I haven't played the card game in years. Nobody to play it with, so I haven't had need to upgrade my deck or anything since I last bought one, so I've still only got the basic Marik Structure Deck (only got that one because Marik is my 2nd favourite villain and I don't think there's any Bakura decks...). Plus I never really learnt the really advanced stuff so all that stuff you just said went right over my head.

But I absolutely love the anime. Currently re-watching it actually; just about to start the Battle City story arc. It's kind of amazing how well it's held up over the years. Last time I watched it I was just a wee young-un, but it's still enjoyable. And not just because of nostalgia like I expected, it's genuinely a good show.

Still, I haven't seen beyond Series 4 of the regular show, so I have no knowledge of the sequel shows (going to watch them once I'm finished with all 5 season of the first show).

And yeah, people only seem to know Yu-Gi-Oh nowadays because of the Abridged Series. Which I will agree, is incredibly awesome.
Luckily my brother plays the game, so I keep up with it still. I haven't bought any new cards in forever either, but that Marik deck was really cool. My brother bought one, although we already had a lot of his major cards (I still don't have a Mirror Force though). Bakura's my favorite villain too, with the final story arc being my favorite. Although, the manga is way better than the anime, IMO, I still love the anime even if it can get really cheesy.

I've been sort of rewatching the original (Duel Monsters)as it reairs on US TV, so I'm at Season 4 right now. Which is kind of my least favorite season because everyone is out of character but the villains are cool. Once you get at least a little knowledge of the sequels/spin-offs, you have to check out the recent anniversary movie, Bonds Beyond Time. Such a fun nostalgia trip, both the dub and sub are pretty good, now I'm just waiting for the abridged version next month...

For me, it's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No one ever wants to watch with me. And it's so much fun!

Why will no one watch Buffy with me - not even my fiance?!
Buffy is great.

Yeah, I love the Marik deck. I like to call it my own personal "dick move" deck because it seems like every Gravekeeper monster and every spell or trap card's effect is devoted to just fucking your opponent around and sneakily lopping off chunks of their life points.

And actually, my brother was the one who got me into the card game. I still remember sitting on his bedroom floor playing with one half of his Kaiba starter deck. The matches basically just came down to whoever got the Blue Eyes White Dragon in their half. Then I got Yugi's starter deck and the proper matches begun.

Bakura's my favorite villain too, with the final story arc being my favorite. Although, the manga is way better than the anime, IMO, I still love the anime even if it can get really cheesy.
I've never seen the final story arc. I know it heavily involves Yami Bakura (at least I'm pretty sure it does) but I never saw past Series 4. I think it's Series 4 at least. The one with the Seal of Orichalcos.

And yeah, the anime can be really cheesy. All that "trust in friendship" stuff spouted every episode eventually starts to wear on your nerves.

I'm rewatching the anime right now. Currently on Yugi's duel with "The Quiet One" and his first encounter with an Egyptian God card in Battle City.

I'm definitely going to check that out. Also waiting to watch the Pyramid of Light anime movie too, which is up after Battle City is finished.

Yeah, especially seeing as using a Gravekeeper deck really messes with your opponent since they can't use their Graveyard once Necrovalley is out. I use a similar strategy by playing cards like Macro Cosmos that make it where cards normally sent to the graveyard are removed from the game.

My brother and I split a Kaiba deck too, although we divided up the cards evenly, I got Blue-Eyes, he got some of the better spells (Magic at the time, I guess...). Although I bought a Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon pack before that. I actually pulled the Exodia the Forbidden One head, pretty awesome for my first card, despite it being completely useless. Eventually we bought packs and traded with other people and stuff to fill out our decks.

Yeah, the story arc with the Seal of Orichalcos is Season 4. Friendship speaches are annoying, but I seem to watch a lot of Shonen anime and they all seem to have them. So, I guess Yu-Gi-Oh! isn't alone in this, lol.

Oh yeah, Strings, that guy with the piercing Marik was controlling. Love that one, it's the first appearance of one of my favorite cards, Buster Blader. The movie (Pyramid of Light) is extra corny, but I love it nonetheless. Actually got to see it theaters back in the day, and I have the DVD. Wish the other movie would get a US DVD release...

My main thing I love about it is that if you play the Gravekeeper monsters in the right way you not only end up with an incredibly powerful Gravekeeper's Visionary, which just keeps getting strong as they attack and as they destroy other Gravekeeper monsters, but the effects of other Gravekeeper monsters just totally screw them over. Effectively cripple their methods of attack then go on the offensive, it's fantastic.

My first real dissapointment with a deck I bought was when I got my hands on a Pegasus starter deck and found out that in the real game Toon World isn't nearly as awesome as it is in the anime. Still incredibly useful and I used it to pretty good effect throughout the period where the card game was immensely popular at my school (a period in which I played every day for about two years and rarely lost), but not as all-powerful as I had expected.

Still demolished people though, because as long as I had a back-up selection of magic and trap cards to stop them destroying Toon World, I was able to just walk through them. Sure I damaged myself, but what's 500 life points for my Blue Eyes Toon Dragon to inflict 3000 on them?

I just love the ending of it. That moment where Marik realises there's nothing he can do to stop Yugi's strategy. As much as I love Marik, that was just masterfully played.

Also, we are kind of clogging up this thread with ridiculously nerdy Yu-Gi-Oh talk. haha.

Totally, hmm, your making me want to go make a Gravekeeper deck for fun. Except I think my brother is using the Necrovalleys...

Oh yeah, I pulled a Toon World before the deck and then wanted to collect Toon monsters. I probably shouldn't have traded some of my cards to get them, considering the deck came out later. I enjoyed using a Toon deck though while they weren't common, people didn't see the direct damage coming. The new Earthbound Immortal cards attack directly and have a ton of attack too, my brother uses them and they're really annoying because they can't be attacked. Kind of like the Toons in the anime/manga.

Yeah, it's one of the few times someone wins in one of the ways besides Life Points, I remember Ishizu (Marik's sister) had a deck out strategy with Exchange of the Spirit (My brother used that strategy in real life to reset his stall deck a couple of times, I swear we had a duel that went an hour once because of it). Kind of ironic. Marik's deck is one of my favorites in the series though, creepy like Bakura's but based less on the undead and more on torture.

Yeah, I seem to have a habit of derailing threads with my nonsense, lol.

Really trashy fantasy movies. Beastmaster, Hawke the slayer, Princess of mars. I love them alone and in my loneliness I sharpen my blade and wait...
for my juicepops to arrive.

For me, it's Red Dwarf. I know all of TWO people who watch it, and none of us ever talk about it. ._.

Edit: ...just realized I'm wearing my Red Dwarf shirt too, bought by one of the aforementioned.
Well, add another to that list. I spent all of a weekend by myself watching the DVD set of Red Dwarf. And to make things even better, Dave the TV channel has confirmed that another series will broadcast next year.

Wow, I thought Back To Earth was the end. Excuse me while I have an uncontrollable fit of excitement generally left to children who have had too much sugar.

Thanks for the heads up. :)

I have said it once, I have said it a thousand, thousand, thousand times!

Battlezone
Heavy Gear
Shattered Steel

No one can see how I could possibly love these old games but none the less they are some of my all time favourites.

Every single RPG out there actually. They are sadly enough brainwashed from the zombie games and the generic shit-brown and gunmetal-grey shooters... They like Painkiller though :D

Nobody I talk to in real life is a fan of iCarly as much as me :(
what are the chances that you live in illinois? we could solve this problem together!

OP: not just iCarly for me, but i also seem to be the lone DC comics nerd. my two other comic nerd friends are marvel types, and they won't talk to me about comics because i "don't get what they're saying."

I'd never met anyone IRL, outside of my brother and sister (since my father introduced us to it), who had heard of the Monkey Island series. Though bizarrely, I moved across the country for college about 3 weeks ago, and the first thing me and my roommate bonded over was Monkey Island! What are the chances!

Gundam and it's many iterations, especially Gundam Wing and the movie Endless Waltz.

Also, Sanctuary, I know NO ONE that watches that show and every time I explain the plot I get a head tilt and blank looks.

Makes me very sad. :(

TOTALLY INB4 KODOMO NO JIKAN GAIZ!

Actually, no really. Kodomo no Jikan. Or Kojika, as it is known by its fans.

Wanna know why it's lonely? Well...just look it up. Actually, you don't even have to go off the escapist--head over to the review forum and use that nifty search box.

Kojika's my favorite manga, and... I can't really share it with anyone, IRL.

No one loves you like I do, baby.
Oh my god, less than 10 responses so far and already two other Majesty fans. Where did you people come from?

Anyway, that would have been my thing but it seems I'm not so alone as I thought.
Majesty and Dwarf Fortress? Do you think there's a club for people who just like these obscure games?

Because I want in. ;)

Oh hell man, i love that show. It's so funny everyone in it is insane, even after they die (with the exception of Small Paul)
