game of the year consideration? Hearthstone

Note: Five Nights at Freddy's gets the nod for being the only horror game ever made to successfully scare me. If I were doing Jimquisition style awards for great games of the year than it would be a worthy contender. As is, the experience is far too short and basic to really surpass other games on the list.

Note2: Inquisition 'could' get this spot. I've only put a couple hours in the PC version and what prevents me from getting into the game is the terrible UI choices. No auto-run, poorly managed search and pickup system, horrible inventory system, no auto-attack and confusing map. The game itself could be wonderful but so far I'm finding it hard to find the motivation to PLAY it.

None, really.

Personally I'm leaning towards Wolf Among Us because that's the only game I felt deserved it
Walking Dead season 2 was great but absolutely shit the bed in chapter 5
Tales From the Borderlands and Tell Tale's Game of Thrones game are both not out yet so I don't even know why any sort of Game of the Year discussion is even happening right now!

Dark Souls 2 was pretty good, but it was basically like a shitty Dark Souls
Borderlands the Pre Sequel is fun, but 2K Australia dun goofed hard with end game
I haven't played Dragon Age Inquisition yet... but it's by Bioware so I'm expecting it to give me cancer and aids.

I haven't played Tales of Xillia 2 yet, and TOX was in my top 5 last year despite being a step down from Graces and Vesperia.
I haven't played Shadow of Mordor but I also don't plan too
I haven't played Farcry 4 either.
or Bayonetta 2 Damn I didn't play a lot of games this year.

And I don't exactly think Sunset Overdrive deserves to be in the best list.

Out of the games I have played this year my list is

5 Borderlands: the Pre-sequel, Dark Souls 2, and Walking Dead season 2
4 None
3 None
2 Fibbage
1 The Wolf Among us

I've not played that many 2014 games this year, but of them the only two I'd really consider great were Bayonetta 2 and Wolfenstein: The New Order. Bayonetta 2 because while it may not be a bold new step forward for the series it does fix some issues with the first one, is visually stunning with tight gameplay and a dedication to being over the top and camp, and we need more of that these days. Wolfenstein was also pretty damn awesome that has a surprising amount of ideas for set pieces in addition to the stealth gameplay. It's meaty, challenging and has bewildering good writing for video games. I'm still genuinely shocked by it, but Bayonetta 2 did just edge it out because ah mah gawd Bayonetta 2 is so awesome.

Well, I've... No. No, that's not 2014.

Well, there was... No, too old.

Huh...

And Hotline Miami is at least two years old by now.

Nope, I've got nothing! Screw 2014, I don't have a next (current?) gen console - reason being that there just anything worth buying one for. Maybe a PS4 when Persona 5 gets released or a Wii U when Xenoblade Chromicles X hits the shelves, but as is, I don't think I've played a single game released in 2014 so far. I finally got around to playing the God of War Collections, bought Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Mortal Kombat, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Blur and Split/Second. Not bad, but nothing GOTY material, nothing 2014.

Oh! I bought and played Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD. Does that count? I mean, I wouldn't consider it game of the year, just wondering if it would be allowed to enter the competition.
